The beer selection was a little smaller than we expected, but there was still a nice variety of styles, so everyone in our group found something they enjoyed. They also have a full bar with specialty cocktails. The food menu was surprisingly large with lots of unique and fun options to try. The only small downside was that the Brussels sprouts were still a little undercooked for our taste, but everything else was excellent and more than made up for it. Excellent brisket, fish n chips, and build your own burger! The garlic aioli and IPA mustard sauces were definitely memorable. This is a popular place on a Friday evening. The weather was great and the place was full up indoors and outdoors. We had two in our party, which was an advantage. We got on the waiting list and were told it'd be about a 30 minute wait. By golly, we know from the time stamps on the texts that it was 32 minutes total. We were seated outside, and service was fast and smooth from that point. We had the pretzel sticks appetizer, which was fantastic. Very soft, hot pretzels, and the queso was thick and loaded with flavor. My husband had the Canal Park red lager and really enjoyed it. Pretty solid burgers, consistently well made. I come in once every month or two. This time around, I had the smash burger. It had good flavor however a little on the small side, that being said, although it is already a double patty you can order a double- double. I just might do that next time. Friends and I met here, had a blast out on the patio. Drank many beer, had several appetizers it was all good. We sat around the self service fire pit, and had to step inside for beers. No problem, the bartenders at the main bar were great. We had kids, and they whipped up some excellent Shirley temples. Staff is very friendly, and try to accommodate all requests amicably. We came back to enjoy some beers on the balcony and the beer list is mostly IPA's, which I don't care for. Slim pickings for beer this time, I hope next time is better. The brewery is located right off the pathway, and you have a wonderful view of the lake. The beer is always fresh and well made. There is a beer for all: malty, hoppy, sour, crisp/clean. On a recent girls trip, we were excited to arrive in Duluth and headed to Canal Park Brewing to start the trip off right. We were seated outside since it was the first available spot on a busy Friday night. Everything was fine until the rain started. We were able to move inside and were told we would be put at the top of those waiting for tables. Our server, a younger woman, was very quiet and didn't let the host know about us moving, so we handled it ourselves. The person taking names was helpful and accommodating. We had given our order outside when the rain began, but the server didn't submit it because we wanted to make sure we had a table first. Once inside, the server was a bit confused and had to go back and forth a few times to understand that we had already given out order. I had also asked about something a nearby table had, and she wasn't sure (and didn't try to find out), only to find out later it was something I would have ordered which was a bummer. The bartender sent the wrong drink at first but quickly offered the correct one. I was fine with the first drink, so I just went with it. Another friend didn't like the puree in the mango seltzer, and the bartender happily replaced it. It's obviously that they cater to the tourist with a large menu that has so many options, which is never a good sign. We decided to go somewhere else for dinner, just had a beer and an app. The Hazy Lakeside IPA was disappointing and barely had any flavor. Not a great relaxing ambiance if you're looking for somewhere you can enjoy a nice dinner. But it's good for families and large groups. If you're with a large group of people and need to accommodate a large range of diets/preferences this is a solid choice. The positive- the server was great! A nice place - clean and not super loud. The pretzels and beer cheese dip were awesome- The ok- the dip seampler was mostly great. The guac was kind of bland. The hummus was yum and the cheesy dip was so tasty. The "crudités" were simply carrots and celery. My friend's burger was good apparently and the portabella burger I had was ok. The mushrooms were good but I feel like there was some meat leakage onto either it or the bun. I'm vegetarian and have not had meat for years. I had an off taste on that bottom bun. Love this place. When we're in canal park this is our favorite place to eat. I've tried several items on the menu and like all of them. The service is usually fast and good. We typically always eat on the patio because my son likes climbing in the rocks while we wait for our food. This time I wasn't as happy with a couple of the items or the service so I took a star off. The birria beef nachos were yummy and had a good amount of meat on them. The beer cheese soup was lacking the flavor of beer (yes I know the alcohol gets cooked out) that I tasted in other beer cheese soups so that was disappointing. It actually had more of a bacon flavor so if you like bacon cheese soup I recommend it. The Buffalo blue Mac and cheese with chicken was not well put together. All the blue cheese was in the middle on top but we didn't know that until we got almost half way through it. It would have been nice to not have put the chicken on top of it so we could see it or mix it in before serving it. The service was incredibly slow this time. We waited at least 10 minutes to meet our server and another 20 to order then at least 40 minutes for our food. It was Sunday on Labor Day weekend so I cut them some slack. Lightly breaded and fried just right, with a creamy chipotle sauce that added the perfect kick. For the main course, the fish and chips were a standout. The Lake Superior whitefish was super fresh, with a crispy craft beer batter that didn't overpower the fish. Paired with Northcoaster fries and their house-made tartar sauce--classic, comforting, and done right. Ended on a high note with the Swedish cream--a chilled vanilla bean custard topped with lingonberry sauce and seasonal fruit. Silky, rich, and not too sweet. Bonus: it's gluten-friendly! Of course, no brewery visit is complete without trying the beer. We had the Foggy Jack Porter--smooth with hints of chocolate and coffee--and the award-winning Nut Hatchet Brown Ale, which lived up to the hype. This is going to be sort of a double review. I'm in the area for work, so me and some coworkers popped in for some food and drinks. Our bartender was eager to answer all of our questions, and got us set up with all the beer flights we wanted and continued serving that same energy as we decided to start ordering single pour drinks. I still love this place. We drove way out of our way to come to Duluth specifically to come to Canal Park Brewing for lunch this weekend. We got the northern lights power bowl and it was fantastic. Expect a punch of flavor. Ours was overdressed so it was like a bowl of soup of dressing, but honestly I'm not complaining because it was fantastic. The chicken was amazing, and the greens were fresh. We also got a side of fries, side salad and pretzels. We stopped here for some beer and dinner while in Duluth. The brewery is located right on the water by the lakeside walking path. There were lots of seating outdoors too and even had some bags games, giant Jenga set up to play. I had the fish and chips dinner with locally sourced Lake Superior whitefish which was super delicious. I usually don't like fish and chips too much especially with cod but this one was my all time favorite ! Plenty of good draft beer options brewed onsite. I really liked the hatchet nut brown ale.
