We were in recently with a large group for a birthday dinner. We had a variety of appetizers and they were enjoyable! For dinner I had a turkey sandwich on cranberry bread which was good, not great. My husband had a burger the Crazy George. I had the Vikings Margarita which was called that because it was purple and it was delicious! This place needs work, first of all "immediate seating" means find a random dirty table then wait more than 30 minutes for a server to walk over but everytime a server walks by they say "I'll be with you sorry it's busy." Then you see the same server refilling drinks for large tables and talking with large tables. Then the bartender has to come by and take a drink order, which we order waters while we look at the menus finally brought to us. The water is HORRIBLE it's disgusting well water that tastes like a dirty rain boot. Then the same bartender comes by to get our food orders but he had to ask if a server has actually seen us yet and apologizing for the wait. He takes our orders and now as I'm writing the review I've waited for the food for over 30 minutes. Ridiculous place with horrible service, food and dirty atmosphere. First time back in many years, we had lunch. Nice surroundings, very disappointing lunch. I ordered the Patty Melt w/ a buffalo patty, a $4 uncharge, a $20 sandwich. First noticed the cook forgot the "grilled" onions, fine, waitress brought paper cup of onions that were prepackaged, certainly not grilled on the grill. First taste and it's like biting a hockey puck. Way overcooked, like it was forgotten on the grill and slapped together w/o the onions. My family was happy w/ their sandwiches so there's that but I won't be coming back. There are many other restaurants where the meals are consistent. read more

This place has always been an awesome establishment for a delightful meal and great ambiance. Now they have upgraded the entrance to make it easier for us wheelchair bound people to have good access to their dining area. It was ok before but so much better now! This was my first time here and I've lived in this area for 60+ years. Everything about this place was excellent. Our waitress was personable the atmosphere was great not loud and could have a conversation with one another. But the best part was the food. Steak bruschetta , chicken wild rice soup, burger topped with shaved brisket, ribeye steak all were excellent. They also served a fresh homemade roll with the cup of soup that was delicious. They have a wide variety of items to choose from on their menu as well. I will definitely be coming back to try this place again. If you're in the area you have to check it out. read more

I went here last year and had the prime rib sandwich, doc holiday, I t was one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. Went back today and ordered the doc holiday it had thinly sliced beef that was supposed to be prime rib but it tasted like dried out roast beef. My wife got only one slice of dried out roast beef. We complained but waitress couldn't do anything about it. We got the bill and we were changed 15 for sea food burrito we didn't get. We wanted to set down on the only opened table on the deck, a waitress said it was reserved for a party but no signs saying it reserved. The only thing I can recommend is the French fries, and the Long Island tea. Please bring back the prime rib sandwich. read more

Decent food. One in our party had best veggie burger ever. Another said the chicken was a little dry. Staff was great, but check total was incorrect. All things considered it's a great place to stop for a bite on the way into Duluth or back to Minneapolis. read more

We just camped here this weekend. Great owners. Clean campsites and they have super clean port a potties if you need them. Close to Duluth to visit the city but quiet at night. We didn't eat at the restaurant this time but we have eaten there before. read more

