Stopped into Lotus Pepper for lunch the other day and loved it! I had the Bahn Mi and my partner had the vermicelli bowl. Both were packed with flavor. The bread was absolutely perfect on the Bahn Mi- pleasantry crispy on the outside but nice and soft on the inside. We both also got their house made lime soda, which was fantastic. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful. Tastefully decorated and a very inviting atmosphere. The service was great too- ordering was a breeze and our food came out in a flash. Some quality food on the convenience of Hope St. The Lemongrass Chicken vermicelli bowl was quite refreshing with the fresh herbs and fragrant chicken, while the tofu banh mi had a nice piece of tofu inside a crispy banh mi baguette. My only point of critique is I wish there was more food for their price point. I am used to paying $6-8 for a banh mi in CA and having more vermicelli noodles in a $15 bowl. The exterior of the building is white bricks and very easy to spot. The inside is clean with quick grab and go items that you can either take out or sit down and eat. They have a variety of Banh Mi (Vietnamese sandwiches), noodle bowls and rice dishes, apps, and drinks. Service was quick. I highly recommend the Vietnamese iced coffee. We ordered takeout from Lotus Pepper and were very pleased with the quality. The summer rolls were very fresh (and excellent peanut sauce). Spring rolls were small but tasty. I had the beef banh mi and it was enough for two meals. Bread was fresh and crunchy. Could have used a bit more spice. The noodle and rice bowls both looked good, but those in our group who had them said they should have ordered more sauce. I had a lot of expectations maybe that's why I didn't like it as I wanted to. The table was super sticky. My blouse was stick to the table and I had to pull it off from it with some force. My advice is don't put your elbows on the table. The food was okay, I think the rice was better than noodles. It is very bright and pretty inside, given a organic cafe style. Inside, the dining area is sparse and clean, and there are always plenty of napkins, forks, chop sticks, chili sauces, and water available at the counter for self-service. As far as food, I can vouch for the bowls, bahn mi, and appetizers! All are delicious. What I like about the vermicelli bowl in particular is the breadth of textures and flavors in one meal: the glass noodles are thin and chewy, while the thinly sliced carrots, cucumbers, and bean sprouts add the perfect crunch factor. Couple this with thin sliced sautéed meat, and handfuls of fresh herbs, and you simply cannot go wrong. A whole bowl is filling enough for a dinner, while remaining light enough to eat for lunch. I am so excited that Lotus Pepper now has a storefront! I have been a long time lotus pepper fan from the food truck that would sit next to Brown's campus, and I would get my lunch favorites (either the pork banh mi with chili oil or the tofu vermicelli bowl with a fried egg) once if not twice per week. I finally stopped by a week ago to the storefront and was not disappointed in the slightest! The space is clean, fresh, bright, and very modern. The owner also recognized my order and came out to say hello--I have always enjoyed how friendly the people at Lotus Pepper are! As far as the food goes, the high quality and affordable prices that I came to expect from the food truck have carried over and then some to the new location. I'm loving this new restaurant on Hope Street that took over where Lucky Kitchen used to be (ikr "used to be" - very RI thing). A young couple owns and runs it. They are coming off of great success with a food truck and now they're happily putting down some roots. This is fresh Vietnamese cuisine that is really as good as it gets around here. Highly recommend the spring rolls for fresh lite expressions of this simple dish. Vermicelli and rice bowls are wonderful with great protein pairings although I wouldn't recommend the chicken as it's a little bit dry. I stopped by Lotus Pepper on a Wednesday around lunchtime. It was not as busy as I would've expected this particular day. I ordered the yellow noodles with chicken and had to wait for about 8-10 mins. The noodles were fantastic. They come alongside some type of vinegar (I'm uncertain of the name) that I douched all over the noodles initially accidentally, but the sauce turned out to be quite good and did not interfere too much with the flavor. The one disadvantage of the dish was the chicken. I'm unsure how the chicken is prepared, I mistaken or assumed that the cooks cooked the chicken when ordered. The chicken, however, was quite lukewarm. It was not fresh whatsoever. After a few bites, I had to warm it up to even finish eating my meal. We visited this new Vietnamese restaurant on Hope St last night. The interior was a simple, clean look that had the sheen of a new restaurant. Their menu is simple. It's separated into bowls, banh mi's, and assorted appetizers. We each had a yellow noodle bowl with different proteins on top and coconut waters. Alex went with pork, and Julianna opted for beef and onions. They had a few outdoor tables which we took advantage of to enjoy a lovely, comfortable summer evening. For a Friday night the place was pretty busy, but our food arrived around 10 minutes after placing our order. The bowls were excellent, each came with a sweet, sticky duck sauce that elevated the entire dish. The noodles were cooked nicely, the pork was rich and fatty, and the variety of fresh vegetables kept the dish light. By the time we finished, we didn't feel weighed down or lethargic. If you're looking for a new Vietnamese spot, on the East Side definitely check this one out! We'll be returning to try the banh mis. read more
