First time visit for some late night dinner. I liked how this place was close to our hotel so it was a short walk. The ambiance here is nice, clean and close to the lake. The service was friendly and they were petty fast as well. The food is pretty good for the price with large portions. Absolutely fell in love with this spot and can't wait to go back next time we are in town. Delicious beer (they were sold out of the one we wanted but there were several other selections), delicious food, cool atmosphere. Tried poutine for the first time and this spoiled me. It had real bacon pieces and crumbled blue cheese along with all the other suspects. Everything tasted crisp and fresh. The beer cheese soup was delicious. I would come back just for that. I tried the Woodland Strawberry Blonde Ale. It was light and crisp with just a hint of berry. I loved it because it was not overly fruity. Our wait was pretty short, our food was delicious, and I loved all the beers I tried. The gift store was cute by the entrance of the restaurant and there was plenty of seating by there while we waited for our table. The bar was full, but I didn't mind getting my drink before our table was ready. I got a turkey club with fries that was pretty filling. The lingonberry mayo was a great addition. My wife got an appetizer of baked glazed Brussel sprouts that were really nice, and a bit spicy! My favorite beer had to be the peach sour. I also tried the light ale(?) This is creamy and satisfying to the tastebuds for sure! *Minnesota mule-I wanted something that didn't weight me down and I have never tried a Minnesota mule before, this was light and refreshing and just enough umph to give you the happies. *Mac and cheese with grilled chicken breast-this was my husbands dish and he liked it a lot as it was a mild cheese flavor with the white cheddar and them being able to top it with some protein hit the spot for him. I also dug in and had to try it and would order that for myself. We had 3 other people with us and sampled a few different beers they had and not one negative comment! I stopped at CPB to do some remote work one afternoon and I can say I had a blast. The ambiance of a brewery on the lake really provided an amazing backdrop to get some work done in peace. The service was amazing. My Server Seth went above and beyond to provide an excellent experience. Not only was he doing research on his own to help me resolve a wifi issue, something totally outside his preview, but he was also the perfect amount of attentive and informative as well. I had the Northern Lights Power bowl while I was here and loved that as well. It had a great taste while keeping me as healthy as I can expect myself to be under the circumstances. The bread was an Artisan bread and toasted just right. The Aioli spread gave it a good kick and the fries were well seasoned. We tried their Northcoaster light ale and the light and crisp taste was a great match. I tried the Ahi tuna burger and again it was grilled just right and dressed with a good Cole slaw. I tried their sweet potato fries and thought they were overdone BUT I was wrong! The seasonings deceived me and I enjoyed the sweet and savory taste of my fries. I tried their Seltzer water with Blackberry and it to was crisp and light. Service by Kaitlyn B was helpful and her help in deciding what to drink with our food made it so much easier. I came here back in June during a work trip. There was a little longer wait time, because the place was packed. We were offered seats outside to enjoy the wonderful lake view, but we opted for inside seats to avoid the chilly breeze. We had 7 in our group but the waitress made sure each of us was taken care of. I ended up ordering the Sweet & Spicy Chicken Wrap. I normally don't get wraps but this one was worth changing it up. It had a nice blend of sweet and spicy which added to the overall taste. I don't know when I'll ever be back to Duluth, but if I get the chance, I will make sure to return here. One of my favorite breweries in Duluth. They're beer and food options are amazing and I go every time I'm passing through Duluth or skiing at Spirit Mountain for the day. Today I had the Birria Beef Short Rib tacos. It's gluten free and tastes delicious! Literally mouthwatering! I definitely think the portion sizes could be larger, especially for the cost. I ate my entire plate and was still hungry. I was impressed with the gluten free options for their entrees as well as their desserts. The waitress made sure to let me know the kitchen isn't celiac friendly which is important to discuss with any customers with food allergies or sensitivities. Came here with a date last week. We had heard that this place had great food. After issues with our phones not loading the menu in the hotel, we said screw it and just made a dash to the brewery instead. We were told it would be an hour wait or so, and it was packed. We opted to wait and go sit near the water to pass the time. Ten minutes later we get a text that our table is ready. We walk back in and are seated. We order our drinks and a pretzel as an appetizer. The cheese was pretty good with the pretzel. The mustard was spicy (coming from someone who likes spicy foods - it had some kick and was delicious). The pretzel was heavily salted, and I'm not personally a fan of as much salt as we had on ours, but we ate it and scrubbed some off. I'm unsure if it was the heat, or if the brewery doesn't put ice in the water, but it was 90+ degrees and neither of our waters showed up with ice. Which was really what we wanted with the heat index. We asked for additional water with ice, and were brought a jar with just water. For my entree I wanted to order a steak melt, but I was told they just had ran out of ingredients to make it. Bummer. I decided on the fish and chips instead, and was told that it would be a bit of a wait because the kitchen was having issues. Yikes. I asked if a burger would be quicker and he said yes, so we went with the mango habanero burger with sweet potatoes. My date had the Mac and cheese with pork. She said the pork was moist but could have really used some type of BBQ sauce or some component to bring them together. My burger was okay, at best. I devoured it because I was starving, but the sweet potato fries were the only real part I enjoyed. Not sure that I would put this in my list of "must visit" or "great food" lists that I have visited in Duluth yet.... but it did have a great location and a nice atmosphere in the bar. read more

