We could not have picked a better venue for our October 2018 wedding. Hoops Brewing Co had it all- a staff that was professional, easy to work with and went out of their way to make sure we had the best wedding ever. We had a party of 54 people- it was perfect for the venue space which is off to the left when you walk in door. Anne is the event coordinator and she is phenomenal. Most of our communication was done through email as I live in the twin cities, but I was able to visit enough through the planning process so it never posed a problem. She always returned my emails/texts quickly and I loved that she was able to send me pictures and diagrams of table layouts so planning wasn't last minute. Anne is just a fantastic person in general, she always made us feel welcome and she was almost as excited as we were for the wedding! She helped make the wedding that much more special, intimate and fun. The event fee is meeting a minimum tab at the bar and whatever you don't meet you can buy gift cards or merchandise- worked out perfect for us since we love to visit Duluth a couple times a year. Knowing that some of our guests are not beer drinkers Hoops was a great place because they have the Ripple Bar (wine & spirits). Post-ceremony/dinner many of our guests hung out at the half wall so beer and spirit drinkers could mingle- we informed our guest of the separation and it ended up working out well and was not a problem; we had an awesome time. We had a server assigned to our party, Chasity- I've seriously never had that good of a server before. She is quite possibly the BEST server I've had in my life and that's not adulation. To my knowledge no one had an empty glass; she was polite, personable and super-efficient- she was truly exceptional. We also saw a lot of Sue, another server, and she helped up get the room ready and set-up for everyone- she was so warm and friendly and I appreciated how the staff made our guests feel so welcome. One of the highlights for myself and my husband was the opportunity to meet Dave Hoops- we had heard about him through talking to bartenders around the town the past few years and he is legendary to us. I remember meeting him for the first time and he is so genuine and welcoming and you frequently see him at the brewery, hands on and in the trenches with his staff. I like Hoops Brewing. It's really just a simple equation of good service, plenty of seating, great selection of brews (30 taps), multiple TVs, and decent prices. I think I tried almost all of their beers and I lean towards the Scottish Ale as my favorite. Though, it's a tough choice. They don't offer flights like most breweries but what they do offer are 'tasters'. Basically, the tasters are 3oz individual glasses which make for a great way to sample different beers without being locked into a whole flight. Reasonably priced at $2.50. Nice sports bar. Very spacey, lots of screens and plenty of room. They also have a designated non alcohol area Seemed like moms with kids were in here. Service was great. Plenty of taps in here. Enjoyed the Brown ale( just missed the nitro brown!) and the Apple ale. Really liked the Strawberry Rhubarb Hefeweizen. Took a crowler to go, to my kids hockey game. I really liked that they allow food from outside establishments, as they dont have a kitchen. So we, brought food from Northern Waters Smokehaus down the street into here. What I dont like about the place is that they are in a building like a several story shopping mall and paid parking is a block away, yet if you have some sort of pass you can park in the buildings parking lot. Parking a block away is about a buck an hour which is fine but dont understand the "pass" thing. To me , that would chase business away. So for that, they only get 4 stars. But a worthy stop for sure as they have great beer and many choices. read more

While staying in Canal Park, we wander about and came across Hoops Brewery. Going inside is a treat in its self. A old safe in the hallway and the brewery is huge with a nice long bar with loads of tables. The beer list is extensive so take time to read about each one. I ordered a Chili Pepper Ale #325, which was absolutely delicious . About a quarter of the way through my beer a bartender asked how I liked it, "love it" I said. She mentioned I might want to mix it up a bit if I'd like, of course, why not. Another bartender topped it off with the Guava Wheat #129. WOW! What a perfect combination of spice and fruit! If you go, ask for the mix of the chili pepper ale and guava wheat, really cool mix! Great beers, service and vibe!!! They don't serve food but you can bring food in or have it delivered. read more

