Better at serving attitude than beer. Decided to stop in with my parents and family dog but unfortunately, our visit was cut short by a very rude encounter with the bartender. After she served our beers she abruptly informed us that our well-behaved family dog wasn't allowed. Even though she has been welcome on our previous visits, their yelp page clearly states "dogs allowed" and there was no signage or notice before being served. Instead of handling the situation with any professionalism, she told us we had to leave, or sit outside. As if it wasn't bad enough that it was almost 100 degrees outside... the outdoor area was filthy! We completely understand if pets aren't allowed, but there's a respectful way to communicate that. Making customers feel completely unwelcome is great hospitality! We won't be returning. read more

We have always visited Mother Earth with our dog and had no problems. This week we were served beers and asked to leave with our dog or go outside to their Nasty, dirty patio area in 98 degree temperatures. No thank you we'll find other breweries to visit with our family, friends and Dog! By the way check your Yelp page Mother Earth as it clearly states that in fact you do allow dogs. Shame on you! Really nice facility! Plenty of comfy booths to sit at, or high tops, bar stools, and outside during the warmer days. Lots of beers to choose from, but IPAs and Silent Night seem to be the specialty. Love it, love it, love it. They've done so much for the local community AND have some of my favorite beers. Now they've expanded to gins and other spirits. Employees are quick to take your order and not leave you standing at the end of the bar waiting awkwardly. We often time go out of our way to stop by MEB. Well worth the trip. read more

I really enjoyed the Alpenglow, a hazy ipa. Hubby had the Endless Kolsh which was pretty basic. No food available so we grabbed pizza and brought it in. We were surprised there wasn't really many people there on a Friday night. I would have loved to try a flight but bartender seemed busy with just locals inside. Just one guy working so this must be the norm. Bartender was friendly when we were served. They also had some pretty good live music! They also have a whole merch section with very reasonable prices. For a small town like Kinston, this is a great brewery. The taproom has a lot of seating inside. Large bar area, also with other seating. The beer menu is large and has a hell of a variety. I enjoyed bourbon barrel stout. If you have someone who is not into beer, then they do have some wine by the glass. No table service, at least not when I was there. You have to go to the bar and get your drink. No food here but I did notice some customers getting food delivered while they enjoyed their drinks. I'm not going to claim this place is kid friendly, but there were families with kids here. It is a casual atmosphere. If you love beer and live or traveling to Kinston, then I would highly recommend. read more

Whenever we go to Mother Earth we always bring our dog. Today we walked in, started to sit down and we were immediately told that dogs are no longer allowed inside and we must sit outside on the patio. Really, it is North Carolina in the summer, in the 90's and no shade. They could at least have the decency to post it on their Facebook page or website so we would have known before we traveled up from New Bern. I double checked afterwards and both still say pet friendly and there were no recent posts about the change. Needless to say, we left immediately and will not return again. Hope the rule change (most likely to satisfy one grumpy customer) is worth the loss of business. It seems others are just as disappointed. read more

This was a great find after eating at a local restaurant. You can either sit at the bar or sit at a table and you can bring in your own food. There is an outdoor sitting area that is really nice, it's like a patio with couch and chair seating. They have a large variety of beer, everything from sours to stouts to IPA. They will not fill your growler but you can purchase theirs and bring it back for a refill at a discount. I believe they had some cans for sale in another room but I did not see what they had available. Staff was friendly and the prices were pretty standard. read more

What a nifty place! High ceilings, a huge wraparound bar, antique wood floors, and a friendly bartender welcomed us to the vast downtown brewery. Our witbier and pineapple ale were so refreshing! We enjoyed them on the back patio where the kids played with blocks and games thoughtfully provided by Mother Earth. The only quibble was that there were no juices or non-alcoholic drinks for kids that day other than water. We will absolutely be back should our travels bring us to Kinston again, and we'll keep an eye out for Mother Earth when shopping for brews! read more

Well, if you're like me, you already made your reservation at Chef and the Farmer well before you come to Kinston, then the inevitable question becomes, "What else do you do in Kinston?" Come here is the short answer. It's a short block from Chef, and en route is The Boiler Room, the more casual venture that Vivian Howard and her husband Ben Knight opened that happens to serve beers from Mother Earth Brewing. That's frankly where Jamie W. and I tasted their beers, and they were perfect on a balmy Eastern North Carolina afternoon. There to wet my whistle, I had the $5 Weeping Willow Wit. I'm perplexed by the negative reviews. There were four of us, and we loved the tap room, the tour, the outside area, and the beer. The bartender was not that great; he wasn't rude but wasn't friendly either and couldn't answer some basic questions about their beer. Other than that, we spent a few hours here and had a great time. It's a huge space with a large bar area that is stylish, bar top tables along the walls, leather couches and seats along the opposite wall (which were so comfortable). The building is also great - vintage! Tired of the scene inside? Go outside to their back patio and sit in their comfortable seating out there, or play one of their many yard games they have out there. Side note: their corn hole boards need to be repainted, and the bean bags need to be replaced as we barely found enough to play the game. The tour was informative, interesting, and thorough. The place is spotless and they were cleaning the entire time we were in there. The thing we thought was odd, is they offer no samples of the beer. We've been on numerous brewery tours, and there are always samples. The random old school slide inside the brewery is very fun, so plan on taking a moment to slide down! The gift shop is perfect. Not too much, not too little, and not over-priced. Stay at Mother Earth Lodge while you're there so you can easily walk to and from the brewery. read more

