My friend and I went on a walk, with the intention of replenishing our fuel at Ming's Garden after. He had come before, and mentioned it's one of his favorites. After my experience there, I could say the same. They have about 4 tables if you wanted to eat there, which we did. They have paper menus, closely resembling the options offered at other Chinese take out spots. I was overwhelmed and went with the chicken wings and vegetable fried rice (spicy upon request) combo, but I should've picked something else. My friend ordered the orange chicken with vegetable fried rice (spicy upon request) and a spring roll. We each got a drink and ended up paying about $30 total. After about 10 minutes, our food was ready. It was hot and looked delicious. I was expecting the big wings with the drum, flat, and extra tip, but they were party wings with the drums and flat separate. It came with 6 wings which is pretty good for $10. It tasted good. My friend's plate looked amazing, and tasted even better. The chicken was white meat, the batter was still crispy, and the sauce was incredible. I highly recommend. Ming Garden is usually my go to place for quick and affordable Chinese food but on Sunday of last week the really dropped the ball. They usually do almost everything just right, unlike other places that excel at some menu items but totally suck at others. Hands down my favorite spot for chinese food! When i was getting my fence installed, the workers were raving about this place and how they try to get it anytime they're in the area. I was a fan of the original Canton Wok, before they sold. New owners brought terrible food. Then I found Moonstar in Pawtucket/East Side of Providence. They were fantastic, but the owner retired, and now it is gone. So, I started a search for really good Chinese takeout on the order Moonstar. I used Chicken Fried Rice and Egg Rolls as the litmus test. So I tried Dragon Villa. Food sucked. Oily rice, terrible egg rolls. It was a mess. I tried Spring House. Their fried rice was tolerable, but the egg rolls were not good at all. So then I decided to try Ming Garden, which claims that it is the best Chinese food in Pawtucket. This is NOT that. Their fried rice is yellow. Fried rice should never be yellow. The chicken looked like it had been boiled, not the least bit of color to it. Their egg rolls, although very crispy on the outside, were mushy on the inside. No texture, none of that great cabbage crunch that one expects from a good egg roll. Just Mush. My wife ordered shrimp Lo Mein, which was tolerable, but the Crab Rangoons were basically small and empty. Save your money for something better. This will not satisfy. read more

Updated review!!! The plastic has come down and you can sit and eat. In a World where $7.50 Combination plates are now $17.50, Ming Garden is still pretty darn reasonable. They raised prices but not as crazy as lots of others, and so they get my praise, and my business. The food is good. I enjoy their pu pu platter, which, went up 5 bucks, and is still the best around. Good egg rolls. Good fried rice, stir fries, and excellent chicken wings. I don't like anything battered here. It all has the spongy chicken, soggy batter. Overcooked and not good. Subgum pan fried noodles is my favorite dish. Friends remark shrimp are not of good quality. To me, they are ok. Bottom line, my friends always buy pans of wings, egg rolls, and fried rice from them for parties. They have been there a long time, and they do a good business. Friends of mine order from Ming Garden for large social gatherings so I decided to give them a try as well. They have a interactive/user friendly website that lets you place your order on line and it even gives you the option to pay in advance or to pay in store. it's a $15.00 minimum charge if you order online and request home delivery though. The restaurant itself is small and they have a small crew. they have a decent amount of seating and no public restrooms. the cashier was friendly, prompt, and also incredibly busy when I came in. She was taking 2 entirely separate orders off two entirely separate portable phones. My order was ready within 20 minutes and the portions of the meals I ordered were generous. My one chief complaint is the parking lot the restaurant is located in is chaotic.its a congested plaza and 90% of the patrons driving in that plaza don't follow the signage posted around the plaza to help drivers navigate safely. I dodged 3 potential fender benders while attempting to enter and exit the plaza. Overall I had a good dining experience and I'll definitely consider ordering from them again in the future. read more

