My wife and I had an early dinner here 12th of July 26. We greeted with a smile and seated very quickly. All the staff we encountered were polite and appeared to like working there. I.e. no attitudes. My wife ordered the pot roast. It was a plate full and tasted good. I ordered the backwoods Walleye. Which is a pan seared fillet of walleye with some broccoli and a sweet potato. Sweet potato was the best part of the meal! The fish represented as fantastic. It tasted incredibly fishing! Not typical Walleye. Had this been the first time I had ever eaten while I would probably never order it again anywhere. I did eat everything due to being hungry / hangry. I mentioned how fishy the fish was to both the waiter and the manager both apologized, but did not offer anything further. My personal favorite Blackwoods location. Have been here several times since I moved to the area a few years back. Quality service and positively memorable experiences every time. I personally order the steak most times I come in, although the entire menu looks exquisite and I've tried a handful of different things on there at least once by now. Extraordinary atmosphere in the bar and restaurant focused areas. Tables and seats are always kept so clean, even immediately between guests on the busiest nights. The hosts and servers work hard and value what they do here. I can tell they truly do care about their customers, which is important and does not go unnoticed. Good service, but I ordered the walleye, and it was so fishy tasting that it was inedible. I didn't complain because a family friend was treating us to dinner, and I didn't want to upset him. My family came here for dinner before we headed out to Bentleyville. We decided to have an early dinner and got to the restaurant around 3:30 pm and were immediately seated. Décor and atmosphere are reminiscent of a Green Mill or Granite City with a little more up north and north shore flair. The menu had a lot of dishes that sound tempting but I decided to go with their award winning Manhattan Reuben Melt with Waffle Fries. My wife went with their Chicken Pot Pie. The rest of the group ordered burgers. Prices were very reasonable for the amount of food that you get. Kid's meals were also priced well at $6 with an entrée, drink, and side included. My Reuben was very good. The portion size is excellent and the side of fries was big. Their corned beef is made in house and you can tell; big meaty portions that are not sliced but in shredded chunks that melt in your mouth. The waffle fries come with a zesty dip and are very good. My wife's pot pie was a comfort food classic and spot on. The winner of her dish though was the included cornbread. Encrusted in sugar and served with whipped cinnamon butter, so good. The burgers were big and meaty and stacked high with an assortment of condiments. Service was spot on and our waitress was quick and efficient with our order and paying for our meal. We had a good time and will definitely be returning to this location when we are back in Proctor. read more

We ordered a $150 catered Thanksgiving dinner from this place. WORST FOOD EVER!! The turkey was so overlooked and dried out we were surprised it hadn't turned to dust. The (ha ha) stuffing was what looked to be a couple of boxes of Stove Top dumped in a pan. Problem was they forgot to add any liquid to it so all it was, was dry bread crumbs. The "coleslaw" was some purple cabbage with cranberries in it. To make it more gross, they hadn't bothered with any type of dressing on it! The mashed potatoes tasted like they were made with sour milk. The only half way decent thing was the corn out of a can. We were staying at a nearby hotel. It was close and they gave us a coupon so let's try it out! Our service was outstanding from start to finish. Our waiter and also the manager made us feel welcome with the full attention they gave us. There is plenty of seating as well as a separate bar area. Our table started with the Pub Pretzels as well as the Wisconsin Cheese Curds. The menu states that they are lightly seasoned but the pretzels are absurdly overly seasoned. I had to wipe off all of the salt in the first place to take a bite. Their cheese dipping sauce that accompanied also did not excite me. It's in need of a makeover with more flavor. The Cheese Curds were about on par with the pub pretzels. The cheese was cubed and it wasn't a good quality cheese. Most of the pretzels and cheese curds were left alone. I really expected better from a midwest state for this appetizer. I ordered the Blackened Fish tacos. They were stuffed with summer slaw, cilantro sour cream and cherry tomatoes. Thankfully this dish was quite tasty. The blackened fish had a great flavor combined with all of the other ingredients. A side of rice & bean casserole is served with the tacos. I would pass on this and try to get a different side. My husband ordered a burger which was way overcooked. He never sends anything back to the kitchen so he ate it anyway. It's just weird when the waiter asks if you want pink in the middle but they don't give it to you. Oh well. If you have time to head into Duluth, I would pick a restaurant there and skip this place. This is a good restaurant off an AmericInn. Let that sink in for a minute. It's in a great building that fits right into the northern Minnesota woods. The inside is well-designed and spacious. I've