I recently coordinated the food for our company's annual summit. We have staff from across the country come to New Bern to work together in person to brainstorm, socialize, and engage in professional development. This year, there were 13 of us, sharing multiple meals together. The first thing I'd like to praise is the efforts of Sarah and Shaun. Coordinating the food and event with them was easy and exciting. This team put together a custom menu for us in their private dining area. The top-down experience was beyond reproach. The private event space is comfortable, soothing, and homey. It was like having dinner in a dear friend's home. The space is beautiful and understated. It was exactly what our team wanted. The food was inspired. We had a Greek-influenced menu served family-style. The food was unlike anything we typically have in New Bern. For me, there were two standout items: the roasted cauliflower and the baklava. Now, cauliflower is not my vegetable of choice - but I had three servings of this dish. It was incredible. The baklava - just, wow! The team at Firefly had to accommodate Tree Nut and Strawberry allergies, and still chose to prepare baklava for our dessert. Instead of traditional baklava, they served a Fig & Honey baklava. This was utter perfection. I truly hope it makes its way back onto their menu in the future. While we did not include a wine package with our seating, Shaun still put together some recommendations to pair with our food that he thought would work well. He gave the wine presentation twice (since we didn't all arrive at the same time), and it was wonderful. As someone who loves food & wine education, this was a great added bonus to our dinner. Smaller group catering and event spaces are hard to come by in New Bern. This was perfection. They'll be at the top of our list for future events. read more

I am so excited,because I found a really good restaurant in New Bern with excellent wines by the glass! The menu isn't the same old things either. Crepes anyone? My french crepe in a Dijon cream sauce was excellent! I'd doctor up the side salad a bit to make the meal a bit more filling if I made any suggestion. They even have gluten free options! The best thing about The Firefly Cafe is the owner and his extensive background in the wine industry. He really knows his stuff and I look forward to his nightly wine tastings! They also have parking so you don't have to go searching for the pleasure of parallel parking. Can't wait to introduce this place to all my friends. read more

Celebrating 1 year anniversary today. Food was great. We arrived as a baby shower was wrapping up. In celebrating the occasion, we took advantage of the specials, such as a $10 prosecco. We enjoyed a street corn chip dip, BLTA with a side, and a curry chicken salad. Love the opportunity to support those locally in town instead of a franchise. I gave a 4 star because we had to wait for the prosecco and the mak-n-cheese, while delicious, went home since it was delivered sub warm. But the owner and staff were very courteous and making sure everything was good. We will definitely be back. read more

I give this place a solid 4/5 overall, heavily carried by their incredible hospitality and welcoming atmosphere. Service: 5/5 The service here is unmatched. The owners are incredibly friendly, attentive, and great to converse with. They went out of their way to bring over coloring books and crayons for our kids, which was a huge help and made us feel so welcome. Decor & Ambiance: 4/5 The interior is spacious and very inviting. They have a great mix of standard dining tables under beautiful exposed wooden beams, plus some really cozy lounge seating areas with a cool swamp mural. It's a very relaxed, family-friendly environment. Food: 3/5 The food was a bit of a mixed bag, but we really appreciated the vegetarian variety. * The Good: The Firefly Beignets were the absolute highlight--they came out warm, puffy, covered in powdered sugar, and completely delicious! The Mac n' Cheese and the side salad were both decent and satisfying. * The Not-So-Good: The crepes were a bit of a letdown. They used canned olives that were overwhelmingly sour, which really threw off the flavor of the dish. The Verdict: Even though the food wasn't perfect across the board, the amazing owners, the family-friendly environment, and those delicious warm beignets make it a spot worth visiting. read more

Super fresh ingredients and variety. There is always something new and fresh and prices that do not break the bank. The owners are kind and patient folks especially in a community that is not local and always want everything like where they came from. Although you order at the register, service was great. I ordered the Parisian crepe (chicken, brie, sliced green apple and red onion with a Dijon cream sauce). The savory crepes include a small house salad but I upgraded my side ($2 up-charge) for the signature Firefly cream corn. Man but it *tasty*. With a bit of poblano in a paprika cream sauce, there was just the slightest heat. 10 out of 10, that one! My friend chose the side salad and said it was very fresh and perfectly dressed. She also enjoyed the beignets, which were hot and fresh. There are several other dessert options, as well as beer and wine. It's a large space, with cute little nooks. It would, as my friend said, be a great spot for a book club meeting. There's also ample outdoor seating. Look forward to trying more of the menu! read more

