Geoffrey and the rest of the staff are nothing short of amazing and accommodating. Can't recommend them enough. We came in and sat at the bar and were blown away with the service and quality of food.

Fantastic sushi and ramen. The Tonkatsu pork ramen was a warm bowl of deliciousness with a creamy broth. Perfect for a chilly night. The spicy tuna roll was the best one I've ever had. Normally that's a pretty average roll but this one had so much flavor and it was BIG. Wife got the sassy role and it was amazing too, topped with fresh tuna. This place is authentic, quaint, and really tasty. The specialty rolls are pricey but they are bigger than a lot of rolls I usually get.

Always spectacular! Exceptional service and the food is simply incredible. Top 5 sushi places I've ever been to anywhere

First time here. We enjoyed the service and cleanliness so much, we give 4 stars. Decent enough sushi/rolls/ Crab Rangoon. We would recommend since that's hard to find in this part of NC. The fish was fresh, and the portion size big, but more rice than fish. Not authentically Japanese sushi rice either, too hard. Super overpriced (more than Philly area), but the presentations were beautiful.

Made a last minute date for myself in this wonderful restaurant. I was greeted the moment I walked in and sat down immediately. The restaurant was very clean. I chose to sit at the sushi bar. The waiting staff were all so kind and attentive, spreading that southern charm and hospitality! I sampled the pineapple sake, absolutely delicious and totally recommend!! I ordered the Shoyu Ramen with Chicken Chashu and a Spicy Tuna Roll. The ramen was delicious and easy to devour!! I've never had ramen before so I have no other reference of experience but this was so satisfying! The sushi chef also provided a chili sauce for the ramen and it was a perfect balance of spice! My spicy tuna roll was so delicious and fresh! My roll was 8 large slices. I ate everything and walked out stuffed! I will definitely come back, with friends!

What a pleasant experience at this boutique restaurant. The customer service is the best I have ever seen at a restaurant in downtown New Bern. Geoffrey explained all about the saki selections to choose from and Miss Janya was truly a sushi artist. We enjoyed the Sakura Cherry Blossom sushi roll special which had the most delicious crab meat and a masterpiece of Emerald Roll. It was too beautiful to eat but we did! New Bern was first settled by Swiss from Bern Switzerland. Bern in English is Bear. So there are Bear statues all over New Bern. You know what the Japanese word Kuma translates to English? Bear.

For New Bern, this is pretty ok. Not sure the price justifies the quality but the service is top notch and the ambiance is great so that really balances it out. Great sake list if you like sake. I only tried the sashimi and nigiri so I can't speak to ramen, appetizers or rolls. The fish was kinda fishy but not so fishy that you can't eat it. If you like pure sushi- uni, and yellowtail are great choices! The best uni I've ever had in eastern North Carolina and the best environment to have sushi and sake. Will definitely be back to try more- and will definitely say it's the best sushi in New Bern.

Ignore the other reviews saying the food wasn't worth the money. This is bar far the freshest sushi we've had since leaving the west coast and you're gonna pay for it. This isn't your every Friday night sushi. This is your "let's go to the best sushi around" spot. The ingredients are all fresh (you can taste the difference!), the portions are larger than other spots in town, the flavors and textures are all balanced and delicious, the sashimi was great, and the service was some of the best in this area. They were very pleasant, attentive, and knowledgeable about all of their products. From the maitre d', to the server, and busser everything felt seamless and friendly. The decor was elegant, minimalistic, and inviting. If you don't care about any of this go for the food!

We ordered the Half Chef's Tour, which is their charcuterie, and it was honestly one of my favorite parts of the night. Great variety, really well balanced, and perfect for sharing. It set the tone for the whole meal. The scallop nightly special was perfectly cooked with that golden sear and super tender inside. The rosemary steak had so much flavor and was cooked exactly right. The Brussels were crispy and savory, and even the potstickers were a standout. Nothing felt like an afterthought. Service was perfect for the tapas setting too. Not rushed, we didn't feel over bothered, but not neglected either. Overall, it felt elevated but still comfortable. A great experience without feeling over the top. We'll definitely be back.

