Did not detect any bbq "pit" flavor (smoky) in the shaved beef on sandwich. It becomes bbq apparently due to bbq sauce mixed with chopped cabbage, they're calling "coleslaw." Supposed to be onion tangles on it. They were non-existent. There was, however a large piece of thick cut crispy bacon on the sandwich which didn't taste bad, however, it wasn't listed on the menu... so perhaps they provided my sandwich with bacon for lack of onion tangles. Upon making a trip to restroom in restaurant, walked by a station that had same large bacon pieces in a prep station open to air. There were many other items in this area, including beef sticks, assumably meant to be station to assemble drinks such as bloody Mary's. The unfortunate thing was... flies were landing freely on all open food items in this open area. Gross. Thought about that while eating the bacon on my sandwich. Apart from light bbq flavoring in coleslaw, the shaved beef had very little flavor apart from slightly detecting salt. Didn't really notice the cheddar cheese either in flavor profile when taking bites. All that said... this beef seemed to be the exact stuff other restaurants use for French Dip Sandwich. Although meal didn't taste bad, it was lacking flavor that would have been put to much better use with the beef used in a French Dip with the right sort of soft bread and some tasty au jus. Sandwich would have been worlds better in this writer's opinion. Onion rings were excellent. Glad to have upgraded to them as the French fries included with wife's meal were not the crispy kind. They looked like standard French fries, but were soft in the middle like steak fries. To those who like non-crispy soft French fries... you'll likely love them. I do not know of anyone who prefers mushy fries to crisp ones. Will likely try this place again one day. Really hope they take measures to keep insects from landing on the beef sticks, bacon, and other items in that area.

We arrived just 15 minutes after opening and there were already a ton of people milling about. Luckily the main restaurant didn't have too much of a line and soon we had our milkshake in hand. Large Honeyberry Shake ($7.29) - Having eaten fresh honeyberries just the previous day, we knew that the flavor profile would be similar to blueberry, but more tangy and with some varieties having a somewhat of a tannic quality. This one tastes a little different, possibly transformed from being frozen and then blended with ice cream. It's pleasantly tart which is great on top of the sweetness from the ice cream. It's balanced and not too sweet. There are a lot of blended honeyberry pieces in the syrup that settle on the bottom of the cup. The overall texture is smooth and thick, tough to suck up the straw at first but softens later on for fuller sips. (5/5) Gordy's Hi Hat seems like one of those classic America, must visit attractions, on every road trip through Minnesota. Safe to say the fresh rolls, chicken wild rice soup make a wonderful meal, the Cobb Salad is huge and loaded. When we arrived a bit after 7PM, we had quite some trouble finding parking and ended up having to park a couple of blocks away after circling for 20 minutes. Walking in, the place wasn't too busy, perhaps 50% capacity. We were interested in ordering the fried cheese curds, but the server told us they weren't battered in house, so we passed on them. Smoked Fish Salad (Market Price, $18.99) - This is a pretty salad - all ingredients are arranged in rows along the dish. Mixing things together is a bit of a pain, but I appreciate the dressing on the side to add to preference. The dressing is an interesting blend of mayo and other ingredients, perhaps BBQ sauce, that make it slightly tangy and very sweet. There's an undertone of smokiness throughout, which tastes somewhat like liquid smoke rather than the dressing actually being smoked. It is on the sweeter side of dressings. Other than greens, there's a row of wild rice, dark and snappy, completely broken cultivated rice. There's also a bit of house smoked trout, nice and smoky. (4/5) Classic Wild Rice Burger ($16.99) - This is one of the tallest burgers I've seen in quite a while, mostly due to the inclusion of fresh vegetables including onion and tomato, and alfalfa sprouts. For some reason instead of using larger tomatoes, they use small roma tomatoes, including three small slices. They also used red onion that's chopped into a variety of different shapes instead of whole slices. It's really strange - I guess this saves on cost? Unfortunately smaller pieces means things fall out while eating. The patty is larger than the bun. It has plenty of broken wild rice bits giving some additional crunch and that signature wild rice taste. It's charred on the griddle well and it keeps its structure, not falling apart or becoming mushy at any point. I love how it's distinctively a rice burger and doesn't try to be a meat substitute. Two slices of American cheese are melted on top that gives some fattiness to the dish. The bun is toasted without butter and there's a flavorful garlic mayo spread on the top. It would be nice if they had also applied the sauce to the bottom bun as I found the patty to not have enough moisture or fat incorporated. The burger comes with some thin commercial fries. There aren't any issues with the level of fry and they are otherwise unremarkable. (4/5) Fitger's Brewhouse serves some solid good old fashioned Midwestern American food. Not much else to say.
