Ambiance is great and pricing is good but that's pretty much where it stops. (I've also been here twice because I don't like judging off of one experience) 1) Food is bland and I've tried a lot so I can give reference: *Chinese broccoli *Pork and shiitake spring rolls *Hobo noodles (decent) *Pineapple fried rice *Ginger fried chicken (chicken is bland and only good part is the sauce which is just like a chipotle mayo) 2) Staff is not the friendliest or attentive. 3) Our server made an error on our check (forgetting to add an item) and so when we went to pay we noticed the total was different than what we saw on the original check. When we asked he (what I could only assume was the manager) got flustered and said a mistake was made. Before we could even reply he walked away and then directly behind us starting speaking to our waiter saying "now they're arguing with me" and kinda scolded him within earshot. It was really awkward and we weren't even arguing we simply just noticed the total was different than what it originally said. I will definitely not be back. I was a little concerned coming in to here given all the reviews and got a little more alarmed when the menu offered Irish, Thai and Japanese all in one. But my friends and I decided to give the restaurant a shot anyways. - Tofu appetizer was not unique in flavor and something you'd expect from an amateur chef cooking tofu at home for the first time - Papaya Salad, the only thing that was decent - Fried Chicken, for a fried chicken lover like myself, this was extremely basic Fried Chicken, weak on flavor - Fried Shrimp, don't bother, it tastes like it was brought frozen from a grocery store and deep fried - Pineapple Fried Rice - probably the worst dish. You must go to this adorable Thai restaurant if you're in the Nolita area. I've been coming here for dinner for more than a decade, they have never let me down. The chicken is consistently juicy and bursting with flavor in the ginger fried chicken. I adore ordering shrimp summer rolls and sautéed Chinese broccoli on the side. A 10/10 dish for a more substantial lunch would be grilled fish over spicy green curry! The pad thai or fried rice, with your choice of protein, is a traditional dish that I highly suggest! You can't go wrong because of their amazing cuisine. If you're in the mood for something sweet, they also have a killer dessert menu. My personal favorites are the baked chocolate cake and Mochi ice cream, but they also have other alternatives like cookies and gelato. They have a great selection of wines, beers, and cocktails on their drink menu! Sparkling wine is my personal favorite since it always tastes crisp and clean. Now, if you're feeling a little more daring, I suggest trying the Jalapeno Mezcal Margarita; it's delicious and a little spicy. This is a lovely and intimate restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating, and a lower area for larger groups or private gatherings. Time flies at this kind of place because you're indulging in delicious food and taking in the atmosphere. The meal is served quickly, the prices are reasonable, and the staff is courteous. Overall, the service is excellent. I would advise carrying cash, but you can also use an American Express card to make your payment. The restaurant is situated in the center of the tourist-friendly and reasonably bustling neighborhood of Nolita. Public transit is the most convenient method to get here; the restaurant is close to multiple subway lines. There isn't much parking in this area, so be cautious if you intend to drive. read more

Lunch set special is a great deal for a noodle dish and soup or edamame, with tea added for an additional few dollars. The Hobo Noodles were solid as far as Thai dishes go. I was particularly surprised by the miso soup and enjoyed the mushrooms in it. I'm sure there are other Thai establishments nearby with similar menus, and Lovely Day did not stand out as somewhere I would return to, especially since the service was near abysmal due to how understaffed the restaurant seemed. I practically had to beg for water and the waitress was nasty. Was really hoping that the low ratings were due to one-off experiences but unfortunately the consensus is true. We ordered pork and mushroom spring rolls, ginger fried chicken, hobo noodles, red curry. Everything besides the pork spring rolls was pretty average but the spring rolls just didn't taste like anything compared to the other spring rolls I've had in the past, it was really really bland. Food on average is on the sweeter side of the spectrum. There is no "service" component here if you're looking for that. We weren't looked after and the waiter actually took away our fried chicken plate when I wasn't even done with it.... They also knocked over my beer but didn't offer to bring me a new one.... Lovely Day is a New York staple. I started going there in 2003. And after a hiatus of a few years plus the pandemic, I was happy to learn that LD is still here! The food is really good and fair priced. It's an interesting fusion of Japanese and Thai with delicious Latin and English inspired desserts. I ordered the Pineapple Cashew Vegetables entree with tofu and brown rice, which was good (nothing fantastic) and flavorful (spicier than expected), but the sauce was very heavy. We asked about other