I saw this place on the local news. Known for their burgers and fish fry on Friday, right up my alley! It had been on my radar and when we 'staycayed' in Duluth, I was looking forward to checking it out. It is at the top of Duluth, far from all things touristy. This is a place where the locals go! When we arrived I noticed the old beer endorsing sign and the restaurant looks like it was converted from a house. We nabbed a table right away. I'm glad we got there when we did because this small restaurant started to fill up and there was a wait not long after we arrived. I knew right away that I wanted the fish fry and my kids ordered burgers. They had a good local beer selection, too. Everyone walked away with a clean plate. It was a good experience and I felt like we discovered a gem. It was far from Grandma's and that was a good thing. When I'm traveling I love finding local joints.

I feel bad rating this place. To start off it is super clean and nicely decorated. We loved it walking in. Staff was super pleasant and helpful. Menu was great! We ordered onion rings for an app, I ordered the burger with Boursin cheese on it and husband ordered the fried cod. It took awhile but our burger and fish came out. I was confused as to why the onion rings didn't come out and the waitress said the staff forgot to make them. I asked if we could just cancel them as we already had our main meal. She said they were already being made so we couldn't. That is fine, but then comp them. It isn't our fault your staff didn't make them. Burger wasn't really impressive at all. I opened it and they forgot the cheese. I gave up and just seasoned it with salt and pepper as it seemed really really bland. Again, the waitress apologized for the kitchen staff. Husbands fish was kinda funny. We shop Costco and often get the beer battered cod in the freezer section.....that is exactly what came out! I cracked up. It's a little place, of course they are going to buy it frozen..but it was still funny. He tried to act like he wasn't disappointed, but you could totally tell he was. Would I recommend this place given our visit? No. Other people seem to really love it, so maybe we just hit it on a bad Saturday. Who knows. My rating is for my visit of course.

Discovered this establishment on a Man vs Food episode so had to try while I was in town. The bar/restaurant is bright and clean. The bartender recommended a couple items and we were very impressed. I had the mushroom Swiss juicy Lucy with fries and my partner had the catfish filets. The juicy lucy was so amazing!!! I will definitely be back!!!!

Same expensive burger as most places in town. Nothing fancy or memorable. Just not worth the price for a mediocre burger

And two loaves of bread- the cheese curd and the rosemary onion in the one pound option. (They have a two pound and it's huge!) We enjoyed the bread toasted with butter and for avocado toast during the week. They offered to slice the rosemary onion bread but not the cheese curd- there's something about the cheese curd that they said they don't slice it. I can't remember. But it's fine/ we sliced our own. The pecan rolls and the cinnamon rolls looked amazing but I'm more of a savory gal. The shop was super cute. They have a sourdough class coming up. They have coffees and couches. Bathrooms for customers. Some merchandise for sale. They even have a monthly club where you can pick up or have your items delivered to you! Wow! I wish I lived in the area just for this bakery. The restaurant overlooks the lake, making for such a beautiful and relaxing setting. The ambiance is absolutely charming, and I loved the serveware, it gave the whole meal a lovely high tea feel. The food was on the pricey side, but every single thing we ordered was absolutely delicious. They also had a display of freshly baked goods at the front, so we picked up a few treats to take on the road. Those were just as amazing as our meal! The staff was incredibly welcoming and sweet, and I loved all the thoughtful little touches throughout the restaurant. One of my favorites was the guestbook they invite visitors to sign before leaving. It's details like that that make a place feel extra special. I would absolutely recommend stopping here if you're driving the North Shore. Beautiful views, delicious food, and such a warm, memorable experience.