I've eaten at Ming Garden at least 5 times since I moved to the area. Never again. The previous times I'd eaten here the food was pretty good for being a fast food Chinese restaurant. No problems with customer service; I actually thought everyone was pretty nice. This past time, however, we were ravenous and ate as soon as we got home. No issues. As expected. The next day we go to warm up some leftovers and I get a funny feeling about it. Upon closer inspection I notice a dark spot in my egg roll. I pinched off the dark spot, took a good look, and hell, that spot was a cockroach! Guy must've crawled in there when the roll was being folded 'cause he was deep fried right into that thing. The best Chinese takeout I've ever had! I order from this place, about once a week, that said, everything I get is made well, pretty consistent, tasty and pricing is average. Used to go to near by li lai wok as my go too, until I found this place, so if your looking for a new Chinese spot in the area, give it a try. They are super fast if you do pickup, if they say a time, it'll be done before that. Everyone answering the phone and when i pickup is efficient and nice. Some great options I enjoy regularly here are: shrimp pad thai - $10, serves two people nicely, this is a bit of a variation, to the typical dry pad Thai, so in my opinion , I like it better; also has the usual egg, peanuts, lime and sauce. Amazing shrimp - you can get it with or without breading, so steamed or deep fried; sweet and not spicy red sauce, kind of like a general taos sauce but better. Shrimp with garlic sauce, very tasty, good veggies, sweet and a bit spicy. The general taos chicken, sweet and sour sauce, and Orange chicken; are all very good and better than the average. The chicken used in the general taos and Orange chicken is white meat, and in the sweet and sour chicken white chicken bread is used. This is such a solid Chinese takeout option - it has been for years. Fresh and tasty. One of the biggest issues I face when trying Chinese takeout places is freshness, oily food and saltiness. I hate when you get slimy, old tasting food that is just blasted with salt to give it some flavor. Then you feel like sh*t for hours after you eat it. This place is a complete opposite. Their lo mein, and veggie dishes have fresh crispy vegetables. Their Gen Gao chicken are actual chunks of chicken, not overly breaded balls of grease. It's fresh and light, and you don't feel heavy after you eat it. People that complain about the staff not being friendly enough - this place is always busy, and they hustle. Wah I was really scared to walk into this place (no offense). However, the food was great, and the employees really friendly! It's literally a take out place (there are spaces to sit, but the storefront is pretty cluttered). You can generally also tell it's a take-out place based on the structure (very fast-food like setting), so my rating is solely based off service and food rather than decor and atmosphere. When I used to work out here, I absolutely had to get their Hot n Sour soup. Delicious!! Cheap!! What's not to love! I also got a lunch order once - string beans with chicken, also very delicious. I'm gonna go with "meh". I've ordered delivery from this place twice . . . and both times were just "meh". Now, I'm not even coming from "I'm Chinese . . . and this isn't *real* Chinese"-land. Sometimes this Chinese-American girl craves some Chinese-American grub, so I can crab-rangoon, general-gao, bbq spare-rib with the best of 'em. But again, this place is just "meh". The sesame chicken was passable . . . but don't make the mistake of ordering the sesame chicken with the general gao's chicken, and god help if you if you also order the orange chicken - cuz they are all essentially the same -deep fried battered chicken chunks in - lemon orange goop (sesame), orangey red goop (general gao's), and bright orange goop (orange). And I'm not saying that that's not good. I'm just saying that you probably really don't need all three . . . cuz really, for all intents and purposes . . . they are pretty much the same. I order the sesame chicken, mainly because I like the little decorative sesame seeds - which also helps to differentiate it from the orange chicken . . . if you're color blind. Ok, and they throw in freebies . . . the first time, we got free veggie lo mein - which was fine, but it had a kinda weird taste to it that made me think of my grandmother and not in a 'wow, this is reminiscent of the food my grandmother used to make' but more like a sense memory of what an old chinese lady might smell like? I think it might have been the bamboo shoots. Strange, I know. And the second time, we only made it to the 'free egg roll' level . . . and these fine, if strangely colored. I think it was cabbage on the inside, but there was also something red. And I'm not sure if there was meat in them . . . ahh - the mystery fillings inside egg rolls are kinda always anyone's guess. It's just an excuse to shovel more duck sauce into my face. Also, I'll add that they have vietnamese and thai options on the menu as well. And hey . . . I love those cuisines as well. So I ordered up some nime chow which was just barely passible, with a dipping sauce that was *maybe* duck sauce w/ a dash of fish sauce, and the pad thai . . . which I *think* was just rice noodles covered in that same sauce. I have to admit I am usually one to judge a restaurant by its appearance.. And I avoided Ming Garden for almost 3 years upon moving to Pawtucket, but in a recent state of desperation and a severe craving for chow mein, I broke down and ordered a small to go. I was pretty darn impressed! The service has been consistently friendly each of the three times I have ordered. And fast! Even on a Thursday/Friday night AND with a Pawsox game playing, my food was ready in less than 10 minutes even though they seem to be busy. The veggies and noodles have been super fresh and always cooked perfectly! The portions are very fair if not huge depending on what you order and they are pretty cheap (score!) The chow mein / low mein are always seasoned perfectly (who likes bland chow mein!) and the sauces have all been tasty so far. All in all I have no reason to deduct a star from a near perfect rating other than the very interesting interior of the restaurant. It's pretty scary and I would definitely never eat in.. But who cares when you live less than a minutes drive down the street and can eat in your own home! read more

I have been here at least a dozen times. The first several times were over the winter and all was fine. The portions are good and the people are polite. The prices are reasonable. The a/c is not the best so we have been getting the orders to go. While waiting we can see into the kitchen, which is not the cleanest. There seems to be some non employees in the kitchen, which is a major health code violation at least in Mass. The other night I saw an employee walk from the local supermarket with lettuce unwrapped and into the kitchen. To top it off the shrimp was soggy.
