This place is pretty cool. Laid back and casual. Able to do 6 to 8 people parties easily. We got burgers and alacart nigiri sushi. Her burger was really good and the fries were great. I thought tallow for sure. Having experienced sushi in Japan I can honestly say this sushi is correct. The rice was perfect taste and size with wasabi applied under the fish. Went back home for the weekend and couldn't wait to checkout one of the downtown restaurants. When we arrived it wasn't too busy (lunchtime) so we were seated quickly. Loved that we didn't need a reservation and there wasn't a long wait (the things we are accustomed to in the DMV). Our server greeted us and took our drink and appetizer orders. It was an unseasonably hot day so we ordered a strawberry margarita and white sangria. For appetizers, we got tempura brussels sprouts and bulgogi fries. The drinks and food were fresh and delicious. We were pleasantly surprised by the serving sizes. My daughter (who is extremely picky) said the margarita was one of the best she'd had. It was her first time trying bulgogi so I was a little nervous, but she absolutely loved it. I enjoyed the brussels sprouts. Appreciated the great service and attention. We went as a big party for a special occasion and all of our dining selections and drinks were "top-shelf!" If seated at the first group table as you enter: please be careful not to spill your drink due to the divot in the wooden table - it got my drink - however waitstaff was so kind and considerate and she brought me a replacement at no charge - BTW - they warned me about the anomalie when we were first seated. This was a pleasant little spot we found by accident... we were actually heading over to another place that ended up being closed. As we approached the alley way to the entrance, the thought crossed my mind that we should have a secret knock or password to enter. I loved the eclectic menu and decided to order the bugolgi fries. The waitresses ignored my table for 30 minutes.... I had 2 young children with me and we sat there waiting for 30 minutes before we decided to leave. They looked right at me multiple times and proceeded to take the order over the people who came in 15 minutes after us. Worst service I have ever experience in my life. read more

We got the place our waitress was terrible she had no clue what the hell she was doing from the start. We didn't get everything we ordered and our order was wron. Then when it came time for tge checks she had them all messed up it took her three trines to finally sorta get it right. Visited this spot for the first time last week and we were blown away! Started with the blackened ahi tuna (YUM!) as an app, then ordered the crack chicken & rice and the B-52 sushi roll (spicy) and both were incredible. Cool environment, great music. I eat here somewhat regularly but recently the service (dine in and takeout) has just really let me down. Tonight I placed a takeout order that was supposed to be ready at 6:15. I did not leave with my order until a few after 7. The food is good, but if kinston had more options I would come here drastically less due to the poor service. read more

Jay's is a fantastic addition to Kinston's dining offerings. The rice bowls are a good value and are very filling. We have had some mixed service experiences, but mostly positive! The sushi is also great. I only wish they'd bring in more menu items from the Goldsboro location. read more

Honey Stop the Car!! We are in Kinston and this food at Jay's 108 is a strong 5 star! From the moment we walked in, service has been impeccable and the food matches it! Pork belly nachos was chefs kiss to the point it inspired me to do a pork belly and fried rice. Delicious! Thank me later! The crack chicken was very good alongside with the salad, fried egg and fried rice! The pulled pork sandwich was amazing with the brioche bun! I would only say to add coleslaw but overall, delicious. We ate dinner here on a Wednesday evening. No wait for a table for two. Our waitress was informative and knew the menu well. It looks a lot like the broiler room, Its previous owner/occupier. So many choices! You can choose from sushi, burgers and fries, salads, sandwiches, teriyaki, and Korean rice plates for dinner. Their drink selection includes everything from domestic beers to signature cocktails. We were offered dessert but after the generous portion we did not even look at the dessert menu. The presentation of the plates were amazing, staff accommodated my seating preference with politeness. We went to Jay's for our favorite Asian dish - Bulgogi. Well - BE WARNED! Their Bulgogi has just two items - Bulgogi meat and rice. Nothing else! No pickled onions, Kimchi, cucumbers, carrots - ZERO other options. And $16 for just the meat and rice! Disappointing! read more

So- a little background: my son is on the spectrum. One of the things that makes him unique and beautiful is a sensitivity to tastes. He is very limited in what he will eat, and he's not likely to try new things. We stopped at Jay's 108 on the way back from our first weekend at Camp Seagull. He's eaten Just thing today- not chocolate ice cream, not candy. Just a cup of milk. He commented that it smells great in here (man he hates the way our house smells!) Ben ordered off menu- just some grilled chicken and he tore right into it. There used to be only ONE restaurant I can take him to - but as of today there are two. He loved his chicken. Kylee was happy to ask the cook to go off menu a little and make a dad happy. My food was awesome too. I had a simple cheeseburger with onion rings and it was delicious. I destroyed it. Truly fantastic food. The interior of this place is warm and inviting- very casual. They have great outside seating as well. Shaded and breezy. This place has a great vibe. It's entry is in an alleyway with cute lights. Inside it has a cool bar area and big seating area. The drinks were festive and good! They are mean here. Hot food comes out lukewarm and sometimes under cooked. The sweet tea is often sour. The french fries are soggy. Definitely a good place for sushi in Kinston, NC. A new place to dine at after Boiler Room closed. I had a Bulgogi rice bowl and it was delicious! I do have to return again to try their cocktails and burgers. I'm sure it won't disappoint. I can't say the decor and interior design is unique but it is clean. We enjoyed our dinner at Jay's 108. The list of rolls was very extensive. We prefer fish to cooked or crab stick rolls. The Playboy roll was a very good choice. We had a number of Nigori items that filled out our dinner. Our wait person had a large table and several other tables and she was very apologetic about our wait for some items. We stumbled upon this spot looking for a quick bite on the way back to Raleigh when most others were closed on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Since we had our dog with us we were delighted to find outdoor seating on the (very windy) alley. Service and speed were fantastic and our menu selections tasty and well-priced. Love this place! Located where the Boiler Room in Downtown Kinston used to be. The surf and turf platter was excellent - huge amount of perfect bulgogi easily feeds two. We also had the bulgogi fries and duck gyoza. My mom enjoyed her appletini and I LOVED my orange crush martini. We also got the bulgogi burger. The food, service and atmosphere are all worth the trip! We live in New Bern and found this restaurant by accident when we had to go to Kinston to pick something up. First before we sat down we had to wait with the server while the other servers were discussing something. Next my friend and I ordered kids chicken bowls and on the menu it said kids meals come with a drink and your choice of fried rice, veggies, or fries so we got fried rice and my friend also asked for mushrooms in it. She said she could only do mushrooms on the side and that was it. We got the mushrooms and they were cold and raw and when the bill came we were charged extra for the rice. I proceeded to ask about it because it was supposed to be included and she said "yeah rice is an up charge our menu is out of date" we got no apology and the charge was not dismissed even though it was their mistake the menus weren't up to date.
