I had to find a cupcake place in the East Bay that would deliver to my co-worker for her birthday (on Sunday) since we're all WFH these days... and Love at First Bite didn't disappoint. I called the bakery since going direct is always better than one of those third-party apps, and it was smooth and painless - and they even include a message with the delivery if you need. All of the flavors on their website were available for delivery - I'm assuming if you want same day delivery you're at the mercy of what's left in the case. But VERY reasonable delivery prices, I might add!! Turns out my co-worker has been here multiple times and loves it; I'm so glad I was able to send her a box of sunshine on her shelter-in-place birthday. Thanks, Love at First Bite!!! Pam was really friendly and easy to deal with. I initially contacted her because my son wanted diamond shaped cupcakes in a sword pattern. Well even though she didn't do diamonds she was very creative to come up with a pattern that closely matched the image I found on google. The case she provided was very protective for traveling and ensured no single cupcake got damaged . Cupcakes were very delicious and I was able to recreate the pattern layout that they were when I picked them up. I recommend this place to anyone deciding to use them for a special occasion. They seem like they provide an excellent service and are true to their level of quality . Only reason I gave them one less star was for the price. For a dozen it was a bit pricey for me, at over 3 bucks a pop. But hey guess you gotta pay for quality right? Stumbled on this place for a birthday cupcake set vs cake. Wish I found it earlier since they make cakes in cupcake flavors if you preorder. Was first person to come in when they opened Sunday morning so I got my pick from the very friendly staff Walked out with a matcha tea, blueberry lemon, salted caramel chocolate, and chocolate pistachio. We have loved the cupcakes from Love at First Bite and bring them to many celebrations, especially appreciating the vegan flavors for our nieces who have food allergies. But today we were wowed by one of their cakes. We ordered a 1/4 sheet cake in Cookies and Cream (it's basically all the same flavor options as their cupcakes) and had them partially decorate it (we added some toppers) for our son's 3rd birthday and had it delivered to the Berkeley Hills. It was a hit! It looked nice, they added mini Oreos around the edges, but the flavor blew everyone away. All the grownups were raving about how it tasted like a cupcake in cake form, and I think that's how I'd describe it. Somehow more decadent and rich than a normal cake, and the Oreo cream frosting was a great balance to the cake. The grownups were all sneaking seconds. It was huge, plenty to feed a party of 22 adults and 8 kids and have leftovers we're hiding from our son. And a reasonable price for all that. I am giving more stars that they deserve simply cause they had vegan cup cakes. Both vegan chocolate and gingerbread were good but not amazing. They were on a dryer side and crumbled easily. We also got coconut cup cake and one more which I forgot (you can tell it was not a memorable experience). Also all the frostings tasted fake to us. Like they were made of artificial flavors or something. We tossed the frostings and didn't eat them. The service was good. Pricy for the quality. read more

