This is one of our go to places for Asian food. We especially like the lunch specials, and I love that they are available 7 days a week and not just Monday through Friday. On our most recent visit, my daughter and I both ordered lunch specials with fried rice, which is really good. We also got the wonton soup (included with the lunch special if you eat in), and it was delicious also. The chicken fingers were pretty small, but were fresh and crispy. Nime chow is excellent - the peanut sauce is perfect and there are slices of garlic in the sauce. Service here is pretty fast and I've never had any problems with my orders. Came here with a large group and you know what? The sushi was great. Best in the state? Well, not exactly. But the fish was fresh, the service was exceptionally great considering we had 10 people and we had a great time! The chirahashi was a nice dish for a "lighter" option, and when I say lighter, I really just mean I didn't want to fill up on all specialty rolls. Very healthy portion of fish over a bed of rice. I thought the pineapple and bamboo shoots had a bit of an odd flavor, but it was easily ignored. The French crunch roll was very good. A little softer texturally than I was expecting but I enjoyed it a lot. I tried a few other pieces of sushi from friends and honestly, all their specialty rolls were good. This place never disappoints. The crab Rangoons are deliciously filled with a creamy cream cheese and crab filling. The edamame has a hint of salt and steamed to perfection. Then the Udon noodle soup is great when flavored with a little Hoison sauce. Not to mention it is served with 3 fried shrimp. The service is pretty good as long as you come when it is not packed. This was my first time dining inside and not getting take out. My takeout experiences are always easy and my order is correct. I usually call ahead or order online. This time we came in for dinner. Wow; it was crowded as there aren't a ton of tables but after a short wait we were seated. The space was clean and service was great. The food took a little while but no complaints because it was very crowded. Our sushi was perfect! It was tasty, rolled properly and no mess/falling apart. Our meals were perfect. The only thing I found a bit weird is that the dinner doesn't come with rice, you have to order some. I'm not sure who just wants to eat a place of sesame chicken and nothing else but other than that no complaints. My drink was also good! We will definitely be back. read more

Recently, we decided to eat in and I decided to try some of their other food options besides the basic combination plates. Not only was our server, Fang, lovely and attentive, but I was very pleasantly surprised by their sushi! We made a reservation for Christmas Eve for 7 people. We got there at the time I asked for and had to wait close to a half hour which was not the problem. The problem was I was told they only had a booth with a chair on the end. The booth would have been fine for 5 people, two on each side and the extra chair. We were so squashed on one side that my son volunteered to LEAVE so my husband and I were able to have more room...AND HE DID. I felt awful, we all did. Luckily, the three on the other side had a 9-year-old so they were not as bad off. I didn't even want to stay after that, but we had no choice at 7 o'clock Christmas Eve. If I hadn't made the reservation and just walked in off the street, that would be one thing, but if you accept a reservation, you should having seating for 7 people or just tell me no we can't! Since moving to Rhode Island, I've been a passenger on the struggle bus when it comes to finding great Asian food in our little state. Spending four years at university in Boston, right next to Chinatown, spoiled me with many a delicious dim sum meal, inexpensive sushi brunch, and creative fusion restaurants. I think I can add Hei Place to my list of great Chinese / Japanese cuisine in the Ocean State, though! We visited here about a week ago for a group dinner, and it's the perfect place to dine with friends. The menu is inexpensive without skimping on flavor or quality, and there's something for everyone. I try my best to eat healthfully, and I was delighted with the sushi selections available. My heart wanted lo mein noodles, but my diet said salmon sashimi, so that's what I got! However, it didn't feel like I was settling at all, because the salmon and tuna were so fresh tasting! I also got a Naruto Roll, which was wrapped in cucumber and served with a flavorful soy-based ponzu sauce. Yum! My friends indulged in Crab Rangoon (crispy and crunchy in every cheese-filled bite), Orange Beef (OH MY GOD. This was LIFE CHANGING. You could definitely taste the fresh orange juice and zest), and Wonton Soup (I snuck a bite, it wasn't my fave). We also split a couple of desserts off the appealing menu - a classic Creme Brûlée, and a tartufo-like concoction called a ChocoBomb. It was just fancy ice cream, but refreshing after such a savory meal. The restaurant is very clean, with plenty of seating at booths, bars, and tables. Our server was very friendly, and improved our mood with his sunny disposition. There is ample parking outside in a lot - Hei Place is part of a shopping center that also features a supermarket and a few stores - but don't let the location fool you. Sat at the bar for lunch. I got a two maki roll lunch special and an order of pan fried gyoza. Salad that came with the lunch was great. Sweet and simple, good size and really good ginger dressing. Sushi was very good, rolled nicely so it didn't break apart picking it up, and fresh. Gyoza was spot on. I think I enjoyed them most of all. They were perfectly seared with a little crunch on the folded side of the dumpling, not sure how else to phrase that. Just order from GrubHub and I received the wrong roll. I ordered the Ocean roll which has shrimp & lobster. The restaurant messed up and made me the Deep Ocean roll with raw salmon & spicy scallop. I do not eat raw salmon so I called the restaurant and asked for the manager. The girl said the manager is too busy to come to the phone and that I had to request a refund through GrubHub even though it's the restaurants fault for not paying paying attention to the ticket and sending out the wrong food.
