This BBQ spot in Duluth has become a North Shore family tradition! We venture up from the West Metro 2-3 times a year and always make a point to stop at OMC. We continue to have enjoyable experience here and certainly have our go to favorites on the menu, like the BBQ bowl. This time I deviated course a little bit and tried the loaded Mac and Cheese. The beef brisket seemed a bit dryer than normal, but since I like to smother the meat in any of the 4 amazing sauces anyways I still thoroughly enjoyed it. Rising prices, and the continued addition of hidden fees on the bill make the value feel less compelling, but I feel that the food and friendly service still make it worth it! read more

Are you looking for BBQ on the North Shore!? This is BY FAR the best BBQ in Minnesota! So when you are in Duluth, make sure to stop! There is a little bit of parking but I find it's hard to find parking and normally just do a "to go" order. This can be done online! The service was fairly quick on the Saturday I went. Everything I ordered was on my bag and they did include silverware. This place does have a cool patio with fire pits. The sweet smokey smell throughout the place will have your mouth watering! The food: THE MUST GET ITEMS: The brisket! Holy moly! It is soooooooo good!!! Best I have ever had! Also the sweet potato's with the candied pecans oh my goodness yum! The ribs here are also BEYOND YUMMY!! They changed the size of their sauces. You can get plenty of sauce but they come in small containers... not a fan. I wish they were bigger again. Solid bbq joint in Duluth! Spacious and well cleaned restaurant with authentic and rustic smokehouse feel. Ordered and shared the OMC Smokehouse plate ($37) substituting the ribs with pulled pork. I enjoyed all the meats but believe the brisket was the best with the honey bbq sauce! All of the meat was moist and tender. I think the portions of pork and beef were pretty slim for the value but that's America these days I suppose. For sides, we tried the OMC beans and the Mac n cheese. The beans had some spice and great flavor. The Mac n cheese was bland and unremarkable but balanced the beans' heat. Service was outstanding! I was only in town for 2 nights and in my second night I decided to not eat at the hotel. This place was 5 mins away so I gave it a shot. What a gem. It wasn't busy so the hostess not only walked me to the bar but also made my drink. I totally enjoyed the pork rinds so I could try all the bbq sauce they offer. I was handed off to a young sweet bartender who was very enthusiastic about everything I wanted to order. I settled on the Pit Master sandwich. It was amazing and satisfied my bbq craving. OMG for OMC! We live in the twin cities so this is only our second time here but wish we could come more often! Service is friendly and attentive. Great outdoor waiting area. We came during Happy Hour on a Monday and ordered the wings and sliders from the HH menu. Chicken wings were so crispy and flavorful. Both came with a side of fries. WOW! I know why this BBQ spot has won awards and is a must stop when in Duluth. From the cool alley style patio seating, laid back interior and the wonderful staff- I cannot wait come back. It was our first time, and our server took the time to explain the sauces they have and that using the pork rinds was a great "app" and way to sample the sauces while we wait for our meals. We ordered the Smoked OMC plate with ribs, brisket, smoked chicken and added on the sides of Poblano creamed corn and collard greens. Everything was so tasty and well-seasoned. This is carnivore's heaven right here! All the smoked meat you imagined eating is right in front of you! Pork rind came with 4 different sauces which were all lovely on its own. They have local beer and cider available. Our server was extremely helpful in figuring out which one to order. Hubby settled on the haystack burger which smoked brisket -- loved all the smoked flavors in there. The hush puppies complemented the heavy meat well. OMC has never disappointed me. Every time I'm in town I try to get a meal here. I order the same thing each visit, not because I don't like the other items, but because I love the pulled pork so much I just have to get it again and again. What really sets OMC apart from other BBQ places is their dry rub, their garlic aioli and the pork rinds. I always have to ask for extra. While it can be difficult to get a table depending on the day/time of visit, it's worth the wait. On my latest visit we sat outside and I was able to have my dog with me. Our server was also the bartender but she didn't skip a beat - she really took care of us and made sure to fully explain the menu, the different sauce options, and pulled out a few of her personal faves which we really appreciated! Parking was a bit of a pain but my husband and I came during the lunch time and were able to get seated right away. Love the idea of giving pork rinds to test out the unique BBQ sauces on! They were also a really great snack while we waited but there really wasn't much to wait for. I ordered the ribs and wings plate which came with three full wings (drum + wing) and then a couple ribs. The ribs were a bit overdone in my opinion but the wings, which I got in buffalo sauce, were really tasty! They were smoked so slightly different from what you may be used to as there is no breading but you can taste the Smokey flavor which is a nice add to the zestiness of the buffalo. Service was prompt and friendly -- our server was knowledgeable about both the food and drink menus. We came on a Thursday evening with a group of five, and our meals came out quicker than expected. My wife ordered the Chicken Sammy -- great flavor and perfectly crispy on the outside while still juicy inside (though a bit thick for smaller mouths!). The fries were crisp and paired nicely with the sauces provided. I thought the food overall was solid. This place is just amazing! Our server was the best -- gave us the whole rundown on their varying sauces to sample with their delicious pork rinds! The Alabama White is the absolute and addictingly best (just the right amount of horseradish)! I ordered their country fried ribs which I've never had anything like before or since -- so good! My sister and