Years ago, before Yelp, I fell in love with the Matcha cupcakes here while visiting family in Berkeley and stumbling upon the adorable shop while at Cheeseboard Collective. My son loved the cupcake and Gayle's son said he loved the cookie (after he sneaked off with it). She got the following: Pretty in Pink - I didn't like it. It had a weird after-taste. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but it just tasted different that wasn't my cup of tea. To be sure, I tried 2 and I got the same results. I'll have to pass on this flavor. Red Velvet - I like it but it taste similar to Cups and Cakes Bakery. It was very moist, fluffy and light. Took us a while to find this place-- but I was DETERMINED. Thank goodness that my man and I finally found it. Oh my goodness. We ended up with 3 different flavors: 1 mud pie, 1 matcha, and a mini lemon kiss. Mud pie: was DELICIOUS (I was only allowed one bite before my fiancé scarfed it all down) it had a very pure chocolate flavor with none of that over powering sugar taste. I came here for a wedding cupcake tasting, listed the flavors I was interested in trying over the phone to the manager, and then was a little taken aback when I was charged full price for the 6 cupcakes I was tasting. That's the only place who charged me for a tasting, and I wish they'd been up front about it over the phone. Maybe I am wrong here and I need to give it another try, but I was simply underwhelmed by this place. I came here for their popular cupcakes and found all of them, mini and regular sized (as I bought a bunch) to be dry. The icing was too sweet on all of them, especially on red velvet where the icing is supposed to be a delicious buttercream. I think they just put regular frosting on it which kind of killed the idea of red velvet in my opinion. I guess I will have to go back to try the green tea because they did not have it when Iw went but their vanilla and I think either Lemon or something was not impressive at all. Cute little bits of scrumptious cake covered in even more sugary loveliness. - Pretty in Pink - tasted just like strawberry ice cream, with real strawberry puree in the icing. Not too sweet, just right. - Mud Pie - If it was possible to make a cupcake taste like strawberry ice cream, then it is certainly possible to make a cupcake taste like an ice cream dessert. I absolutely LOVED my wedding cupcakes from Love at First Bite!!! The owner Pat Powell was accomodating and easy to work with. Based on our wedding colors, she made great recommendations on color and flavor combos. She didn't charge extra to customize nor did she charge for any decorations. Some shops do. The delivery fee is very reasonable. The cupcakes are presented on a tiered stand decorated with any ribbon that you provide (see pic). You can even have her make you a small cake for the top tier of your stand for the "cutting of the cake", if you'd like. They come in regular size or mini. At $2.25-2.95 each (regular), they are a steal compared to $5-10/slice for wedding cake. Plus they are so cute and fun. And you get to give your guests a variety of flavors to choose from! read more

Before they put in the cupcake rack, the employees had to come out from behind the counter and pick up the cupcakes from under glass domed lids without knocking the pile over. This new set up is much quicker and has a more open feel for the customer. The frosting was just too sweet which defeated the purpose of green tea. But if you're one of those people who likes things really sweet, then definitely check it out. Wish I found this spot BEFORE I had lunch. Because I came after stuffing myself silly, I could not physically eat one more bite (visions of Monty Python's The Meaning of Life). However, I was soooo tempted. So I tried their mini cupcake (and I did not explode!). I just had to find out if they use a package mix or not and if their frostings were worth the calories. After trying the lemon cupcake, I came to the conclusion that this is the real deal. There was no hint of package aftertaste and the frosting was a blend of buttercream and cream cheese. Oh yum. Love at First Bite has a variety of flavors, and admittedly they do look smaller than other cupcakes that I have seen. On the flipside, you won't suffer from cupcake guilt too much after having one. Prices range from $2.50 - $2.75. Other merchandise includes birthday candles and holders, kids hairclips, cute gift-y things for girls/women. The owner here has been here a few years now. Literally ran here 10 minutes before closing and got a 2 for 1deal for frankly, very delicious cupcakes. I say delicious because I didn't find the whole cupcake too sweet. The frosting balanced out the cake very nicely and it just worked in ways I've noticed other bakeries completely fail. I'd say this place would be adorable to cater your daughter's birthday party from, or some girlie get together or some broey get together for cupcake lovers. Everything is very adorable and seriously the flavor combinations are quite nice. I'm giving it 4 stars because I think they could make the vegan cupcakes a little more moist but that's just me. read more

Love at First Bite...mmm I don't think so :[ I really wish that was so. My grandmother and mother were and are wonderful bakers and they both have created much more magnificent cupcakes then the ones I got at Love at First Bite. ~Decor was definitely warm and appealing. Very clean and the seating outside is nice. (+1) ~Service was meh, had to wait quite a while actually. (-1) ~The Peanut Butter cupcake was dry and the icing had no flavor and essentially my favorite thing about it was the candy on top. (-1) ~The Pretty in Pink cupcake was, in fact very pretty, and the cake was moist and the icing delectable. (+1) ~Mud Pie was the worst of the bunch, dry and just unsatisfying. (-1) read more
