Went for lunch, sat at the bar. (Recommend) Started with beers on tap, then went one order at a time of: deviled eggs, cacio e pepe, and then the mushroom goat cheese pizza. Bartender was amazing! $102 plus $38 tip. Forgot to snap a pic of the pizza, but the fig balsamic glaze is from the Olive Oil store two or three doors down! Love that!

Bestie & I specifically came to New Bern to geocache & I had 2 places in mind for lunch and luckily for us, the other spot was closed. I say luckily because the brisket burger we both had has to be one of the best tasting, and juicy, burgers I've ever had. The truffle fries arrived hot and delectable. What makes this burger special is I do not care for any pink in my burger and most folks will testify it drains all the flavor and juices out of the burger. That was NOT the case here. I requested the 257 sauce be OTS & replaced with mayo. Julie asked if it would be ok if the mayo came out in a ramekin, which I said would be fine. Most times a server won't take that extra time to ask that & Julie got extra points for that. Prior to our burgers I ordered the ham & herb focaccia & it arrived hot, crispy on the outside but soft and pillowy, like lying on an edible down comforter. The vinaigrette that accompanied the bread was a delightful dip, sweet & tart at the same time. To finish our lunch off we had bread pudding. Y'all, if you're ever on the fence about having it after a full meal, get it. The bread was so light it was unexpected. I made sure to leave room for dessert & because the bread was so light, I ate almost my entire half. The vive here was low key but classy. We were in the side dining room with only a few other diners & it was like being in your own living room. Julie was one of the best servers ever. Attentive but not hovering. Always there to refill our waters without asking, personable and friendly but respectful and as she handed my card back she pronounced my last name correctly. She gets extra points for that as it doesn't happen often. All in all, I would come back to New Bern just to dine here. I told my husband it was so good I wanted to return soon for dinner with him or maybe brunch so we can try the breakfast pizza. Thank you Julie, chefs, bussers and side servers. We had a great time!!

Service, food and ambiance was fabulous! The Strawberry cake was a must try and is everything you've read about. The Red Velvet crème brûlée was amazing too!

This may not be the best photo, but it is the BEST burger. Recommended by the bartenders, who are all super nice. This is the brisket burger. Get it. We visited New Bern and honestly went here three times!

The food, service, ambiance ....everything here is on point. We didn't have a reservation but we're warmly welcomed by the hosts who also made a recommendation to save room for their famous strawberry cake and pecan pie cheesecake. We LOVE good food and typically never leave room for dessert but decided to break tradition tonight. And boy are we thankful we did. We shared the small plate pumpkin + endive salad which was a great combination of flavors. Next we shared a Bianco pizza. I've had a lot of brick oven pizzas in my time and this was definitely in the top two if not the top one. The crust was crisp and light. The balance of flavors was amazing. Get one, you won't regret it. Finally, the dessert came. We were pretty full from dinner but ordered both. We're so thankful we broke tradition tonight. The strawberry cake is moist, cold, and full of delicious strawberry fruit flavor. The cheesecake was dense with a healthy helping of pecans. The crust was epic. I don't know what was in it...but I think angels made it.

Oysters, French 75 & the amazing Pomme Frites
    Mel C.

Space feels like an event hall as soon as you walk in. Dinner feel is romantic and modern with exposed brick and tall ceiling' - perfect lighting. Restrooms were clean and up kept. The Pomme Frites were a must! So glad we ordered them - most restaurants put a dusting of herbs and parm on the top, but not these. The flavor was layered up until the last French fry was completed. Delicious! Writing this review I want to go back and order them again! Did not even need a dipping sauce, which we asked for and never used. We also ordered the jambalaya which was recently added back on the menu. Kept a critical eater extremely happy with full of flavor. Also ordered raw oysters with a vinaigrette topping. Not my favorite. A little spicy and had a crunch- I also like to add my own flavors on oysters. They had another oyster option with crème fraiche and caviar which I should have ordered. Ordered a French 75 which was on point. Cocktail list looked carefully curated. TV at the bar was extremely high, I would lower that a shelf or two. All and all great experience and I would recommend. Service was also great! I would go back.

Pimento cheese and homemade pork rinds

This is a cool spot in downtown New Bern. We arrived around 3pm on a Friday and they had their "small menu" in between lunch and dinner. They have a fully stocked bar and their bartenders are definitely mixologists, not just drink slingers. Every drink they made was beautifully presented with exceptional detail. My husband had the "New Old Fashioned" and he said it was the best Old Fashioned he's ever had. Everyone was ordering the pimento cheese with homemade pork rinds so we tried them. They came out hot and crackling and sprinkled with a delicious seasoning. The pimento cheese was warm and creamy and delicious. This is a great date night type of location.

