giving 5 stars because they are always so generous and patient in a college town. they pack in the classic chinese-american wok foods and you can order other east asian dishes that are comforting. there's some casual seating inside and the students can be seen gathering with friends late at night, it's sweet. chicken and broccoli has grown on me more than beef broccoli. they threw in wings and crab rangoons as a treat for us without ever having seen us before. great first time experience for my friend who was with me. (top combo plate was $16 and bottom was $19 both after tax)

The amount of food you get with one plate is well worth the price. The service is always nice, the line moves fairly quickly, and there's a small area for you to sit down and eat. You can never go wrong with Chinatown, I recommend this place to everyone I know! - I always get half and half which is half rice, and half noodles with buffalo chicken, chicken and broccoli and garlic green beans.

This is hands down the best Chinese food I have ever had. I appreciate how fast they are too. I have come here for a late night bite and typically have a long line but you wouldn't wait that long in line because there is so quick typically I do half lo mein half fried rice and then two protein orders and they always have a heavy hand one order can probably feed three people plus they have super cool graffiti on the wall and they have open seating so you get to sit wherever you want and they have a longer table in the middle for folks to sit down with large parties.

This is one of the best Chinese food spots in Rhode Island! The food is always so flavorful and service is quick and easy. They usually have a long line due to its popularity but it goes by pretty fast - worth the wait. They are also open late hours which is a plus on the weekends...especially after a fun night out with your friends and after a couple cocktails when you get hungry again! Super convenient and if you don't want typical fast food and more of a hearty meal. The best way to describe this place is Luxury 5 Star Chinese food court vibes. You can order off the menu or pick a 2 or 3 item combo. *Frequent Buyer Tip & Trick* - they will also let you do half rice and half noodles on the combo meal if you want the best of both worlds- highly recommend! Such a hidden gem! They also now serve sushi!

Best Chinese food in town!!! The portion size is just amazing. I liked every single thing. The second time I also liked every single thing. The service was very fast, and the atmosphere was good. If you like Chinese takeout, you need to try this place!

    Veggie Veg Lo Mein

Ordered from uber eats, veggie lo mein and crab rangoons. The crab rangoons had an odd filling with carrots in it and the veggie lo mein had no veggies in sight. Disappointing

The service is decent here. It does get busy randomly but the wait is no that bad. The food is good here. If you're in the area give Chinatown On Thayer a try.

Wow! This is what Panda Express wishes it could be. This Americanized Chinese food is so delicious and filling. There was no line when we went and service was fast. They do not skimp on the portions! The serving size is so worth it for the price. The two of us shared a 3 item combo (around $18). We got the Boneless Spare Rib, Salt and Pepper Shrimp, and Chicken Broccoli. These were all so good! They gave so much that the two of us couldn't even finish this. My favorite was probably the Boneless Spare Rib. It was so tender but also had a slight crispy sweet outer layer. I was so happy with how much they gave! I don't think I could regularly eat this because it is quite greasy, but totally so worth coming. I definitely wanna come back again!

Great American Chinese spot on Thayer. You come in and all the food choices are right there for you to choose. I decided to try their Bourbon chicken and Boneless spare ribs. Both were very well done. Tasty, not too salty, nice marinated sauce on them. The prices are a bit higher than if you go to a mom and pop Chinese restaurant, but the convenience on Thayer is not bad. Check out the many other choices they have. I'm sure you will find something to please you.

The fried rice is amazing. All the food tastes great.

Do they have ceramic dinnerware, or is everything served in disposable containers?

All disposable, but they use really nice plastic ware - especially for the rice bowls. And they use the good round chopsticks... not the cheapies that always break wrong! They have a few seats but not intended to be a sit-down restaurant.