We had a lovely family breakfast at Firefly Cafe! They have plenty of space and the service staff was very kind. Not to mention, our meals were delicious! ordered fosters crepe($12), breakfast tacos($12) then beignets ($6) wrong order was brought to table (despite having table numbers for orders) beignets came out completely raw inside (i could stretch it like a cheese pull) when ordering the tacos i was asked if i wanted sour cream , that was an additional $1(unbeknownst to me) and it was forgotten when the food came out , as well the tacos are supposed to come with salsa(mine was missing) Also, my tacos had green spots/markings all over them....im HOPING it's a case of cross contamination from touching avocado and not from moldy taco shells. Either way, both shouldn't be happening 2nd try of beignets came out and they were super dense and not airy light or fluffy After this experience we probably wont be back, only saving grace is the staff was SUPER nice and friendly. read more

As for service unfortunately the day of our visit was very slow due to limited cooks and wait staff. We went for dinner. This place needs to decide if it's a restaurant or a bar. They need to train the waitstaff; the waitstaff spends more time talking and joking with their waitstaff friends than with the patrons. For a low mediocre meal for $78 I don't think I should get up and get my own water. Work on your food and your presentation please! read more

Amazing service and staff, maybe a little pricey other people say, but myself I think about how a breakfast meal at fast food places are $10+. My entire meal at the Firefly was $14 and had all fresh ingredients in which it was made from. This place has great vibes! The decor is warm and bright and the outdoor garden space just a couple blocks from Tryon Palace is amazing! They have excellent food offering fresh options that aren't fried. Except for those perfectly golden fried beignets and crispy Brussel sprouts - the best Brussels around! The staff are all super friendly and helpful and although it is counter order they are extremely attentive. Great sandwiches, salads and flatbreads during the week and the brunch on Sundays is so fun with $5 mimosas! The night we visited, they informed us that none of the sandwiches on the menu were available. Odd, but okay. Waited 20 minutes for the drinks to be ready and over 45 minutes for some flatbread and salads. They could use more non alcoholic beverage options also. The staff was preoccupied with each other the couple of times we had to go back to the counter to ask for a few things. I hope they are able to regroup, get some wait staff training and work on their menu and food ordering. They have a nice location that could be maximized for events and such, but it feels a little clunky from a staff and organizational standpoint. read more

After a few hiccups that every new business experiences, Firefly Café has found its groove. Food, service and the experience is amazing. You order at the counter and they take it from there. The staff didn't handle themselves in a professional manner, becoming impatient and rude when asked for assistance tableside. For a business that has only been open for two months, wow! Food is all made from scratch and made to order with amazing specials daily. Need to keep in mind that with everything being made to order some things will take time. They have everything from Mediterranean fare, sandwiches, flatbreads, crepes (savory and sweet) and even dinner options, with a wine bar and beers on tap, so it fills the bill for most people. Today I ordered the Sweet Italian Flatbread and the Banana Chocolate Bread pudding for dessert, and they were both so flavorful, fresh and surprisingly light. The staff is receptive, welcoming and generally have a good vibe and are happy to see you. This is not my only trip to the Firefly cafe that's for sure!! Highly recommend. read more

Also I ordered food for my kids and the person taking our order repeated it back to us and it was right and then we didn't get our kids food they said it was never rang in. Today was our first time there, and please understand that we will go back at some point. My wife's Mediterranean sandwich was very good. My sandwich was not. Tip: if you're going to make cream cheese sandwich with one slice of cucumber and one slice of tomato and a lot of cream cheese, don't call it a "tomato salad sandwich" on the menu. Got my hopes up for something much different from what I got. I couldn't eat more than two bites of it. I'll try something else next time, but give them a long time to get up and running. read more
