    Tap list and bar snacks

Hoops is a gem of a brewery in Canal Park. The beer is always on point, and there's lots of space to hang out. On my last visit, I built my own flight. You pay by the glass, so you can try as many beers as you'd like! I tried the wood-smoked wheat, chili pepper ale, cranfest, and beermosa. They were all great, but the chili pepper was my favorite. It had a nice, spicy aftertaste. They don't have food (aside from pretzels and other bar snacks), but you can order outside food to enjoy with your drinks.

We stopped in here for beer. Beer ME! Ah, a cold one! I had their pale ale. It was a bit on the hoppy side but the flavors were well balanced. The spidering on the glass tells me that the brewers took extra steps to make their beer a great beer. It is. I wish I lived close to this place, if I did everyone who works here would know my name.

A beautiful and charming space in a grand old warehouse along the Duluth Harbor Basin, we stumbled upon Hoops Brewing Company's tap room while staying in Duluth for a winter birding trip. They have an extensive craft beer list of ales, lagers and stouts. We e joyed great service - I love that you can grab a menu and take a seat and your server comes to you, as opposed to having to wait at the bar. And they encourage you to bring in outside food - or try their excellent pretzels with beer cheese dipping sauce. This family- friendly space is a great spot to hang out.

Closed except for takeout only during the pandemic. Walk in the Canal Park building and check it out. They have Chili beers made with Hatch Green Chilis (the best in all the world! This is a brewery that we had not heard about, but we were happy to discover them in Canal Park of Duluth!

We've long been fans of Dave Hoops and were excited to try his new venture out. We were not disappointed. Visually, the place is stunning. We have been to a lot of taprooms and this one is beautiful. It's large but it's warm and inviting at the same time. The wooden decor is really fitting, and I could not stop ogling at the huge thick wooden beams holding the whole place up. There is the requisite glass window that shows off the brewing tanks and fancy beer equipment. I will say it was slightly confusing about whether you needed to wait to be seated or could just sit anywhere. There is table service, which was a nice and unexpected surprise. There are games to play and a nice, relaxed vibe. And of course, the beer is delicious. Take a crowler or two home.

Had a good beer here, and they had lots of space for playing board games. Not much else to say!

I really enjoyed their Fancy beer, so refreshing. Plus the place has good ambiance. Still waiting for the barrel aged beers.

Overheard a couple of people be dissatisfied with their drink ($6.50 for quick pour on a White Russian). Had one cider in a tall boy from the twin cities for $7. Wife also had a flat cola. It was busy, in the setting of one bartender. She was nice. Doesn't really provide table service, moreso going to the bar to order and pick stuff up. There's a menu online. This was NOT what we saw when we showed up. They had a burger, fish and chips, pulled pork sliders, Caesar wrap, and appetizers. Based on the online menu and the outdoor patio, we were expecting more of a pub. Wisconsin cheese curds were okay.... didn't find much nostalgia from my Wisconsin childhood; some were more breading than cheese. The sauce with them were good though! Tater kegs better than expected. Chicken Caesar Wrap had some pretty dang tasty chips from whatever bag they came. The ratios were high in lettuce, less so of chicken and Parmesan

It was too well done for my taste but at least it wasn't dry. I added mushrooms and cheddar to mine and that helped. The fries were good but the onion rings were excellent. They make their onion rings with big, meaty pieces of onion and battered just right. It was a very frigid, blustery day in Duluth so I ordered hot chocolate and that was excellent too. Sent it back. The second steak? Also overcooked. Then came the moment that sealed it: The chef marched to our table with a photo of a steak on his phone, insisting maybe the "lighting" made it look overcooked. Meanwhile, my steak -- in the exact same lighting -- was perfectly medium‑rare. The entire dining room stopped to watch this arrogant performance. It was humiliating and completely uncalled for. The third attempt showed up in a to‑go box, and when my friend opened it at home, it was practically raw (see attached picture). Spite from the chef? Three failed steaks, zero accountability, and a public lecture from the chef. After two decades of choosing this restaurant for special occasions, we're done.
