My wife and I staying in our Lake Home at Superior Shores over Valentine's Day weekend felt compelled to go out for a romantic dinner. I had suggested going to our usual go to, the Ledge Rock Grill at Larsmont. My wife insisted staying closer to home and taking advantage of the Valentines seven course dinner menu at Vue North in Superior Shores Resort. We got to the restaurant and were promptly seated at a window table as requested in our reservation. Being a true foodie from way back, I always opt for a well prepared gourmet meal as opposed to a standard menu. I have to admit I was skeptical when I booked the reservation, but am pleased to say the current Chef hit it out of the park. Every course was over the top and a clear ten. Obviously a lot of thought and talent went into both the creation of the menu and preparation of each course. I haven't had a gourmet meal of this caliber in years. Everything about this place is amazing from the beautiful dining room and bar to the view of the lake plus the gracious servers and wide ranging menu! I love the fact I can get a half salad (the goat cheese one is the best!) or go full out and get a great steak. We stopped by on the way home from Split Rock Lighthouse, with the mistaken notion that traffic would dissipate as we at our meal. (How foolish we were.) Still, I don't regret going here. We sat by a window with a decent view of the water and plenty of light. Our server was very friendly and helpful. While we waited for our food, we walked out on the deck, which led to scenic marshy areas with trails. I ordered beet wellington with arugula, and my spouse had a chicken dish with risotto. Just half of the beet wellington with the arugula was enough to fill me up. I liked the beet wellington, but it would have been better if they figured out a way to season the beet. Maybe pierce it and marinate it a bit? The chicken and risotto were also good. If we were hungrier, we would have supplemented these dishes with more vegetables. This was a nice place to stop before returning on a long drive home. We enjoyed relaxing in the spacious dining room with evocative upscale cabin decor. As I finished typing this, my spouse chimed in, "Not amazing, but pretty good." And in a touristy area where restaurant quality can be hit or miss, pretty good is exactly that: pretty good. After a long day of hiking my 10 year old grandson wanted to try lamb I saw lamb on the menu at Vue. We had a great experience tonight. Zoey our server easily navigated our table. She recommended a cheeseburger as a backup to the lamb if William changed his mind. William loved the lamb. Sorry to his Dad!! I had the short ribs. Tender beef with a sensational sauce. We had dinner at Vue North on New Year's Eve and it was top notch. The food was delicious -- especially loved the salad and salted caramel dessert. They were very accommodating about our dietary restrictions -- no red meat, one seafood allergy and one gluten free. The beverage selections were vast and clever .... and delicious! Menu looked promising with good options but when we got our food we were more than disappointed, our burger was charred and our pizza looked like it was reheated from yesterday and was still cold. our server was no where to be seen most of the dinner while being one of 2 tables in the whole restaurant. very disappointing and very gross, not worth the money. read more

My wife and I had dinner here tonight and were mostly disappointed. Beautiful setting but that can never make up for poor food quality and inexperienced chefs or chefs who simply don't care about the taste of their meals. When you have a restaurant right on Lake Superior and walleye is a menu item, you should be required to know how to prepare it as well as how to not over cook it. The walleye was served with lateral line intact in the undersized fillet and tasted extremely fishy because of improper preparation. I've been a fisherman my whole life and have caught and eaten countless walleye and other fish species but never had one of my catches taste this poorly. Also no baked potato options. I have to wonder how long this place will last. I'll never try them again... read more

Was super excited to try a new place in the area. Service and view were great, food was a huge disappointment. Ordered some appetizers and they were alright. Then we ordered a medium rare ribeye, and a medium rare filet mignon. Both were served well done. They looked like pork chops. I've never sent food back before, but this was the one time I felt it was necessary. They brought us two new steaks, which are pictured below. Both were very cold and firm to the touch. I can't believe there is this caliber of restaurant in Northern Minnesota! We dined here for my boyfriend's birthday and it was definitely worth while. We shared the venison carpaccio for an appetizer and it was mouthwatering. I went with the lobster corn chowder for my entree and it actually shocked me just how perfect the lobster was cooked, i've dined at Michelin starred restaurants that haven't cooked their lobster this well. My boyfriend got the wild boar ribs and he loved them. We also shared a side of risotto and the lobster hasselback potato which were both delicious. The view is stunning and the whole vibe of Silver Creek Chophouse is so romantic. It's a big dining room so you don't feel like you're eating right next to other people. The service was wonderful as well, they even gave my boyfriend a free 7 layer cake for a birthday dessert! We will be dining here any time we are in town. read more