We arrived with a reservation (always a wise move), though we were seated immediately, greeted by a gracious host who set our lunch off on the right note. Once settled, we were welcomed by Philip, whose ease and genuine enthusiasm made the experience feel less transactional and more personal. He spoke about the menu with confidence and curiosity, the mark of someone who truly enjoys being there. Drinks came first: my husband ordered a Painkiller easily one of the best we had during our time on the coast while our son stuck with a classic Coke, and I opted for water. As we ordered, it became clear we were leaning fully into the small plates philosophy. When Philip smiled and dubbed us "tapas aficionados," it felt like an acknowledgment rather than a joke and in that moment, we felt perfectly at home. The table filled quickly. Spanish lamb meatballs arrived first, glazed with sriracha and paired with whipped feta and cilantro bold, balanced, and deeply satisfying. Pork pot stickers followed, tender and flavorful, with a soy-ginger dipping sauce and sweet Thai chili providing just the right contrast. The Gambas al Ajillo shrimp bathed in extra-virgin olive oil and garlic, served with crostini, was classic and comforting. But the standout was the Potatoes Bravas: sliced potatoes grilled to a crisp and finished with a spicy brava aioli. They were addictive in the best way, the kind of dish you keep thinking about long after the table is cleared. Circa 81 is polished yet relaxed, clean, and thoughtfully maintained, a place where the food arrives hot, the service feels human, and the atmosphere invites you to linger. It's a restaurant I would happily return to, and one that earned its place among my favorites on the Crystal Coast.

Yakitori house has really stepped up their game since the last time we were there a few years ago…read more I can't comment on service or ambiance because it was take out. But the food wonderful as "take out!" In the past 10 years, their Takoyaki was the only thing that kept the Yakitori House on our "list". Last Friday, because we wanted takoyaki, we decided to order for takeout a whole meal with appetizers (we like to have an assortment of things to taste). It was payday Friday, I couldn't get anyone on the phone to take my "pick up" order, so I went in person only 30 minutes after they had opened and found they were swamped! I waited in my car for 45 minutes for my order (ugh). Got, home and opened all the to-go boxes, and dug in. Oh my God! The food was amazing. You know the food is good when you both are smiling and making yummy noises, talking about the food nonstop and sharing it with each other. WELL DONE, Yakitori House for changing the business model and focusing on the food! We enjoyed it so much we ordered out again (this evening before Thanksgiving, just 5 days after we ordered out the last time). It just really good food that makes you happy! The food was wonderful again! But I have one note...I ordered the vegetable stir fry. What I got was steamed vegetables that had no flavor other than the flavor from the bare steamed vegetables, no nothing extra. That was disappointing, but I poured some of the Age Dashi sauce (I had leftover from my appetizer) over the steamed vegetables (that were supposed to be stir fried) and it was delicious! That Age Dashi sauce is delicious! New to us was Karaage, Japanese fried chicken with what looks like Yumyum sauce to dip it in...delicious. I tried the Bulgogi plate...tender strips of steak cooked in a savory and sweet sauce with rice, salad, soup, a dab of kimchi, and a few grapes. A delicious and delightful special entree! My husband loves the way they do Omurice now. He couldn't believe that every bite had a piece of chicken. I saw peas and shiitake. I wish Yakitori House would do the menu like they do in Japan. Their menus had pictures of every dish. I haven't been in Japan since 1997 but I never knew the names of the dishes I was eating. So now I have to google the items on the menu to see if I'd like it, ugh! Over all, Yakitori House is doing an amazing job creating wonderful flavorful food which is pleasing to the pallet and the eye even when it's in take out (I was impressed with that Bulgogi take-out plate)! I wish we had taken pics, but both times we were more interested in diving in.
