I cant say that I've been to every fish fry in Duluth, but I have tried most. Breeze Inn has (hands down) the best fish fry around Duluth in my opinion. Just be prepared to wait a little while (an hour or so) to get in. read more

A bit off the beaten path, but if you need a break from Downtown this spot is quite charming. Don't let the outside fool you, the inside is clean and updated. The beer selection is very good with plenty of microbrews. The burgers are good (according to my husband) but the Friday fish basket was bland and very oily. read more

I ended up at this place because I heard the rave about the burgers. I must say the food is worth the hype! My burger of choice was the Minnesota hot with a side of house chips,which was flavorful and well portioned. In addition to that I had the hot wings which were surprisingly satisfying especially since I prefer boneless but only bone in was available. I had my family and friends accompany me and I can't even remember what they ate because they inhaled their food. I definitely would return to test out other items on the menu. read more

I was on a yearly vacation with the guys I grew up with. We each take a turn planning the trip, but each year my job is to find an AYCE Friday Night Fish Fry. This one had a menu besides the Fish Fry, plus what looked like a decent selection of tap beers. Not all of us eat the Fish Fry. Camping just South of Duluth, we pile into our cars, & make the 30 minute drive to the Breeze Inn. It's out there, off the beaten path, that's for sure. Pulling up, it was very busy. Cars parked along side of the road & damn near every parking spot in their two small parking lots were taken. I think we got the last two on the upper lot. Walking into the place, was a whoa moment. Yes. Busy. Wow. Packed. I looked out for a host stand. I found a list on a little ledge that had names & party numbers on it, so I waited by it till somebody came on by. It wasn't more than a couple of minutes that a lady stopped & asked if I had a name on the list yet. I told her no & threw us down for a table of 6. She said it would be a while, which was already known. Our group found a single chair at the bar which we all huddled around & proceeded to place an order for drinks. The beer selection is awesome here. For being off the beaten path, they have beers you wouldn't have guessed they'd have. Surly Furious? Yep. Shit. Half the bars in Saint Paul don't have that! If I counted right, 20 beers on tap? The micro bottle section was just as impressive. Plus, they have off sale. Drinking my South Shore Nut Brown Ale, I take in the place. While Up North, it doesn't have the feelings of the Great Northwoods. Somewhat, but not really. This place could work anywhere. In downtown small town America, to right off of Rice Street in Saint Paul. Basic bar décor. Nothing fancy pants about the place. 15 minutes into our wait, a table of 7 gets seated, which opens up plenty of seating for us at the bar. Settling in for a second beer, now in a chair, I go with Lake Superior Oatmeal Stout. Several in our party hadn't heard of Surly before, and were amazed by it. Looks like some might be planning a trip on up to the Cities for a Surly Brewery tour. We got room at our house. Please do! Took an hour to get our table & we were ready for it. The host lady kept us up to date a couple of times to let us know where we were in the order. That was nice. Cassidy was our server & dropped off menus for us to look at. They have Jucy Lucy's? That's why they have a Matt's Bar bumper sticker behind the bar. Basic bar menu. Burgers, sandwiches & apps. After a bit, Cassidy came back & asked us if we all were having the Fish Fry. We said no & she got a bit flustered, telling us to, "wait then". She came back a minute later with a order pad & we began rattling off our choices. In all, 4 Fish Fry's, 2 Jucy Lucy's, & 2 clam chowders. The Fish Fry comes standard with Beer Battered deep fried Pollack, French Fries, & Coleslaw. No options. The seating area is just an extension of the bar. There isn't anything separating the two. There was a couple of TVs with sports channels on. One of which was showing a MMA fight. I was one of the two waiting for clam chowder, which seemed to take forever. When it came, about 15 minutes after we ordered, it was in a huge red mug cup with a crusty piece of bread. It was freakin' awesome. Buttery, milky, soupy broth. With lots of clams and potatoes. The bread soaked up the broth & turned it into a moist flavorful bite. Great Chowder. The fish came 15 minutes after the chowder. Placed in front of me was a basket with 5 full pieces of super-golden fried fish, a pile of fresh cut French fries & a large plastic ramekin of creamy coleslaw. There also was a small plastic ramekin of tartar. No lemon. I was amazed at the pile of fish. The color was deep amber golden hue. Like it was on the verge of being burned, but it wasn't cooked like that. It was that they use a beer batter that gives it that deep rich color. Gawd. Breaking apart the first fillet, steam puffed out, and exposed the white flaky Pollack inside. Biting into it was Nirvana. This is the flavor, this is the fish. The crust was crunchy, yet moist. Full of Beer Batter flavor. One might get drunk on this batter.(j/k) The Pollack was the best quality. Perfect in every sense of Beer Battered Pollack. The fries were great. I mean, how can fresh cut fries be wrong? A little skin left on. A little crunch. Salty. Mm. The coleslaw was perfection in a cup. Creamy, sweet, crunchy. Nothing bad about it. It even had a little purple in it for color. Cassidy came back pretty quick, asking us if we wanted more fish to put in an order now, as for it takes a while to cook. I wasn't sure with 5 pieces if I would take more, but all the others put an order in for more. I just asked for lemon. I'm glad I didn't order any extra, because I was done after my 5 pieces. My bill was just over 18 bucks after tax. $8.95 for the AYCE Friday Night Fish Fry. I'm amazed at the price. A steal of a deal. read more

I have been here a number of times (at least 6) and although I love the burgers and fries, I am constantly hoping they will figure out a way to speed up the service. It seems as if 45 min is the magic number to get your meal. I don't know if they grind the meat for each order it comes in, or if they are just very disorganized in the kitchen. It does not matter if I am there with two people, four people or six people, the wait is the same. The juicy lucy stuffed burgers are great, as are the non-stuffed burgers. Having to wait so long for the food is what always makes me hesitate going back. read more

Went for the Friday night fish fry which was excellent, best we've had in the area. The cole slaw was just as good. Very good beer selection, we'll be back to try the hamburgers. Great to find a new restaurant to add to our list. The wait staff was friendly, one thing to remember, get there early on Fridays, they can be busy. read more

The food is excellent and my wife wanted to make sure I highlighted the sweet potato fries. My wife and I frequent the bar and love the simple atmosphere. The wait staff can't be beat anywhere. My husband and I sought an out-of-town dining experience at the Breeze Inn on Jean Duluth Road. I love Reuben sandwiches and make a good one myself, but needed a saurkraut fix and had heard about the Reuben at the out-of-the-way restaurant/bar. Our server was April and I did order a Surly Furious...and the Reuben. The beer was very "hoppy"...(.I'm a Shiner Bach girl...)but when the sandwich arrived, I was very "happy." It was made with swrilled two-tone bread, toasted nicely...corned beef was shaved so I avoided the need to sharpen my teeth...saurkraut...swiss cheese...and....and...gee, I bet you are thinking thousand island dresssing? Nope...the sauce was a sriracha base (the bottle with t he rooster). I was disappointed at first, but by my second or thrid bite, I became a believer...Isn't thousand island dressing a bit too sweet?.Kate's sauce was sweet too, but it had a kick to it. We have been here a couple of times. The burgers are always great and the Oktoberfest specials were yummy. The last time we were there all the tables were taken and there not three stools together at the bar. Except we thought there might be because there was an seemingly abandoned drink on the bar. A waitress swooping by informs us in a snarky manner that there is someone sitting there. As we stand there pondering plan c--we were there because our neighborhood Thai restaurant was closed--the bartender stepped up to the plate. She asked a group to move down one stool to make room for us. So we were able to enjoy once again their delicious burgers and excellent selection of draft beers. read more
