A nearby house was sketchy, but guess the vicinity seemed okay for a painter to be painting a building right outside in front of the bakery. Indoor furniture was mismatched, random things put together. I liked the oversized chess games and the piano. Macchiato was good and did the job of waking me up! Tried fruit pastries, I think fruit tart, and Zeppole di San Giuseppe. The best one out of all of them were the fruit pastries, which were not the best I've ever had, but good enough. The pastry dough itself wasn't buttery, just a plain dough. The fruit filling in the fruit pastry was sweet and good. The fruit tart and Zeppole were lacking, not that good. They looked better than they tasted. The fruit tart was slightly better tasting than the Zeppole. The cream in the Zeppole was bland, not sweet. I got a recommendation from someone to try this place a while back and after much ado I finally checked it out on a Sunday. Needless to say, it was quite underwhelming. What a treat! My son and I stopped in on a Thursday morning. It was quiet, they had some great "coffee shop" music playing that my son loved dancing too, and their staff was super kind, warm and friendly. I got a dirty chai and several macaroons. Came in for a cup of coffee at around 2pm and was surprised by how cute this cafe is. I tried the hazelnut macaroon (sold out of most the flavors this late) and Austrian cookie - both were perfect and delicious! And a cheese cake to go ;-) Don't sleep on this spot. read more

The owner at this bakery was incredibly accommodating and offered to make a plain vanilla cheesecake for me. I have to say, it was amazing! Hands down the best cheesecake I've had in New Bern, and it's as close as I've found to the ones I get in New York. I will definitely be going back! And the pastry/dessert case had amazing looking treats so it was hard to decide. Had the pistachio dar chocolate ganache tart and the guys both had the lemon (citron) tart. Crusts on all was not too sweet and crumbled some like a shortbread cookie. The filling was as yummy. Two young guys were behind counter and very friendly, pleasant and made great coffees. The shop is cute inside and the pastries are very impressive looking. We stopped in last month for the first time and had a few questions about the pastries in the cases (not all of the pastries were labeled). Unfortunately, the gentleman working that day didn't seem to know much about what was offered. I'm not confident that he gave the correct descriptions-he checked a list behind the counter but the descriptions didn't seem to match what was in the case.
