My Husband ordered the meatloaf sandwich and Ingot the two egg omelette with a side of crisply fried bacon and the most amazing cranberry rye bread and butter. The food is delicious and super cheap!The have a wide variety of coffee beverages and a cooler of soft drinks. Just order at the counter and take a number. It's a short wait for your food and you can sip on your caffeine beverage of your choice while you do a little shopping. This is the go to place in Two Harbor's by far! Stopped in for breakfast, and was warmly greeted. Ordered a breafast sandwich, which was so good, I had to order it again. The coffee was of good quality (Duluth Coffee Company methinks) and refilled before empty. Upon seein the gnomes, I said, "Oh, no it must be getting near the end of gnome season," but the friendly gentlemen remarked happily, "it's always gnome season." Haha, hard to disagree! Some extremely cool homemade crafts were in abundance within Louise's Place, including gnomes, various knitted pieces, and greeting cards, which I ended up getting, along with some tableclothes (since gifted out, no picture available of those). The most homemade food in town! The homemade Swedish rye is to die for! Looking for something sweet; homemade bars and cookies. They have Take 'n Bakes of wonderful comfort foods. Hand made consignment items and a small market place add to the variety. Highly recommend Louise's Place! read more

We went for a quick lunch on a Friday. The restaurant refuses indoor seating and uses the former dining area to display merchandise for sale. They had plexiglass galore, masks, and sanitizer and yet no restroom for customers. We were basically told to use a port-a-potty quite a walking distance away. And, they give customers a bucket of dirty pens to sign the receipt. The concern is not for the customer apparently as there are also a few tables outside in the hot sun with no evidence of being sanitized and chairs and tables are very close together. Not the 6' distance they post for you to keep. We ordered the special which was not priced on the board. It came to about $12 and included a small hamburger bun with traces of pulled chicken and a lot of coleslaw filler. No drinks only a small sandwich and chips. Poor value and poor customer care. read more

The sandwiches and burritos were fine. Better than Subway or some such place. My (Ruffles?) chips were slightly stale, though my companion's Tostitos were not. I probably spent most of my tourist dollars in Louise's place. Several times we bought a late lunch to take to Castle Danger Brewing. They also have great Minnesota products to buy and take home as souvenirs. And they have local crafted products; I bought two pairs of hand knitted and thermal lined mittens. They also make an awesome breakfast sandwich. When we return to Minnesota next year we will go back to Louises place. read more

We took the North Shore Scenic railroad fall colors trip up to Two Harbors and had two hours to spend in Two Harbors. We decided to walk just across from the Depot to grab something to eat. Of the three options on the corner only Louise's was open... so that was what we tried. The place is VERY SMALL and cozy inside. Since there were a number of people in there and we had a pretty large group of 11, we decided to get it to go an eat outside. I tried the chicken salad sandwich on the cranberry wild rice bread. It was a pretty decent sandwich and bread was very good. The chili that I had was ok but nothing to write home about. All in all a pleasant meal from a simple lunch cafe. read more

Ma and pa lunch joint located just a shade off of the main path in Two Harbors. The gyro was $6.75 and delicious. Lots of Tzatziki sauce that makes a gyro so good. Ice cream cones were delicious too, just a little on the pricy side. Although part of me thinks we were overcharged by a newbie. Regardless, we got an extra scoop so were satisfied. :) Kinda feels like you're at grandma's house. Paper plates, fast service. I reside in Boston, grew up in the South, but have parents who recently relocated to southern Canada, er I mean Northern Minnesota. After my third knee surgery it was decide that it was in my best interest-not my best mental interest, mind you-that I spend a portion of my summer with the 'rents in Duluth. After six weeks of being cooped up at home I ripped the car keys from my mom's hands the minute my surgeon cleared me for driving and I hit the open road. I immediately headed north. I've only had the pleasure of dining with Louise once, but I'd recommend, er drag, anyone to it who's in the Two Harbors area. I never heard of Swedish pancakes until spending time in northern MN. The idea of them intrigued me a great deal. After taking a look at various restaurants in the Two Harbors area I decided that Louise's Place was worth a look. I'm oh so happy that I stopped here. I spent all of $7 and I got three Swedish pancakes, two sausage patties, and a peach tart. All of these were homemade and were wake the entire area code up orgasm worthy. I almost ordered the meatloaf sandwich and I definitely will if it's available when I'm in these parts again. I truly don't believe you can go wrong in Louie's. As a buddy of mine said in reference to a Greek restaurant in Astoria Queens, NYC, you owe it to yourself to go to Louise's. read more

