Any Chinese restaurant that doesn't automatically include hot mustard and soy sauce in a takeout order ... especially when their foid is bland as shit ... deserves a 2-3 star rating. Come on ... how much does it cost you to actually throw in a tiny cup of hot mustard? I mean, who doesn't eat hot mustard with Chinese food? It used to be that Chinese food was a fast and cheap dinner ... a combo meal here is $18, after substitution. I want to know ... who the fuck has ever actually eaten a shitty chicken wing from a Chinese restaurant without substituting it out? Probably nobody. You eat fresh BBQ chicken wings at a tailgate, not from a dirty restaurant the size of a college dorm room. Of course they know any sane person with working taste buds will substitute nasty skimpy wings for something else ... so they include them in every combo meal knowing people will pony up the extra $1.50 - $2.50. A combo with 3 crab rangoon, 3 chicken fingers (substituted for wings) and an egg roll now costs almost $20. The quality here is on par with a mall food court ... which is to say, not great. Dry AF fried rice with fatty cubes of pork which have the consistency and taste of a pencil eraser. The rice was almost chewy it was so dry amd barely tasted like pencil shavings it was so bland. The crab rangoon was decent ... filled with fake cream cheese and almost no crab. If you are drunk, it's fine and filling. Nothing you couldn't throw in an air fryer from a frozen box. The chicken fingers were okay. Likeky frozen a year ago and thrown into a deep fat frier hours before you ordered and kept under a heat lamp. If you are drunk or high, you'll leave a 4/5 star review. If you are unfortunately sober when you eat this, it will remind you of the dsys you'd scrape your lawn mowing money together and splurge on Chinese food from the mall food court when you were in middle school. Overall, this is buffet food served as fresh made. The fact that everything had almost zero taste ... they better start putting hot mustard and soy sauce in orders unless that want continued 2/3 stars. Bottom line ... I was disappointed in that there were few veggies and the noodles were very soft which spoiled the texture of the pho overall. I added shrimp and received only 5 small ones. Ended up here after our original restaurant plan was extremely busy, and this was in walking distance. Walking in there was only one other person in the restaurant during a weekend lunch hour. To order, we walked up to the counter. I ordered beef Pho and also spicy wings to share with my friend. This was my first time trying pho, and I was disappointed. While the flavor of the broth was delicious, as were all the toppings, the beef in my pho didn't taste fresh. The wings were also very flavorful, but again, didn't taste as fresh as I would have liked. While they definitely have potential with their flavors, I wouldn't go back for any dishes with meat. Been here twice: first time was done-in and second time was take-out. Dine-in: I had the pho. Overall the broth was good. The meat and bean sprouts were decent. The price is on the pricey side, but they are located off of Thayer street. I went in around 11:30am, and they were still in the process of opening up, maybe that's why it look a little longer to receive my order. My colleague orders the beef noodle soup (牛肉面）and they use the skinny yellow noodles (similar to the size of spaghetti noodles). After you place your order, they'll give you a number, and you can go find yourself and seat. The interior of the place is pretty nice, they have small tables (can sit 1-2 people) or bigger tables (up to four people). Once the food is ready, the staff will bring it to your table. Take-out: I ordered online a Chicken teriyaki bowl and it was ready within 10mins (ordered on a Thursday around 11:40am). The portion size is great! You have a choice of pork fried rice or white rice, and I ordered it with pork fried rice. I personally recommend pairing the teriyaki bowl with white rice because the teriyaki sauce and pork fried rice together was too salty for my taste. I love that they serve a bed of vegetables (sliced carrots, zucchini, broccoli, and onions) over the rice, but it would've been better if the veggies were cooked for a bit longer, the onions and broccoli were on the raw side. Combo Lo Mein, Chicken Fingers and Pork Fried Rice and the chicken was so dry you couldn't bite to tear the chicken. The lo mien was tasteless and rice was bland. Also ordered CS6. Lots of quick lunch options in the area but this one provides great service, large portions and authentic