My family rented space here as it was walking distance to the dock following a boat ride as hoops could accommodate a large group. The beer I tried was solid. The service on the other hand was not great. A few family members asked for wine and they were met with a rude response from the female bartender "You know you reserved space at a brewery" and how "brewery's serve beer". My family members quickly shared they understood and she sarcastically went on and on about it as they tried to downplay everything and quickly leave the situation. Hoops is a gem of a brewery in Canal Park. The beer is always on point, and there's lots of space to hang out. On my last visit, I built my own flight. You pay by the glass, so you can try as many beers as you'd like! I tried the wood-smoked wheat, chili pepper ale, cranfest, and beermosa. They were all great, but the chili pepper was my favorite. It had a nice, spicy aftertaste. They don't have food (aside from pretzels and other bar snacks), but you can order outside food to enjoy with your drinks. read more

We stopped in here for beer. Beer ME! Ah, a cold one! I had their pale ale. It was a bit on the hoppy side but the flavors were well balanced. The spidering on the glass tells me that the brewers took extra steps to make their beer a great beer. It is. Very nice folks with a great selection of beers, However keep in mind the bar DOES NOT SERVE FOOD. There is a guy next door in the bar, that will sell you a hot dog, or prepared sandwich for about 15$. Better yet bring real food with you and enjoy the wonderful beer selection. read more

My family wanted to stop here after a family event - my cousin visits often. It's a happening place! Small Town, cozy feel - the kids like to hang out here too. I'm not much of a drinker lately so I was happy to see they had kombucha on tap. I could look like I was drinking but not actually...! They also had root beer on tap but I stuck with the buch. TVs galore and right across from a hotel lobby so it can get busy. There's a "cafe" connected to them that has live local musical so that was a treat! read more

We did rehearsal dinner here with catered food. Ingrid took great care of us and communication was top notch. We had a little snafu on the area we reserved a few days before the event but Ingrid took care of everything and made sure it was all perfect. We had great servers that took care of our group. Everyone loved our featured beverages...the peach and pear wheat and the rootbeer. We returned and played cribbage and visited with friends in the main area after our event. We stopped in after driving through Bentleyville. They were only open for takeout. I ordered and purchased through the door from the hallway. The nice young lady that sold me the beer also gave me a really good overview of the brewery. I could see the inside through the windows. It looks like a really cool place to go after the restrictions go away. I got a few crowlers. I have already tried the chili pepper beer. It was really quite peppery but very tasty. I can't wait to try the pineapple pepper. Another place that I hope to get to after the restrictions are lifted. read more

A beautiful and charming space in a grand old warehouse along the Duluth Harbor Basin, we stumbled upon Hoops Brewing Company's tap room while staying in Duluth for a winter birding trip. They have an extensive craft beer list of ales, lagers and stouts. We e joyed great service - I love that you can grab a menu and take a seat and your server comes to you, as opposed to having to wait at the bar. And they encourage you to bring in outside food - or try their excellent pretzels with beer cheese dipping sauce. This family- friendly space is a great spot to hang out. read more

First of all, we love Pale Ales, and they are not easy to come by in the beer world. We were here visiting family in Superior, and stopped in for a quick beer before meeting up with everyone. I had No.15 and my husband had No.10, the Extra Pale Ale. They both were superb. The folks around us had a variety of their beers and all seemed super happy as well. I'm so glad we found this place. I had never heard of Hoops Brewing until we walked past it. I was pleasantly surprised! The interior is really cool, with ping pong tables and lots of seating. You can bring your own food, and on the day we were there, there was a local restaurant serving tacos. I had the Stone Cold Light, and it was one of the best craft beers I've ever tried. We've long been fans of Dave Hoops and were excited to try his new venture out. We were not disappointed. Visually, the place is stunning. We have been to a lot of taprooms and this one is beautiful. It's large but it's warm and inviting at the same time. The wooden decor is really fitting, and I could not stop ogling at the huge thick wooden beams holding the whole place up. There is the requisite glass window that shows off the brewing tanks and fancy beer equipment. I will say it was slightly confusing about whether you needed to wait to be seated or could just sit anywhere. There is table service, which was a nice and unexpected surprise. There are games to play and a nice, relaxed vibe. And of course, the beer is delicious. Take a crowler or two home. read more