I went to lunch at OMC smokehouse on Friday, September 19, 2025. We were in the area and wanted to get a nice lunch. I read the reviews online and thought this would be a great place. The ambience of the place was great. Our host that seated us was very nice. Our server Sarah was absolutely wonderful. But the food was not so great. I ordered the appetizers - pork belly lettuce wraps and the beef fat fries. My sister ordered the burrito bowl and the barbecue wings appetizer. While the pork belly had a great flavor, it was the consistency of leather. Very dry and chewy. I did not finish eating the appetizer. I did mention this to our server Sarah. The beef, fat fries, while having wonderful flavor, were very limp and soggy. The burrito bowl, while having great flavor, the rice was nothing but mush. Again, the barbecue wings had great flavor, but were a little dry. We only ordered water for our beverages. We did bring home the extra wings and the extra beef fat fries (hoping we could crisp up the fries in an air fryer, but that didn't work out so well). My companion and I stopped in Minneapolis on our way out of town to get coffee and we so fortunately got to chatting with someone who is from Duluth and recommended this restaurant (as we were on our way there for the day). I would probably not have chosen this place on my own, but I'm so glad we went there! My salad was huge and delicious, and the brisket just melted in my mouth, it was perfect! I really want to like this place because I've read all of the reviews. I really want to, however, my experience isn't anything like anybody else else's that I can see. I ordered online and picked it up and while it was very fast, the quality of the food was horrendous. The ribs were overcooked and possibly burned. The pulled pork tasted like apple cider vinegar, which I can only assume they were trying to keep it from dry drying out, but that's all I could taste. The hush puppies resemble the donut more than they did hush puppies. The fries were soggy. The coleslaw was a bland replica of KFC, the only thing that was remotely edible was the sweet potato mash, and even that was a little over sweetened if you enjoy a good barbecue, this is not the place to go. I have been to Texas. I have been to Memphis and everywhere in between. I hope they were just having a bad night but I won't return. There are very few options in Duluth so I can see why people think it is good because there's nothing to compare it to. I wish I would've taken pictures. However I did not. We stopped in at OEM Smokehouse in Duluth and had high hopes based on the vibe and the packed house--and to be fair, the inside of the building was fantastic. Rustic, lively, and welcoming. The wings were okay but didn't really stand out, more of a 7/10. Mac and cheese and the corn muffins were both lacking in flavor--more like a 6/10 and 5/10 respectively. My wife got the Henny Penny sandwich (pulled chicken with bacon and cheese), and unfortunately, it didn't live up to expectations. The chicken had almost no flavor on its own, and it really needed barbecue sauce just to wake it up. Overall, the experience was a mix. There was a large group seated near us, so it was very loud for a small space. Once we ordered it took about 12 minutes for drinks and 30 for food. The "OMC Old Fashion" was very good. A little expensive for the size, but good enough to justify. Pit master sandwich was good not great, and the Korean bbq pork belly sandwich was definitely overcooked. The pork belly was cut so thin and dry it was truly like eating saucy jerky. Mixed with the cucumber and coleslaw, it was just not a good textural experience. The mac and cheese was great, and the fries weren't terrible. I'm probably not recommending OMC. It serves Louisiana bbq and Nashville hot chicken sandwich. The restaurant is very cozy with a full bar service. We ordered a pork rib, brisket, salad, Korean pork belly sandwich, salad, and chicaron. We ordered to go for eating on the road. The food was ready pretty quickly. We stopped in after coming out of a week trip to the BWCA. It is our tradition because it is so amazing! The chicken wings are a must. The side salads are a perfect mix of greens and veggies. I had the bama brisket salad. It was delicious. However, I did have to pull the pickles off. They were just too much and did not compliment the salad it my opinion. Too strong and over powering. We sat in the section with the kitchen and wait staff. It is not the best place to sit in my opinion. Too much traffic. Our waitress however was very attentive and friendly. First time here. The ribs were tender and falls off the bone whereas the chicken wings were too crispy and lack of flavor. The BBQ sauces were tasty and added some flavors to the ribs and chicken. When visiting Duluth from the Cities, we have typically enjoyed the Duluth Grill, but menu changes left us looking for options. We saw the connection with OMC Smokehouse, so we decided to try it and enjoyed a delightful lunch with world class service from "Luke." While not inexpensive, the food certainly lived up to the lofty standards set by the Duluth Grill. We enjoyed the roast brisket and the ribs. We thought the blue cheese potato salad was out of this world goodness and quite unique. The baked beans side were also outstanding, with lots of goodies incorporated besides beans. The meats include a variety of sauces that were all delicious. We were supplied with a generous serving of "crisps," that we slathered sauce on. We greatly appreciated the old fashioned amenity of having a snack item on the table to sate immediate hunger pangs, reminiscent of the old relish and bread trays that were once ubiquitous. We later found out that the delicious snack was fried pork rind. Perhaps an additional item would be appreciated. The rustic ambience seemed authentic, and we found it very comfortable. Awesome BBQ place! Our family was in town for a lake vacation and and stopped on a Thurs night around 6PM and we were able to get a table outside (which was a covered patio). There is no table service outside, so you just need to go inside and order at the counter and they will bring it out. They had a good selection of local brews and some interesting cocktails as well.