We did take out originally since we were driving from the cities and we're getting hungry and didn't wanna wait around for our food. It was easy to order online and when we picked it up at our designated time it was ready to go! We decided to sit on the patio to eat since we've been in the car for two hours driving and we had our dog with. The staff was great and you can order drinks inside if you decide to sit outside. I got the fish tacos and it was delicious! I loved the tar tar sauce they gave me! It went well with the fish tacos! And I got the cheese curds which were a little spicy but very delicious! We wanted to sit down and eat and relax but we also had our dog so we googled dog friendly restaurants and found this nice place. The Cuban sandwich was so good and cheesy and had a hint of sweetness to it! The nachos were perfect and I love how generous they were with the beef. The beer cheese soup absolutely hit the spot especially since it was 40 degrees out! It's self serve when you sit outside but that was so problem for us at all. My friend and I stopped here while staying in Duluth for a girl's weekend. I've heard really great things about this place and was very excited to try it. But when we arrived I was less than stoked. When we arrived you were sent to a line as all orders are taken at the bar, but then seating is a free for all. (When we ordered there were only 2 tables open and a line of people behind us.) This created a situation of people ordering and then wandering around trying to find a place to sit. If you ordered anything alcoholic you had to stand at the bar to receive it but all food came packaged completely to go whether you were staying or going to your table. The waste created in this was really saddening. I understand that everyone is just trying to make it right now, but as someone who understands what it takes to run a restaurant, I do know the cost involved in using so much togo product vs. Labor costs so I had a hard time wrapping my brain around it. Not to mention the waste to the planet.. so much plastic. On the flip side of this, the drinks and food were really quite good so I will definitely give them another try when they are back to normal service. read more

We ordered food from Canal Park Brewing Company for pickup. The wait ended up being quite a lot longer than we were originally told. Upon arriving at the restaurant we were given a timeframe of 10 minutes and we didn't get our food until almost 40 minutes after we got there. Nobody was drinking or eating inside the brewery, but the number of people outside on the patio and waiting to check in raised concerns for me. People were seated close together and it looked like every table was full. No one wearing masks waiting in line (upwards of 15-20 people at a time clumped together in front of the brewery). I personally would not feel safe eating/drinking there so if you're concerned about masking and social distancing measures I would avoid Canal Park Brewery for the time being. As for the food, I would say the dishes were a solid mediocre. We ordered a Juicy Lucy and the Mac and Cheese. We had requested the Juicy Lucy to be cooked as well done as possible and it was pretty much raw on the inside. I know Juicy Lucy's need to be cooked a certain way, but I have been to plenty of restaurants that can cook a Juicy Lucy to have very little or no pink in the meat. The cheese was pretty firm, not oozy and runny like you'd expect from a (good) Juicy Lucy. It also lacked flavor. We had requested no sauce because again, a (good) Juicy Lucy gets its flavor from all the cheese. The patty had no seasoning that I could taste (thankfully we had a side of garlic mayo we were able to add to give it some more flavor). The Mac and Cheese was okay, also a little bland. The best part of the meal was the house-made chips that came with the burger. I had high hopes for this place based on other reviews and recommendations from people local to the area. Unfortunately this just fell really flat. I can't vouch for the beer because we didn't stay and drink (and wouldn't until things are safer since everyone is pretty clumped together). But based on the experience today, my impression of the food is that it was bland and average. read more

Still a fan of this place. covid19 has opened extensive outdoor seating! This is certainly a bonus during our summer visit as it was a nice evening and we were shaded by the building. The scenery wasn't very good because the lake walk is under construction. It does provide interesting construction equipment watching. Once this is finished the view will be good as it overlooks Lake Superior. The wait was not bad and the wait staff was very prompt but required a member of our party to go inside to order. The orders were delivered to the table in brown paper bags in styroform containers. Soda still has refills but you have to get them yourself, however, we were lucky to have a great manager that kept our drinks full. They have an extremely limited menu so I ordered a double swiss cheese burger and FF. We also ordered a side of chees curbs. Cheese curbs were just OK, I would pass and instead go with the onion rings I had on a prior visit. The burger had great flavor and the FF are very good. Certainly still on my MUST visit when eating on the canal. read more

What I would call a destination brewpub. Canal Park Brewing Company is located in the heart of Canal Park in Duluth with absolutely stunning views of Lake Superior from both inside the restaurant and their amazing patio. While I enjoy the food I feel the beer is just sub par. Drawing business and being successful is almost a guarantee given the location just as long as they put out a good meal and drinkable beer. The craft beer scene in Duluth has become fierce since Canal Park opened but they still dominate for food as far as I'm concerned. We started with a couple appetizers Lobster Cream Cheeae Puffs: 6/10 While I enjoyed these I was confused by them. The word puff lead me to believe I would be getting a pastry of sorts and not a wanton/ragoon Duck Poutine: 6/10 Loved the fresh cut fries and the generous portion of duck. I would have preferred fresh curds over deep fried Smokehouse Burger: 8/10 Nice size patty, thick bacon and a wonder smoked flavor. This would be a 10 if prepared medium well like I ordered and not well. Tuna Poke Bowl: 8/10 Grear size portion. Lots of Tuna. Great sauce. A light and refreshing balance dish that fills you up nice. The atmosphere is your normal brewing company with plenty of conversations loudly buzzing throughout the restaurant, bar semi filled with out of towners (dead give away when they are all rocking Moorehead Hockey gear) and upbeat moving staff. We settled in two sodas and cheese curds to kick off our evening. They were good and we liked them but beer batter ...in a brewery...would make them even better. Plus cheese curds are cheese curds. Main courses ummmm if you get a chance or need some comfort food get the stuffed meatloaf. It's almost like a meatloaf stuffed sausage. Fricken AMAZING! I got the Lobster Shrimp Salad sandwich. The salad was reallllllly good only fall was the toast it came on...not the right combo. Maybe lightly toast and something smaller. I'd love to meet the person that can fit this monster in their mouth. Our server was a joy, even though Nate (my better half) was a little hangry, she still rocked it!!!
