Went there on the recommendation of a friend who formerly lived in Superior. We were lucky to get a seat at the bar. We ordered two drafts and some cheesy bites. Very good and the beer was cold. There was a wait when we got there on a Friday afternoon so we spent that time walking around, building up the anticipation of how great this place might be. Got seated. Our server was super friendly and attentive. We sat in the downstairs seating area which had big booths which easily accommodated our party of 6. Place was clean but that is where the praise ends and hence the 3 stars. We ordered multiple appetizers and a whole bunch of entrees. Out of the appetizers, only the giant onion rings were a hit and unfortunately none of the entrees hit the spot. Like for pasta, we barely touched it cause it was really soggy. Went on a Friday around 6 PM and got lucky with outdoor seating. Service was great, but unfortunately the food was not. The wild rice soup was bland and tasted like canned grocery store soup. The onion rings was hard, almost raw onions inside, and the burger was honestly worse than a McDonald's or Burger King burger. No juicy patty, just a flat patty on a bun. Why is it called grandma's? This place looks more like a Red Robin. I was really excited to hear they have raspberry lemonade, but it may as well have been water, raspberry syrup, and a lemon. Whatever. I'm willing to forgive. My sister and I split the bacon mac n cheese. I don't really like bacon, but I just really wanted mac n cheese. I won't give my opinion on it, because I don't like bacon, so I'm a biased source. They did give us an extra breadstick. How nice. A friend who used to live in MN suggested we eat at Grandma's while visiting Duluth. It has a fun atmosphere with lots of old posters and signs hanging on all the walls. Our waitress was attentive to our needs. The Reuben sandwich was very good, the meat tender and tasty. I do wish they would add more sauerkraut, though. The fries are lightly battered and flavorful. The spaghetti and meatballs were good, but not in a meat sauce, as described in the menu. I tried the Duluth made Blackberry Basil seltzer and found it to be quite flavorful. This location came highly recommended to us from friends in Minneapolis, and it did not disappoint. The wait for a table was 45 minutes, but we skipped this and went right to the bar with no waiting. Stopped for lunch, waited 15 minutes to go upstairs because hostess said we'd have a view. Got upstairs to half empty dining room and were seated at a window with a view as promised however view was of trane air conditioning equipment on roof. Multiple servers serving approximately 7 tables. Took almost 15 minutes from being seated to get a few drinks from bar that was 8 feet away. 2 burgers, cold chicken salad and soup took almost an hour to come out. We were in town to see a show, and a friend recommended this place. I was not excited after checking the Yelp page, but honestly, I enjoyed it! I got to try the dill pickle cheese curds, which were not bad, but really different than I expected. I had it with their house-made Ranch, which I always love to see. My entree was the chicken pot pie. It was savory and salty and really yum. Service was fine and normal, and I got the impression from the "vibes" that this is something of a tourist-y place and apparently, they can get pretty busy during peak times. The inside decor is a throw back to the early advertising era with large metal signs hanging everywhere. It is comfortable and clean with a ton of seating areas. The rice was very mushy and the vegetables seemed like they were frozen out out of a bag. Grandmas saloon is very well-known. The food was quite underwhelming. We had the steak and shroom bites as an appetizer, and the steak was nicely cooked but over all the dish was so salty. After we stopped eating it I still couldn't get the saltiness out of my mouth. I had the cranberry turkey club with fries and a side salad. It was okay, definitely something you could just make at home. My bf had the French steak sandwich and there was so much cheese on it! Way too much cheese. The long islands, and bloody Mary's were INCREDIBLE! Our server was super cool too! He was very into his job and seemed to be playing a character to a point. The ambiance was also great! This was my very first time patronizing this storied establishment, of which I had heard about for many years. My family and I found the food here to be of high quality, with prices to match. I would highly recommend a fresh water fish offered here: the walleye sandwich (battered/breaded and deep fried). I think that it's Canadian-raised. Grandma's Saloon & Grill from what I understand is one of those local area staples. Generations of people in the Canal Park Area of either dined or worked at this establishment. And I'm sure there's some good stories to be told about this place, as you can tell it's been around for a very long time its unique decor on the inside. You can spend hours looking at everything on the walls and still find something new tucked away somewhere. The service was great. My server whose name i forgot was very helpful and attentive. And every now and then you could catch him chatting it up with his other tables and genuinely seemed like he was happy to be there. So atmosphere was amazing. The food is where they lost it for me. The Dill cheese curd bites were absolutely amazing, but the burger i got was far from tasty. The beef was very low quality in taste and texture. More seasoning wouldn't hurt and the fries were all very hard. Points for how fast the food came out, but those same points are lost because they probably could have slowed down to make a more quality product. I was with a group of 5 and nobody at the table was all too crazy about what they ordered either. Don't let this review keep you from visiting though. If i am ever in the area again, im not opposed to coming here especially because they can accommodate larger parties. read more

Seems the quality of the food and the selection of Italian food is not the same as it used to be considering the prices. My wife had the grilled chicken dinner and the taste was bland. The fish and chips was good, just not great. It seems Grandmas is just about the name these days.