vegan entree options and there were barely any - neither of the curries were vegan, which I've never experienced before at a Thai restaurant. My friend ordered the Pad Thai with tofu made vegan (without egg and fish sauce) and it was absolutely flavorless - they even brought her hot sauce and soy sauce to flavor it since there was basically nothing in it. Uber explained that I was charged bc the food was being prepared and when I asked if I could go pick it up, Uber placed me on hold to call Lovely Day then came back and said it wouldn't be possible. Curry's used to be flavor Bombs and delicious and now they're just spicy coconut milk slop. $20 for mushy rice and a meld of mushy vegetables and spicy water. The vibes are very interesting at night, seems like a completely different place during the day. It was dimly lit with loud music playing, very fun atmosphere for sure. The chow fun was solid (not oily at all!) and so was the green papaya salad. Salad wasn't spicy, but still delicious! Came here on a Saturday night around 8:15pm and it took around 35-40 minutes. We placed our order at the bar and after a few minutes our beverages were ready to go. The space is small so it felt a bit awkward standing right in the middle while servers were trying to get around us, but hey what can you do. It's New York! I'm giving this spot three starts due to the quality of the hot chocolate, as well as it's price. For a small cup (probable less than 12 ounces) we paid $4 each. 'Twas a Lovely Day walking into this tight knitted brunch joint hidden in SoHo. Although our party was 25+ minutes late (sorry to our hostess) we thoroughly enjoyed our time here. The aesthetics were very hipster and the menu offered a different take on brunch. There was a heavy Thai presence on the menu, but offered the normal brunch options. To start, drinks were fairly priced. $8 and $9 for mimosa and bloody respectively. Our group ordered the Irish coffee. Every one of our coffees were poured with a HEAVY hand on the whiskey. It was almost undrinkable. I walked out stuffed from good food and a strong buzzy. Didn't hate it... Food: attached you'll see the eggs Benedict that offers a fresh arugula salad and a potato pancake. All the ingredients were fresh and flavorful. The first time I came here (about 2 years ago) we walked into an empty restaurant. Could have been because of the time of the day (3PM on a Wednesday). My friend and I stopped by yesterday around noon (so lunch time) and this place was POPPIN! Not too packed but a big difference. I got the same thing I got the first time I was there Coconut curry noodle, with chicken. LOVED it. I don't know what it is about soup on a cold and rainy day but it really hits the spot. Only thing I didn't like was the chicken. I just feel like it's not really seasoned so everything in the bowl tastes like it goes well together and then you bite into a piece of the chicken and it completely throws you off. It was just in there for protein tbh. Really no big deal, I still ate the soup, udon and veggies . I like the way the place is lit and decorated. We sat in booths and I loved how cozy it felt. There were quite a few people getting lunch at this quaint little establishment. I was visiting the nearby Elizabeth street gardens and stopped by for a hot chocolate to go ($4/cup). I wouldn't say service is their main priority, as I thought the cashier/bartender was very distant. She neither looked nor spoke to us much aside from the transaction. Lovely Day is a perfectly serviceable Thai restaurant in Nolita. I've been here a couple times after getting turned away at Uncle Boon's, which is sad because they aren't really in the same league. It's a cute spot, with red vinyl booths, old school wallpaper, and tables jammed together. Feels a bit like a Midwestern basement. I don't often feel claustrophobic in New York restaurants, but this is too close for comfort. You really have to watch out for your neighbors and the waitstaff bustling around. The menu is big, including non-Thai food like burgers, and they also have some daily specials. Many vegetarian options. Prices are standard for the area. I had a green coconut curry tofu dish and though the sauce was fine, the tofu was like a sponge sucking the flavor out of my mouth. The portion is generous though. My boyfriend fared better with some kind of pork belly noodles. Their wine is quite cheap but not not great. Service is sweet and clearly working their buns off. The kitchen might be too small for the space, though, as simple dishes can take a while. This is a decent pick given the location but eating here in the heat of a Friday night is not my favorite activity. read more

Small, mom and pop feel describes the atmosphere once you settle into a booth, shiny comfy seat and all. True diner style, yet homey with vintage floral wallpaper. And what you can see are chefs going at it, cooking and pouring. We ordered the long beans, which could have used more spice as they were suggested to be. Gluten free pad Thai (allergy), green curry with chicken, and a large carafe of house sake (chilled). Pad Thai was comforting, and good. Curry wasn't spicy enough for husband, but all in all we left fed, happy and full. Large carafe for two is pretty hefty, very tasty. Go for the smaller size, you'll still have plenty :) read more