Was driving home from a long weekend on the coast and thought we'd swing by Mother Earth and get some stuff to go. We ordered ahead online and called when we got there to pick it up. They were unfortunately out of one of the beers we had ordered online the day before but were able to get us something different instead. Mother Earth holds a special place in my heart. It's always the first and last stop on a trip to The Chef and The farmer. Normally drinks inside before dinner l and then drinks and cigars after out on the patio after dinner. Their beers are wonderful and tours of the brewery and distillery are entertaining. Ambiance inside and out is great. There is ample seating outside, but inside can be a little limited other than the bar, especially on the weekends. Bartenders are always friendly and helpful. They have a great knowledge of their beers and always offer great suggestions. Their kolch is probably one of my favorites as it's an easy beer to drink. read more

I will begin this review by saying I haven't been to Mother Earth since I left North Carolina 4 years ago. However, Mother Earth is the standard to which I hold every single brewery I have been to since then, and that is a number that is probably a bit too high... What drew me in was the excitement of a brewery that was as environmentally friendly and was the next city over as I lived in Goldsboro. I was honestly a little intimidated the first time I walked in, it seemed very proper. For a small town in North Carolina, it just didn't seem to fit. But alas, I sat down and had a beer and the rest was history. The more I visited the more I fell in the love with their amazing beer and the great people that worked there. Although my favorite beer in the entire world Old Neighborhood is no longer being brewed (what a shame for those who missed it) they still have a line-up that boasts some of the most flavorful and sometimes incredibly complex and delicious beers I have ever had. I have travelled the nation and the world and nothing will ever come close to competing with their beer and business. Mother Earth is one of the great things about Kinston. From the people that work there to the beer they produce and the love for their town, I couldn't implore you anymore to visit Mother Earth. Got a 6 of the long weekend a couple years ago from a gas station in Kinston on the way home from the beach and I finally made it to their brewery today I consider myself a very avid craft beer drinker so I was super excited. The brewery is super nice and roomy. Most comfy bar I have ever sat at. The dude working the bar wasnt rude but he wasn't exactly approachable. My gf and I got 2 flights of beer to try the majority of what they have. my gf liked the whiskey sour but I honestly wasn't a fan of any of their IPAs that I had. It could have been my taste buds but I thought they all tasted the same and were kinda bland. They have one that they consider" juicy" and it was anything but. Maybe im just spoiled by the top notch craft breweries here in Richmond because it just wasn't any to write home about. read more

I love Mother Earth brews! I love being able to visit Chef and the Farmer or Boiler Room and then come here. The TShirts are really cool. The samplers are a lot of Fun! Love all that! What I am not as crazy about... The decor doesn't really match the vibe. The staff isn't super friendly. I've been to other breweries that seem to still come across small, even after they are big. They welcome you and get passionate about their beer, like they are letting you in on a secret.... Congrats you've found the best micro brew in the US. That's just not the style of Mother Earth. No big deal, it's still great beer and the only place of its kind in Kinston, but I didn't give 5 stars for that. It's good beer and a good time. Just not a Wow experience. read more

Overall: Quality beers and spirits. Cool downtown building with character and an informative tour. The tasting room is a little lame. They were going for a modern look with a lot of seating, which I guess works for a crowd. However, it just comes off as a little empty, and it seems to be missing something. Okay, a whole lot of something. They do have a decent outside area on the back with cushioned seats, ladder ball, corn hole, and space heaters. It's too bad that on a chilly day, the space heaters were not working as the bartender said the propane tanks were empty. Come on, guys. That's an easy fix. The bartender was attentive and gave my wife a new drink when she didn't like the first. They do have wine in the tasting room for those who don't drink beer, but it's from Yadkin Valley. In other words, don't order it. I was disappointed that they didn't offer their spirits in the tasting room since I really dig their gin. If you are into collecting things, check out their merchandise. They have nice, soft shirts with novel designs. Cool for a one-time experience, but I wouldn't make the trip more than once just for the physical location. Buying their beers and drinking them will suffice. read more

We came here to kill sometime before dinner at CATF. I'm admittedly not a big beer person so my review is more about space and service. Our server was not very friendly when we arrived. She seemed much more interested in chatting with her regulars and looked at us outsiders with a combination of disdain and annoyance. She kind of warmed up to us over our stay at the bar (maybe an hour) but it was a little bit "too little too late". I had a flight so I could try a few different beers. It was on the pricey side but the beers were pretty good. The space is interesting. It has a surprising amount of neon for a Southern brewery in a small town Carolina historic store front. The outside beer garden looked like it had potential but no one was out there during our visit. Last but not least, there is a gift shop next door.