Food, service, and ambiance were all good. It was nice to see some vegetable options in two harbors. The burger was just fine. The truffle fries lacked a little in truffle flavor. They were some of the crispiest fries we've ever had so even if lacking a little in flavor they were good. The beet Wellington was delicious. Cocktails were great. We went to Vue North for mother's day Brunch. Ooof. Not good, especially for over $30 a plate, I was shocked at the abysmal service and the really poor food, along with very limited options at the buffet. Mimosas- these were tasty and were bottomless for moms.. there was a station and moms had to go get their own- which is not a huge deal, but there were no drinks included for the others having brunch.. no juice, no milk, etc. We clarified this with our server and he didn't even ask if anyone wanted a drink. He essentially vanished. Waffles- their FB advertisement described these as "fluffy" - no way, they were absolutely rock hard- I put my fork into one and it was so hard, it broke apart and a piece went flying to the next table over, and strawberry sauce sprayed on my shirt. I asked for a soft waffle and was told they were purchased premade from a bakery in town. Yogurt parfait ... these were super tiny.. the yogurt was plain (not flavored) and we were given a fork to eat it, which was difficult bc it was not thick yogurt. Typically yogurt would be eaten with a spoon, so this seems like a simple thing that should have been on the radar (and they weren't very good) "Chilaquiles" was a bowl of store bought tortillas with a huge vat of warm red sauce to pour over them, and a bowl of cheese and cilantro to add. I have had buffet chilaquiles and typically there are numerous components, and they are premade and you can just scoop them out. These were super bland. the honey ham was fine but that isn't difficult and the quiche was pretty good. There weren't any desserts, which would have been fine if the other food offered was more palatable. We attend various mom's day brunches yearly (and my kids are now adults), and this was by far the worst brunch we have had to date. Would definitely skip this one, not remotely worth the price tag, unfortunately. The view was beautiful, however, as described. read more

Let me start off by saying that this restaurant is quite beautiful and the view is pretty exquisite. There are several reasons for my 3-star review, though, and I do wish I could give this place a higher rating because our server was lovely. But the fact that it took our dinner over one HOUR to get to our table is pretty unacceptable. The venison carpaccio didn't taste like much. Taking a bite of the venison, a piece of arugula and some sauce, all you could taste was the arugula. As for the oysters, they were also mediocre. Expected an explosion in my mouth since they were $30. I have never had a piece of zabuton steak so I asked the server what he and the chef would recommend, since it is quite a fatty piece of meat. Medium - medium rare was suggested so I asked for medium rare. When my steak arrived, it was BLUE rare. 2 seconds away from being raw. I highly dislike sending my food back but there's no way I could eat an almost-raw piece of meat. Between meals, our server came by with snacks from the kitchen. I didn't see him do this to anyone else, so I had an inkling this was the reason our meal took over one hour to get to us. Perhaps our orders weren't placed? The kitchen messed up? Unsure. But I don't think I'll get over the fact that we sat down around 7:45pm and didn't leave until 10:15 or so. If I'm in the area again, I MAY give this place another shot, because having tried my husband's filet, that was the selling point. Happy they got 2/4 orders correct. read more

We were chauffeured from Duluth to this destination restaurant by our friends. We were cheerfully seated by smiling staff that were also very well dressed and mannered. Wonderful ambience, modern décor and comfortable seating. MaîtreD Sergio, who is also the restaurant manager visited us at our table. Being this was our first visit to the newly remodeled chophouse we had a long interaction and he was most helpful. The entry area has climate controlled glass wine room with wonderful wine selections, moderately to high priced. Our servers, Dianna and Myla were very cheerful and helpful. We pounded them with intriguing questions about their employment past. The menu was filled with intriguing selections and set up as a la carte. I would suggest that the menu has something for all and including those that are more adventurous. Menu selections I would describe as American eclectic. The four of us made different selections so that we could get the full understanding of the menu architecture. An amuse was presented prior to the first serving which was a very nice touch. Starter choices were presented with nice presentations. A framboise sorbet was presented and again nice touch. The main dishes arrived with other a la carte additions. Wonderful prestation. Head chef Andre paid us a visit tableside and therefor we questioned him at length. Born in Birmingham, worked in Greensburg and in South Africa. As with all the staff are non-native to the area. Great dining experience for fine dining in this tucked away part of Minnesota. A wonderful setting on the Northshore of Lake Superior. In summation: Great staff and well trained. Nice setting including interior. Comfortable seating. A bit pricy for north of the Metro. Linen tablecloths would be preferred. Another concern is keeping the staff after the season. While on a trip in Minnesota, my friends and I stopped by the chop house and we were starving! Walking in, everything appeared lovely. Great interior, easy seating without reservations on a Saturday. The cocktail menu was delightful. The food menu looked good too. We ordered drinks and apps and began waiting for our food. And waited. And waited.. And waited... We waited an hour, watching other patrons that arrived after us, eating before us. Just as we were deciding to just leave, the food rounded the corner and to our table One of our steaks was blue rare (ordered medium rare), and my steak was overcooked (ordered medium rare) and for being a 60-day dry aged NY steak, I expected to be WOWed. The wild mushroom risotto was a nice side but lacked the flavor I've been searching for after a great experience I had in Iceland. The lobster baked potato was truly delicious and the best item I had. Would I try again? I might. But for the price, I expected a lot more of a delicious experience. There was a lot left to be desired. The servers were great, warm and attentive. Although we were never given a reason for our hour long wait time. We have gone to Silver Creek Chophouse for the past 2 years on our anniversary, and it will continue to be a tradition for us! Last night we received EXCELLENT service from Armando, who was knowledgeable, kind, and prompt throughout our dining experience. The menu offers many specialty foods that I don't ever see at other restaurants, and everything we ordered was delicious! Beautiful presentation, ideal portion sizes, and timing between appetizers, meal, and dessert was perfect. The dining area is gorgeous, with spacious tables and very comfortable chairs, warm and inviting atmosphere overlooking Lake Superior.
