But hands down the sashimi, poke bowl, and chicken/black bean/corn chowder that I had tonight was so good that it would make me move to this town. Service is good thea can get fairly busy on game days and weekends but even so still good service and waitstaff are good at communicating and getting correct orders. It's a sports bar with a full Asian infused drink menu with Asian American cuisine usually 80s rock / a mix playing in background with more family oriented seating on the rooms to either side of the sushi and drink bars. Good location, and I liked the atmosphere. However, the food was lacking. The teriyaki chicken was overcooked and dry. The hot chicken lunch special tasted like chicken breast and Sriracha. The hot chicken sandwich was mediocre and not spicy. The tuna roll was pretty good. I think it's a bit ridiculous to pay $13 for a sandwich and then have to pay $5 for fries and $3 for a soda. Word of warning up front: I did not have the sushi. I'm not a sushi fan, so I have no idea how good their sushi is. Their bulgogi beef though is phenomenal! This is a place that I typically would not have tried. However, I went their for a work event. I was poised to order a fairly traditional burger. But the waitress sold me on the bulgogi beef burger. And, boy was it fantastic. We started with a bulgogi plate of fries. It was cheese, jalepenos, sour cream, onions and the bulgogi beef. It was excellent. Somehow, the fries were still crisp, despite being drenched in toppings. Next is the burger. It was basically bulgogi beef (Korean barbecue with a teriyaki flavor) in a patty form. It was on an amazing bun and came with a sunny side up egg on top. I loved every bite! The only down side was the house salad. The ranch was from a bottle. And it was not that impressive. I would recommend a different side if you go. This place won't be for everyone. Notably, people who don't like a little spice may not enjoy it. Also, their aren't a lot of "safe" menu items. My kids would not have enjoyed it. However, if you're a little more adventurous, you won't be disappointed. Oh, by the way, they have a well-stocked bat with plenty of local beers on tap. read more

My favorite restaurant in town, hands down! On Friday nights there is live acoustic music by local musicians. The ambiance is hip and the service is generally pretty awesome. The sushi and burgers are great! My only complaint is that it is expensive... You can go to Sumo (owned by the same company) and get the same roll for a couple of dollars cheaper. Sounds like a lot and something typically fails when you try this much but can't say it did. They are open to customizing your dish due to allergies or preferences and everything is made fresh but not slow. For seating there is a restaurant side, sushi bar and sports bar side - so you don't have to be on the loud side what a great concept! Service was friendly and informative. Ever employee who walked by our table asked if they could take a plate away or if we needed something - team work and high customer service both rare these days. At first I was really frightened by the title of the restaurant. Sushi and burgers? Hmm... I ordered the pick two lunch special from the overwhelming menu. (Lots and lots of choices) Bulgogi (sp) and Alaska roll. Alaska roll was pretty good. The bulgogi wrap was fries and had great flavor but way too heavy for lunch. I really liked the ambiance of Jays. Whoever renovated it spent a lot of money. I like the outdoor seating too. It's limited so get there early to grab your spot. I was also impressed by the bathrooms. Don't laugh. I turned the corner and expected a smelly single toilet but it was renovated along with the rest of the restaurant. Instead of tile the used what seemed to be barn wood. Nice touch. Poor downtown Goldsboro. The city did a good job rejuvenating downtown but the Local restaurants and coffee shops are closing for some reason. I hope Jay's makes it! read more

I was at home visiting from Atlanta and decided to try this place out, my friend and I. The sushi was pretty good but the service was not up to standard. We found a PIECE OF HAIR in the side of ranch we asked for. The waitress very nicely apologized. We didn't make a big deal about it but we both agreed that a manager would normally come to speak to customers on behalf of the business when something like that happens. She replaced the side of ranch but that was it. Based on the color of the hair, It was not at all possible that the hair could've belonged to either of us. The restrooms were very clean.