When we went inside, there was only one other party there and no music, so just whispers and the sounds of utensils against plates. There are about 4-5 booths and 1-2 regular tables to choose from. Since l am not familiar with Sichuan cuisine, I had Al help me choose my dishes. I went with the dumplings in chili sauce, fried rice, eggplant in garlic sauce, and chongquin chicken. While we waited, we were given water. The dishes came out at different times. They first served us the dumplings which were really good. The sauce they were in did have some chili sauce, but it was mostly like a sweet soy sauce and really tasty. It came with about 6 dumplings with a perfectly cooked wrapper and filled with flavorful pork - simple but delicious. Next was the eggplant. I was expecting a heavy garlic presence, but it was more like a sweet and sour sauce. The eggplant was very tender, but really hot so we had to wait to let it cool down a bit. The rice came after. I honestly think this was one of my favorite dishes since it was perfectly cooked, great flavor, and good portion. Lastly, the chicken came out. There was a large pile of chicken, but half of it was peppers. The chicken was cut into little bite sized pieces, each fried perfectly. Some pieces were more tongue numbing than others but it was nothing aggressive; very gentle and comfortable numb. I would have liked if there were music, but the no music was fine too; an escape from chaotic reality. Our total was around $50, which wasn't bad for the amount of food we got. I would come back to try other items.

Apsara is one of my favorite restaurants in the World. Yes, you read that right--I have been to…read moreevery continent (except for Antarctica) and still write this with great confidence. I have been going to Apsara since the late 1980s, back when it was called "Bayon." It became AMAZING when it was purchased by the Te family, who still own and run Apsara. At its core, Apsara is and always has been loved by the college students in RI, for its kind servers, wonderful and eclectic foods (Cambodian, but also with Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese and Lao dishes, as well), very affordable prices and BYOB. The family has attempted various new ideas over the years, such as having sushi, and Asian shaved ices, and sticky rice desserts, most of which have come and gone, but the core menu is generally unchanged. One can still also try to order "off menu," although it's not as common practice as it had been. Start with the Nime Chow, which is essentially a fresh spring roll but with their delicious fish sauce, with crushed peanuts for dipping. I highly recommend adding a dribble of Sriracha to the sauce. Addictive! The chefs are known for cooking their stocks everyday, from hours before dawn. I find all of their soups to be delicious, with a suggestion to try their Vietnamese Sweet and Sour soup or their Tom Yum when you're battling a Winter cold. The also make Mekong fish cakes as an appetizer (finally now sometimes found at Thai places), as well as Natang, which is a minced pork with coconut cream and curry, and sometimes dried shrimp. You spoon it onto their homemade rice cakes... trust me, you'll never be tempted by Quaker Oats rice cakes ever again! Crispy wings are also solid, and the beef teriyaki is an essential (think Phnom Penh street food). The restaurant is pretty small and bustling, but very warm and "family-like." People there learn your name, as you learn theirs. Entrees are wonderful. The whole fish fried with fresh pineapple, cucumbers and tomatoes is killer! The stir fried chicken with lemongrass is delicious (try the "dry sauce") although they no longer make it with ground chicken and Thai chilis and basil (a shame as it was REALLY awesome!). The bee bongs are essentially a noodle bowl with vegetables and a protein, with fish sauce, chopped nuts and a taro fried spring roll. Other favorites include beef loclac (tender grilled beef cubes with onions and a yummy lime and black pepper dipping sauce) or the stir fried ginger chicken, with aged ginger and fresh mushrooms and onions. On a hot Summer day, the shrimp nyom (a cold shrimp salad) is tough to beat. Or mix it up, such as with Phnom Penh twilight, with calamari, shrimp, scallops and sometimes green NZ mussels. And if anyone is wondering, their white rice and their house tea are very high quality. If you are concerned about the somewhat dicey neighborhood (South Providence) or the small size of Apsara, take comfort in the fact that famous actors, musicians and celebrities have joined their kids to go there when attending the kids' graduations from Brown or RISD or wherever!

Quantity is a lot! It was very hot when we picked it up. For both the noodle dishes (pad thai and chow foon), I thought it's too oily. Yes, I know Chinese restaurant food is typically already very oily. But in these dishes, the oil might interfere with the flavor of the noodles as well, because I thought they were a little bland. Maybe it needs more light and dark soy sauce to balance the flavors more? But who am I to say, I'm not good at cooking noodles. For the pad thai, a sweet citrus-y sauce was included with the dish. It's not the usual fish sauce that other Asian RI restaurants give... and I don't think the sweet citrus sauce pairs with the pad thai very well. The wings were sweet tasting. While I think the food is decent, it can be improved. So, because I care about a restaurant's food more than anything else: three stars (it's ok; I may or may not order from here again) for the meal and experience we got. In addition, but not really important to the rating: parking is easy in the residential area behind. Or there is street parking in front (good luck because it's a busy street). Honestly, Atwells Ave would make a really nice No Cars, Pedestrians Only street.
