I've come here a couple times now and am definitely a fan. The first time I ordered six different types for a birthday brunch and everyone devoured them. The green tea was really good, and the lemon pistachio, strawberry... all good and just the right amount of sweetness. I don't like overly sweet desserts and always cut the sugar by a third whenever I bake so I was glad the cupcakes here are well balanced. First Love ($2.50): Madagascar bourbon vanilla cupcakes topped with vanilla frosting (Anyone that bakes knows that Madagascar bourbon vanilla is the shit! Especially when you use it for cupcakes? She got the following: Pretty in Pink - I didn't like it. It had a weird after-taste. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but it just tasted different that wasn't my cup of tea. To be sure, I tried 2 and I got the same results. I'll have to pass on this flavor. Red Velvet - I like it but it taste similar to Cups and Cakes Bakery. It was very moist, fluffy and light. I came here for a wedding cupcake tasting, listed the flavors I was interested in trying over the phone to the manager, and then was a little taken aback when I was charged full price for the 6 cupcakes I was tasting. That's the only place who charged me for a tasting, and I wish they'd been up front about it over the phone. I came here for their popular cupcakes and found all of them, mini and regular sized (as I bought a bunch) to be dry. The icing was too sweet on all of them, especially on red velvet where the icing is supposed to be a delicious buttercream. I think they just put regular frosting on it which kind of killed the idea of red velvet in my opinion. I guess I will have to go back to try the green tea because they did not have it when Iw went but their vanilla and I think either Lemon or something was not impressive at all. I had to find a cupcake place in the East Bay that would deliver to my co-worker for her birthday (on Sunday) since we're all WFH these days... and Love at First Bite didn't disappoint. I called the bakery since going direct is always better than one of those third-party apps, and it was smooth and painless - and they even include a message with the delivery if you need. All of the flavors on their website were available for delivery - I'm assuming if you want same day delivery you're at the mercy of what's left in the case. But VERY reasonable delivery prices, I might add!! Based on our wedding colors, she made great recommendations on color and flavor combos. She didn't charge extra to customize nor did she charge for any decorations. Some shops do. The delivery fee is very reasonable. The cupcakes are presented on a tiered stand decorated with any ribbon that you provide (see pic). You can even have her make you a small cake for the top tier of your stand for the "cutting of the cake", if you'd like. They come in regular size or mini. At $2.25-2.95 each (regular), they are a steal compared to $5-10/slice for wedding cake. Plus they are so cute and fun. And you get to give your guests a variety of flavors to choose from! read more

Pam was really friendly and easy to deal with. I initially contacted her because my son wanted diamond shaped cupcakes in a sword pattern. Well even though she didn't do diamonds she was very creative to come up with a pattern that closely matched the image I found on google. The case she provided was very protective for traveling and ensured no single cupcake got damaged . Cupcakes were very delicious and I was able to recreate the pattern layout that they were when I picked them up. I recommend this place to anyone deciding to use them for a special occasion. The frosting balanced out the cake very nicely and it just worked in ways I've noticed other bakeries completely fail. We have loved the cupcakes from Love at First Bite and bring them to many celebrations, especially appreciating the vegan flavors for our nieces who have food allergies. But today we were wowed by one of their cakes. We ordered a 1/4 sheet cake in Cookies and Cream (it's basically all the same flavor options as their cupcakes) and had them partially decorate it (we added some toppers) for our son's 3rd birthday and had it delivered to the Berkeley Hills. This place is not that good for a shop that only sells cupcakes and cookies. I mean they're good and all, probably beats the cupcakes at the supermarket (I find that the icing is a clear reflection of the caliber of a cupcake.), but for about 2.75, do yourself the favor and skip dessert. The cookies are average also. They're decent, but not worth the fat intake and cost. I mean if you have to have a cookie, I'd rather opt for the double chocolate at Cheeseboard (unfortunately they're not always available). Teacake also wins in the cookie dept too. This place was absolutely delicious. I had the ginger vegan cupcake and the frosting was delicious and the cupcake had the perfect amount. There were actual chunks of ginger in the cupcake and it was super moist and delicious. I would definitely come back again. read more

I came here to get cupcakes for a baby shower I was throwing...this was a while ago, before cupcakes were so super popular and there were other cupcakeries closer to my house. The cupcakes were a total hit, everyone thought that they looked great and tasted hm, hmm good. So why I haven't been back there since, is clearly a flaw in character I'll strive to correct. I've been running around going to cupcake places that are more expensive, less flexible (like mini-cupcakes are special order) and don't taste as good. Sweet potato cupcake!? Is it possible to love my first bite any more than I already do!? FINALLY I visited Berkeley on a non-Monday, which meant I got to indulge in my cupcake habit! I actually haven't eaten cupcakes in a few months, so I embarrassingly could only tolerate the orgasmic elation of one cupcake :( BUT! My goal was not selfishly driven--it was to expose my cousin and my roommate to love at first bite mmm. I then got to bring two cupcakes home to my roommate, who also fell in love at first bite :3 I decided to eat the SWEET POTATO, a sweet potato cake with burnt sweet potato-infused whipped cream, topped with a glazed pecan, $3.25. The sweet potato in the cake (which was the largest size I've ever seen here) was in perfect unison with the huge mound of light, airy, gently sweet whipped cream, and the caramelized layer on top was genius. Even the pecan was a treasure in itself! My cousin devoured the EGGNOG, a vanilla cake with eggnog buttercream, topped with a sprinkling of cinnamon and a white chocolate ball, $3.25. The buttercream definitely overcompensated for the normalcy of the cake with its cinnamony sweetness. I've never tried eggnog before, so the buttercream tasted suspiciously like horchata to me. Also, I felt like they were too generous with the cream, which made the cupcake a bit too sweet. To spread the love, I bought the MATCHA GREEN TEA for my roommate, a green tea cake made with ceremonial matcha tea, topped with matcha-infused whipped cream and a sugar flower, $2.75. Both the type of cream and the volume of cream make a difference in the experience of cupcake consumption! I also took home the PUMPKIN, a pumpkin spice cupcake topped with maple cream cheese frosting and a chocolate caramel ball, $2.75. This truly is a pumpkin spice cake in a cup! My order of preference would be: 1) Matcha green tea (whipped cream) 2) Sweet potato (whipped cream) 3) Pumpkin (cream cheese) 4) Dark chocolate salted caramel (buttercream) 5) Eggnog (buttercream) 6) Red velvet (cream cheese) (mainly because I outgrew the red velvet hype) They take card for any amount. Also, if you want cardboard cupcake holders in your box so that your cupcakes don't commit the greatest sin of all time by toppling over, you need to get a box that holds 4+ cupcakes.