No sewer hook up, but there's a dump station on site. Cool bar and grounds too. Variety of different areas to choose from, and love that it's right off the state trail! I am torn writing this review! SO TORN! (this review is for the campsite only) We were looking for a last minute campsite online (state parks were booked PER USUAL) and stumbled upon this place. Actually, i was previously aware of its existence, but i digress. So i booked a tent only site online (no hookups) and i thought it weird that we didnt get to choose our own campsite, so i figured i would just request a nice secluded spot when we get there...WELLL we got there and i went to check in and the lady at the desk automatically assigned us a site. she was very kind and there was an older dude sitting behind me that offered to take us to our site. i declined and said we can figure it out ourselves. Very nice people. We got site T19 i think...which is situated on the corner of a road and a paved trail, but not near any other campsite. the closest campsite was about 30 meters away behind some trees, so that was nice. the site itself was on a slight incline with one somewhat level spot for our tent. the was a small fire pit that was built into the ground. We were really counting on the fire pit to have a little grilling grate built into the side, but alas, there was not. We made little foil pouches of food and ate and went to bed. This is when things took a turn for the worse. About an hour after we went to bed (11pm-ish) we heard a large group of drunk people walking past (we were right off the path) us, presumably to get to the restaurant/bar. The sign stated quiet hours were after 11pm but it seems as if this isn't enforced. We didn't really mind at all.........................until the second night.......we were sleeping (again, around the same time) when we hear a LOUDER more obnoxious group of people walking past. This time we could hear them coming from quite a distance. I considered yelling out 'SHUT THE F UP!" but you never know with drunk people. It would have been 10 against one. Not good odds-and if you know me, you know I AM A GAMBLING MAN. So they walked past and things were quiet again.......................UNTIL LATER.............WHEN THEY CAME BACK louder than before. This time we could hear a dude puking his guts out. I'm like to myself, "BRUH...SERIOUSLY?" so yeah, we were pretty annoyed at this point. eventually things quieted down and we slept. That was our main gripe with this establishment. Showers/bathrooms were very clean and maintained. .50 cents for about 5 mins of water in the showers. The campgrounds and sports facilities were meticulously maintained as well. We were up at 6-7am and could see workers trimming the grass and picking up trash, etc. In conclusion, if you prefer a more woodsy camping area, this is not the place for you. Stick with the state parks. If you don't mind loud drunks at night, its worth checking out if you have an RV and a group of friends. read more

The Buffalo House is I. A beautiful location just south of Duluth MN. They have a restaurant, bar, camping and sports fields. I have only been there for the bar and the restaurant. When the weather is nice, they have a huge multi-level deck that overlooks the sports fields and the rolling hills...very nice views. The waitstaff in both the bar and the restaurant are very friendly, helpful, efficient and welcoming. We had a big group of 14 and the staff handled our group beautifully; the waitress was very organized and got all of orders correct. The food was tasty and an interesting mix of menu items: burgers, pasta, Mexican, salads and comfort foods so everyone was able to find something of interest. I used to come here consistently and loved their food. However, the last few times, it has failed to impress me. One time, we went there to eat, and we waited almost an hour to get our food. They have a good breakfast selection. I do enjoy their country fried steak. I also used to love their prime ribs, but the last time I had it, the meat cut wasn't to par. I love this restaurant. Wait staff had masks on and respectful. We stop here, typically after riding our bikes on Munger trail. Just had the Quesadilla's with chicken and they were outstanding. The tortilla shells were fried, crispy, and so good. The salsa was also good with a little "kick". Tap beer really cold and we like to sit outside. Wait staff is very good and attentive. The only critical feed back I would give is to shut the radio music off outside or turn it way down as the loud radio commercials are irritating. Campground: The site was huge and quite beautiful but it's really close to the freeway and train so it's loud! They sold us wet wood where most campsites keep their wood inside and really dry it was everything we could do to get it to smoke. Finally had to give up and run to Menards for dry wood. That ruined the experience a little for us. The site was mostly dirt instead of grass so if it rains or has rained you'll get pretty muddy. read more

We stayed in the campground here. The only thing that would have made our experience better would have been to have full hookups rather than just water and electric. It was fairly quiet but you could somewhat hear the traffic from Highway 35 and there was an occasional train that went by the campground. We ate at the restaurant and our sirloin steaks were very good and the red potatoes were delicious. The only thing that they need to add to the menu is desserts. read more

Other reviews are correct the quality and service has gone down hill. I liked this place in 2014 a lot. In 2017 not so much. We were served stale tortilla chips. Server gave excuses said they "make them at the beginning of the week and sometimes by Sunday they're stale" no apology no discount. Asked for medium rare and steak was cooked through. Baked potato wasn't cooked well. Paid $1.99 to have about 20 tiny slices of mushroom added to steak. read more