Hoops Brewing is a top notch establishment. I recommend this brewery to anyone looking for great service, a fun atmosphere, and amazing beer. This was my first experience with Hoops as my best friend held her wedding reception in their space. It was great working with Hoops team throughout the whole wedding process. Ann was always available for questions and made it easy to check in as the night went on. Our party was lucky to have Sadie as our waitress for the night. Both staff members couldn't have done anything more and truly made the experience more enjoyable. Overall, the reception went off without a hitch and we owe a large amount of that to Hoops who were always there to help before we even needed to ask. The beer was absolutely delicious! Many times I had heard from guests how impressed they were with the brewery it was a common theme throughout the evening. Thank you Hoops for being an amazing venue! One of my favorite breweries in Duluth! This place opened up just a few months ago. The place is bright, open and lots of seating options. Their trademark green color that's lit behind the bar is also pretty cool and makes a nice touch inside. They have sooo many beers on tap and they all are pretty good! The only downside is they don't do flights of beer--they do samples for $2,50. I usually like to get a flight of beer to try at each brewery, so this was kind of a bummer, but not the worst thing in the world. Plus, you can still grab a small sample to taste test without having to pay. The decor in here is so warming and modern--just wish they had an outdoor patio, too! Maybe some day? I came here with a large bridal party. The space is open and the location is great but there is a really weird segregation policy. If you want a mixed drink you have to stay off to the side behind a half door...so the 2 non beer drinkers who wanted a mixed drink couldn't sit with the group that we came in with. I really wanted to like this place, since I love Fitger's Brewhouse. Somehow the quality was lost in the move to the new location. I went the first day they opened, which was underwhelming. (No beer menu/descriptions) Figured I'd go back and give them some time to work out the kinks. (Got beer menus) The beers are very basic with some strange numbering system that no one seems to understand. I went back to try the lilac infused honey (#2), but even that has no flavor. The service is ok, but staff lets kids run around etc. Also, there is no food here, well actually there are some crappy snacks. Just really has no personality. The website is not current- the blog is 6 months old. I'm not sure where to find the current beer list. I've checked the website and facebook. Disappointing. read more

Excellent space in the Canal Park District. Best beer in the area. My wife and I traveled through Duluth this summer on our way up the scenic shore of Lake Superior (celebrating our one year wedding anniversary). We are more familiar with the breweries of Northeast Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula. But during our time in Duluth we were pleasantly surprised by the number and high quality of breweries. However, the best beer is brewed by Hoops. Everything we sampled was amazing. We look forward to a return trip to the area and we are excited to revisit the Hoops' team. read more

In fact, it seems that coming off the leash has helped him shine. As a self-proclaimed craft beer snob, I'm pickier than the average Joe when it comes to breweries. But Hoops' proximity to the main drag in Canal, an impressive variety of styles, and an vibe that appropriately pays homage to Duluth's rich history while remaining modern (USB outlets along the front of the bar!!) has dropped Hoops onto my short list of favorite taprooms. The wide variety of styles offers something for everyone, and it's always rotating...so I could give recommendations, but chances are by the time you walk through the door it will have changed dramatically. I know they just opened. I had 5-star expectations and am giving 3 because of the "no samples" policy as well as that there's no beer that really sets them apart from other breweries. Don't get me wrong, the beer is good, the service is solid, and the space is beautiful. We were told they don't sample beer because it's impossible to know if you like a beer from one taste. I wholeheartedly disagree. This is the only place I've ever been to that does not sample. It makes no sense and I hope they re-evaluate this policy. But don't let this review hold you back. You should go there because it's good to support local/legacy brewmasters. I'll absolutely visit next time I'm in town. *apparently they now have samples available! Great move, Hoops! Not only is the beer exceptional, the service is first class! We stopped in on a Friday around lunch time on our way up to the north shore and we were not disappointed. The beers were/are the best in Duluth (we've had 'em all) We had flights and tried most of the beers on tap. Most of them were quite flavorful/not watery! Also, not only was the bartender knowledgeable, he was kind. I wanted to purchase a particular sticker, but they were out. He offered to mail one to me when they got a new batch in since I don't live in the area. I gave him my address. Weeks passed and I forgot about it. Today I was stoked to find 2 stickers in the mail today! I highly recommend this brewery! Completely worth the detour! read more

Go to ANY other Brewery in the area. I've been here 3 times now, and the beer is well below average. A brewery that won't let you taste their beer without paying them $2.50 for each taste. Service was very slow all 3 visits. Watched bartenders wander around while we sat at the bar for awhile without beers multiple times. The bar back talked to us more than the bartenders and he couldn't serve us. The beer isn't as good as the service. read more

They knock it out of the park with their Amber, and I didn't dare start to explore all the IPAs... I had to work the next day! We heard about this place through a friend's recommendation. Right off the bat, it's a gorgeous brewery. Lots of seating, knowledgeable and friendly employees. I love that you can order beer by the size. My boyfriend and I split 9 5oz so we could try as many as we could. I wasn't disappointed by a single one. The menu has great variety which I love. It's a shame I don't live in Duluth because I'd probably be there every day. read more