been here a couple of times recently and more several years ago. My food recommendation is to stick to the basics. While the menu is large, some of the more interesting items on it are just okay. Given the location and regular clientele, I think they would do better with a smaller menu, but hey, I am not a restaurateur, and there is a reason for that (maybe a lot of reasons)! All of the appetizers I've tried here are solid. Most recently the mozzarella crostini are a good choice as they are not too heavy and are tame enough for most palates. The crostini are served with a good amount of spinach and drizzled lightly with a balsamic dressing, so you can get a little bit of vegetable in with this one, too. Adding a house salad to your meal is worth it. The salad is chockfull of vegetables. It's served with a dry crostini, instead of croutons, and a roll. If you are eating a full meal, you don't need the roll. It's okay, but not always worth the extra carbs! The balsamic dressing is a perfect choice. It's not as tart as some, but it's also not overly sweet. When it comes to entrees, this is where my recommendation to stick to the basics comes. I love a melange of flavors and textures, sweet and savory, hot and sour, bitter, cooling, spicy, you get the picture. I also love short ribs. I was so disappointed. The meat was tender, but the sauce was so thick and so sweet, that it just didn't give justice to the meat. It was served on top of a pile a mashed potatoes that were okay in both texture and flavor. There was also some sliced daikon that added flavor and texture. Normally, I would rave about a dish like this, but while the presentation was good visually, the mix of flavors and textures was not great. That said my companion loved her traditional steak, and I have enjoyed several burgers, salads, and bar fare here. Bar service is good from mixed drinks to beer and wine. Waitstaff can be hit or miss. The restaurant is large and when it is not very busy, they seem to spend a lot of time covering the whole place. read more

We stopped in for lunch on the way back into the cities. Ate at the Proctor location. 1 of 3 locations. We got some appetizers:the onion rings and bulldog bites. Both very good! They onion rings weren't greasy and were so good. The bulldog bites were nice size chunks of sirloin and were cooked to medium rare at our request. We had amazing and quick service. For our lunch entrees we got the Thai Chicken Tender Melt (sauce on the side) waffle fries and seasoned sour cream and the lobster & shrimp flatbread. Again food was delicious and hot. There was no signage to inform us that the dining room was closed so we stood in the lobby for a few minutes before we were told this information. That should have been our first clue that the customer service was going to be sub-par for the night. While our waitress visited our table 3 times before we ordered, we were never told that there was no salad due to a recall on lettuce and the only potato options were sweet potato based or waffle fries. When she took our order and informed us of these limitations, it delayed our ordering process. Steak medallions ordered medium came out well done, soup was without the delicious cornbread side and substituting Brussels sprouts for the limited potato options cost us an extra $4. We were here for a special birthday we ordered like normal simple food but we did have 7 people but there was only like 1 more family it took 1 hour to get are food they said it was because are waiter put the order by the tiller instead of were it was spouse to go so we finally got are food and the fires were cold they weren't even warm so it took 15 min to get the fires then they were good wen we were done we got a cake then it had hair in it they got us a new cake it was fine then we got are bill he told us he gave us a discount $9.39 for a $70 bill so we were ready to pay but he never came back so we had to go up to the bar and pay. Lately have only gotten takeout because of restrictions. The food is always suboptimal/missing portions compared with the one in Duluth on London road. Have ordered the meatloaf twice recently and both times it was burnt and dry. While visiting Duluth for the University of Minnesota-Duluth commencement on May 6th 2017, I had a celebratory drink in the bar with my nephew Clark who had just graduated. Our favorite gin and tonic, tall, with extra lime. Later, I had a quiet dinner with Maddie as my server. She was very friendly and helpful, checking back often to see if I was missing anything, I had a creamy bowl of tomato basil soup, accompanied by a unique sweet cornbread muffin with cinnamon butter. Then a tasty "Old Man Martini" for dessert. Vanilla ice cream in a martini glass with Baileys Irish Cream poured over it. Got take out from the Proctor location two nights ago. After waiting for the hostess to finish flirting with two firemen ahead of me and then bring me the wrong order, I got our food. The Swedish meatballs were tasteless, the Pasta Santini tasted vaguely of fish and appeared to be primarily congealed cheese, and the Chicken quesadilla was overwhelmed by the barbecue sauce. The asparagus was pedestrian, and the only thing that approached tasting good were the Brussels Sprouts. We won't go back any time soon, and if we ever do go back, we won't be reordering any of the dishes we had this time. read more