Quick lunch with a charming, at home feel. Louise's offers friendly service, affordable items and classic dining standards. Went there for a quick lunch on our way further up the shore and it felt like I was getting served by a neighbor or family member. I had Louise's club - awesome! The cranberry rye was the crowning finish. My traveling companion had corn beef and quite enjoyed it. If you like microwaved food, great! By all means, this is the place for you. We went here for breakfast, from what we saw, ate, and heard (beep beep beep!), the entire breakfast menu is microwaved. I wanted to like Louise, but the latte I ordered was a big bummer. I was hopeful when I saw all the syrup flavorings they had, that they'd hit the spot for my caffeine fix, and it would make for a lovely pick-me up to sip & enjoy on my drive back to the cities. But sadly, mine tasted like watered down gas station coffee :( It was confusing- I didn't watch her make it but it didn't taste like it had milk OR espresso in it?! I hate to admit it, because it makes me sound overly picky & wasteful, but I had to dump it out and stopped at another local coffee shop in Cloquet. The interior décor seemed to cater to an older crowd. Some quilts, crafts and dolls. That's all I'll say on that front. Their dessert case looked pretty yummy- they had 2 different peanut butter chocolate bars... a rice krispy variety & a corn flake variety. Always nice to check-out a local small town shop, but if you are going to be a café, you got to get those lattes down! read more

Simple, yet delicious. A well-apportioned ham n' cheese like grandma used to make (pickles and chips, too!). This is one of the first places that all three kids raved about - and they ate every bite of their food. There's must be some sort of wizardry going on for that to happen. Great malts, too - and the peanut butter and chocolate ice cream is done the correct way - chocolate ice cream surrounding slices of peanut butter. Yum! read more

I love this place! New owners same old goodness! Convenient location downtown with ample parking. They are open for breakfast and lunch with daily specials. I love the comfort food-- sloppy joes, wild rice soup, hot dish, and I savor the create your own sandwich. I had roast beef and Swiss on cranberry wild rice and took a loaf of the cranberry rye home. I have yet to be there on Pasty Day, but look forward to it one of these visits. I have heard rave reviews. There is a large coffee and pastry menu. It's all delicious. The owners are young; you'll see them behind the counter, making and serving your food. Local artists and crafters sell their goods in the cafe. I just learned this last visit they also do catering! Louise's Place has new owners, Dan and Marsha, who are keeping atmosphere and tweaking the menu a bit for the better. Dan is a chef and left working for corporate America to do this. Marsha has come home to our community. I run a fund raiser for Africa annually and Louise is always the most generous contributor. There is LOVE in this food. New owners are using more eco-friendly to go boxes. Staff attuned to health needs, i.e., low salt etc. Just ask, they want to make it a fun and HEALTHY dining experience. Thanks to Louise /fransen for all her years in providing a nice gathering place for older people downtown. HIDDEN GEM--Kitty Mayo works there at times and is the most knowledgeable person in town for tourists to talk two. Such a cute little cafe with a small town feel. The food is all freshly made to order and the meatloaf sandwich is highly recommended. Within walking distance of Lake Superior and also not far from Castle Danger Brewery, so you can grab a bite and then a pint. Best to go in the summer and fall if you want to get the full experience. Wish there was a little more room in there as there are not a lot of tables, so another reason to go when the weather is nice, so you can get it to go and take it down to the water. Cozy and welcoming spot near the lake in Two Harbors. Crafts for sale were fun to look at and sparked good conversation in our family of four. The kids had perfectly simple meat and cheese sandwiches, and the parents had tasty taco salads with good lettuce (not a shred of iceberg lettuce!) we topped it all off with peanut butter hot fudge bars- so great. How this place has 4 stars is a mystery to me. The food is sub-par and the coffee is dreadful. We had a cinnamon roll, a caramel roll, and egg sandwiches. The rolls were enormous and average in terms of quality - about what you'd get at any mediocre coffee shop. The egg sandwiches were gross - the eggs were flat and grayish. The place was crammed with locals and in the heart of downtown... This makes me think that the dining situation in Two Harbors is pretty dire in general. My advice is to get back in your car and drive to Duluth. read more