flavors. We ordered the sesame chicken, house fried rice and the beef noodles. The beef noodles were like I had stepped into China. I used to have that dish once a week when I was there, and haven't found a place that does justice until I ate here. The beef was soft and super flavorful like it had been cooking all day! Price is good, and on a cold day-this is a must! We ordered veggie pho, beef pho, and the spicy wings. The pho comes with all the fixings on the side - bean sprouts, lime, mint, Sriracha, and a sweet brown sauce. The veggie pho was full of vegetables but no tofu, I didn't see tofu anywhere on the menu which would've been a nice addition for some protein. The beef pho had tasty broth but the meat itself didn't seem very fresh. Both pho's had a big serving of noodles and neither of us were able to finish. They gave us 4 forks, people. When we got home, I realized the broccoli I ordered was smothered in the garlic sauce (which I asked to not have!) I was bummed because it was $10 for this and I couldn't eat any of it...and it was too late to go back at that point. So I called and received a call back from the manager minutes later and he took it right off our bill. I am okay with a business that makes a mistake, apologizes, and takes care of it. Shows integrity and now I know that I'll definitely be back time and time again (after checking my order before leaving hehe). Everything was delicious. Way better than a lot of places I've tried. The chicken was fresh and void of that soggy/greasy feel that other places have. Spring rolls were fantastic and the crab Rangoon was stuffed. With a large green and black sign, Wong's Kitchen is pretty hard to miss. There's plenty of seating inside and the owner is very attentive. For food, I'd recommend the Steam Table. The Steam Table's inexpensive and even though it has the presentation of a Chinese buffet, the options are surprisingly fresh and tasty. On the side, I also ordered the Beef Pho ($8.95) which was slightly underwhelming considering the frozen beef and small bowl size. When I got home and opened the bag, I was surprised by the amount of food - there was SO much!!! Definitely enough broth and vegetables to last two meals. The one thing that wasn't great was they put all the vegetables together in a tiny bowl, one that was far too small to fit all of the broth. Which meant I had to find a larger bowl in my house somewhere to accommodate all of the ingredients. Once I finally got everything together, it was delicious! The broth had a slightly off flavor and some of the vegetables tasted weird, but besides that it was a great meal! Plenty of noodles which were also delicious. And, the only vegetable inside of the rice was peas. There weren't any onions or other vegetables. Also, they did not have packaged duck sauce. Apparently they make their own. And not too much to write home to. Albeit does come in a rather nice compartmented take out container. I had spare rib and chicken finger combo with veggie lomein. The veggies in the lomein were fresh and in pretty good chuncks. But the noodles lacked in flavor to me. Where I was disappointed were the 3 measly chicken fingers and what looked to be two 5" x 4" slabs of pork that were slightly cut up with the cheapest attempt. Think of when you were a kid and took the round scissors and cut little slips in the side of paper. Yeah...that's what it looked like. There were more than enough for leftovers. I had to order a small rice. The crab Rangoon tasted good and were nice and hot. The portion sizes are fine and adequate for leftovers. In the spirit of full disclosure, I am a Baby Boomer who just enjoyed a couple of manhattans so take that into consideration, but I gotta say... this Wong's place is good! We never do this but tonight we decided to try Uber Eats. Wong's beat their turnaround estimate by 15 minutes. But more impressive was that the food was too hot to eat without letting it cool a little. Bravo! The hot and sour soup was unique tasting, in a good way, with noticably better quality ingredients than elsewhere. The dumplings were near-nirvana with the skin seared to leather-hard, and the meatball within pleasingly separate and very juicy. The small rice was very generous - enough for 4 people. Our main course, Kung Pow Chicken, was unremarkable but we'll give them a pass on that. Really seemed like the chef just missed a bit on the proportions and timing, but the recipe seemed sound. I haven't been to their acutal restaurant yet, but I'll have to make a point of it. They may well be the best in town for classic Chinese dishes.