Would love to try it with my wife and family. We have a 12, 8 & 3 y/o however and wondering if bringing them would be frowned upon or if we should keep this as more of a date night just the two of us? T.I.a

My first time was with both of my daughters (13&15. It's more oriented towards date night atmosphere but my kids liked it. Food was great and service was impeccable. My wife and I will return for date night the next time.

We had dinner there again a couple weeks ago and while he didn't get the ribeye he ordered, the ribeye he got was delicious. I got the Chinese-style ribs & slaw special. I almost ordered the duck special but I can make good duck at home. My ribs are hopeless. The server described these ribs as a small plate but I got 9 tasty ribs and the slaw was the perfect acidity to cut the sweet, heavy richness of the ribs. I generally don't care for 5 spice powder; it's usually too cinnamon or too cloves forward but these were perfect. Also, if you've never tried their South African Pudding, do yourself a favor and order it next time. It's like a cold bread pudding a bed of caramel and topped with whipped cream (but last night, it seemed like marshmallow cream). Never a disappointment and glad to have a great steak option in New Bern.

Disappointing Birthday Experience…read more We chose The Chelsea in New Bern to celebrate my wife's birthday. We've been here once before and had no issues, which is why this experience was so frustrating. This visit was below average. The food overall was overly salty, but the biggest issue came when we were packing our food to go. As my wife was about to box up her chicken bruschetta, we noticed a hair stuck between the chicken breasts. We immediately informed the waitress. Instead of allowing us to document the issue, she quickly took the plate away. No replacement entrée was offered. The manager came over and offered a dessert, but since it was my wife's birthday, we already had cake waiting at home. A replacement meal or removal of the entrée from the bill would have made more sense. For a restaurant that presents itself as upscale, the way this was handled was disappointing; especially on a special occasion. Cleanliness and proper resolution matter, and unfortunately this experience missed the mark.

This was our first visit, so we were excited to get a water view when seated at our table - it was a bit too blustery to sit outside overlooking the river and massive boats parked alongside the waterfront restaurant. Our server, Brooke, guided us through everything from the cocktail menu to the entrees, effortlessly - she made solid suggestions from the get-go and was a delight to have helping us. Our two-top started off with a classic Persimmons Old Fashioned ($18) cocktail and a pear vodka, habanero and cucumber lime drink called the Bon Voyage ($14). We chose to split the Roasted Beet Salad ($13) as our appetizer and it was certainly large enough for two to share. The spring mix was topped with delicious red and golden beets, flecks of goat cheese and pistachios, as well as a thick fig balsamic. The salad could have easily been a meal topped with an optional protein. The entree menu features most of the coastal classics, including Fish Tacos ($16), a couple of massive burgers and some heavier offerings like Seafood Pasta ($32) and a huge Fried Seafood Platter ($30) We opted for the Tequila Salmon ($32), served over rice pilaf with green beans and a spicy margarita sauce. I ordered the Unicorn Fish ($30), mostly out of curiosity and upon Brooke's suggestion. The latter was an amazingly flakey fish with the taste and texture of grouper. Topped with honey pecans and served over a lemon scallop risotto with asparagus and spinach - certainly the most nicely prepared fish I've had in a very long time. We wrapped up the meal with a couple more cocktails and enjoyed the late afternoon view - the Wake Breaker ($18) drinks feature reposado, bailey's chocolate and a touch of habanero - the perfect end to an amazing meal.

Our server Ridley, came to the table promptly, answered our questions and took our orders. Our drinks came quickly and were always full. The food arrived soon after our orders were placed. The presentation of our meals was terrific. Three diners in our party ordered the Fish Tacos and one got the Fish and Chips. It would be an understatement to say the servings were seriously generous. The fish & chips came 3 large fried fish filets and a heaping of seasoned fries. The taco orders each had 3 full vs mini sized soft tacos overflowing with fish filets...the fish was legit spilling out over both ends of the tacos! The fish was lightly battered, nicely seasoned and fried to perfection. The quantity of the food was so generous, only one of us could finish our meal!! On our way out, we stopped and spoke with the manager Kelsey. She is the spirit behind the "the new and improved" Persimmon's ethos. She took no credit for the changes or improvements and instead placed our exemplary experience squarely at the feet of her employees! It's obvious she's a wonderful, caring leader of the Persimmon's team. Cheers to Kelsey, Ridley and the Persimmon's crew!