Good beer, not pet friendly! It's a great place for beer and friends, we really enjoyed the music at the bar next door, completely open space except a low wall that divides The Ripple bar from Hoops. Very odd, they need to combine some how. Or just make Hoops dog friendly and I will walk through The Ripple bar just like everyone else. I had to sit on one side of the wall(larger beer sel) while my wife and 2 dogs sat on the other side. We sat face to face but in 2 totally different establishments. One dog friendly the other not. We just love to have our kids (dogs) with us. The other kids grew up. read more

Yes.. stop in here. Service by Sue was super chill and fun. Brews great. Place can fill up with a blink of and eye. They have board games to play. Our group of 5 started reading the game cards to the game "you might be a Red Neck if___" and that kept us all laughing. A ping pong table also available to use. They have several menus available to view from local food establishments for take out or delivery- you will not go hungry if you wish to eat. read more

Hmmm, maybe we went to Hoops on an off day? I found this brewery to feel like a dark hotel bar vs. a brewery. The ambiance felt off and the darkness inside the guts of the hotel didn't vibe with us (personal opinion, of course!). Neither one of us liked our beer either. For us, this was simply a stop on our 2022 MN Hop Passport for BOGO and we don't plan to go back, unfortunately! Too many other good beer/cider places in Duluth. read more

The husband and I were here in early April. They had just opened in July 2017 so it was our first time here. It was a great experience! The brewery is HUGE! Not sure if it is dog friendly or not but there is a ton of space to spread out. They also have a ping pong table and a large variety of board games. The tables are all communal and have numbers on them so if you choose to order food from the multiple restaurants that offer delivery they will know exactly where to deliver your ordered snacks/meals. They offer a wide variety of menus on the wall that help you choose what to pick. We stopped by early on a Saturday afternoon so the customer service was top notch. Cannot vouch for how it is during a busy time. Not quite sure what the husband ordered (he liked it) but I tried the taster (5 oz) of the Raspberry Wheat and it was amazing. For a gal that does not normally like beer (at all) I would order this again in a flash. I recommend you check them out the next time you are in Canal Park! read more

Brand new craft brewery in canal park that everyone should check out. It's different than anything else Canal Park has to offer. The perfect place for craft beer lovers who don't want to venture to Blacklist or Bent Paddle. The tap room is very spacious with beer hall style tables, a long bar with plenty of seats, and a merchandise counter. The tap room even has TVs if you need to catch a sporting event. I tried the summer wheat and my fiancé tried the EPA. Both flavorful, light beers. I was impressed by the number of beer styles they had even though they are so new. The only thing that would make this place better would be a patio off the taproom to enjoy the harbor view. read more

For a taproom that has been open for only about 10 weeks, they seem to have things operating quite smoothly. The beers are respectable, with the availability of growlers and crowlers for just about any of their offerings san the nitro beers. They also do not do beer flights which, is a little disappointing but, not a huge issue. There is a limited amount of gnoshables available, and I believe you can bring in food. One thing I would not order is the beef sticks that they sell behind the bar...they are terrible. trust me on this one. read more

Was looking for a spot to grab a beer on a hot day and walked into Hoops. It's important to note that Hoops is connected to a hotel. When I walked in there is lots of tables and a long bar to enjoy your brew at. There were two TVs above the bar. They had a large selection of beers. After debating my options, I went with a raspberry wheat beer which was delicious. The reason I gave it 4 stars was there was not much of a menu and no description of the beers aside from the title. A very good brewery with a lot of potential!! Some of the criticisms of this place so far are pretty ridiculous. "They don't do samples" ....go to Costco if you want samples. "No labels for my samplers." It's 4. Not that hard to remember. Make up a mnemonic device for them... that sounds fun. So my review. Decor: gorgeous. Perfect layout for a busy beer scene in Duluth. Love all of the exposed wood. Beer selection: a little bit of everything for everyone. Try them out. If you want a damn sample, buy a taster, support your local beer community, and if you don't like it, it's only $2.50 --- you'll be fine. I had the lilac honey ale on nitro. Nice subtle tones on the lilac. Hint of sweetness from the honey. Smooooooooth from the nitro. Service: spot on. Beertender is very cheery, patient and helpful with our questions.
