Hubby and I came to Lost Larson on a Friday morning and there was one other couple there. There is a small seating area inside for a few patrons but the shop is fairly small. When we placed our order we were asked if it was for dine-in or takeout. Even though we said take out we were not provided a takeout box/bag until I had asked for one. I don't know how we would have managed to keep the pastries from falling out of their small packaging without the bag. I had the tebirkes (croissant filled with a lightly sweetened almond cream and topped with poppyseeds). The croissant was light and not too buttery. However, there were way too many poppyseeds for my liking. The poppyseeds are bitter and I didn't think they paired well with the taste of the almond filling. Hubby got the chocolate hazelnut croissant. It was flakey and had plenty of filling which was on the sweeter side. Maybe I got the wrong things but I had higher expectations since I have seen Lost Larson popping up on so many trending lists of bakeries to check out in Chicago. read more

Went back this past weekend and got there a bit earlier so the display was full. I bought nearly one of everything and it was all delicious! The cinnamon roll was like a cinnamon kougin amann with a very lightly sweetened cream cheese on top... it was unexpected but I'd definitely get it again. I couldn't leave without a couple slices of princess cake and you shouldn't either. ** I actually prefer the chocolate spelt cookie cold! One of my favorite places to go for a pastry. Keep in mind that it's best to either pre-order or come in early, because they do run out of things here. But whatever they have is guaranteed to be quality! My favorites are the tebirke, ham and cheese croissant, and afternoon tea bun. But you can't really go wrong. They also have excellent chai. Service was excellent and happy to answer my questions about the different items available. Regarding the 15 percent service charge, I will say there is a sign next to the register indicating as much, and it has been there for at least a year. You should not be blindsided if you are ordering in person. read more

Mind blown! Lost Larson's pastries are stellar. Besides being amazingly delicious, they are light and airy in unexpected and delightful ways. There was one unusual miss that held me back from a full five star review, but I have every expectation that WHEN (not if) I go back I'll up my four to a five. We treated ourselves to a carry out order for Easter of a cinnamon roll and afternoon tea bun for breakfast, and a carrot cake slice and grapefruit tart for dinner dessert. Pickup was great COVID-wise, with an outdoor table for advanced order pickup. They were also taking on-the-spot orders through a speaker in the window (that did a good amount of business while I waited). The afternoon tea bun was my favorite. The flavor of Earl Grey tea came across perfectly, and the crunchy carmelization and nice layers inside reminded me of a kouign amann - the latter was my favorite pastry...until I ate this amazing thing! The cinnamon bun was also excellent, and much like the tea bun with its layers and carmelization. It was not nearly as heavy as the more standard cinnamon roll I expected, which made me like it even more. Similarly, the carrot cake looked like "just" a fancier version of a standard carrot cake, but it was a revelation. The layers were airy and melted in your mouth while still having a nice, lightly crunchy texture. So so good! The only letdown was the grapefruit tart. It was absolutely delicious, with just the right balance of tart and sweet - but the grapefruit filling was very runny. I would have expected it to be more firm like a curd or even a custard, so seems like something was off that morning. That said, I wouldn't hesitate to go back to Lost Larson to get these again as well as try others in their amazing looking array of pastries! read more

This bakery and their pastries are very aesthetic, but unfortunately didn't taste good enough to me to justify their prices. I could tell everything used high quality ingredients and was skillfully made, but their baked goods were far too sweet for my taste. I ordered for pickup on a Sunday morning, and they were very accommodating when I had to push back my scheduled time. We tried the cardamom bun, lingonberry almond cake, and sourdough brown butter pecan cookie. I liked the lingonberry almond cake best! We also got their iced campfire latte with oat milk, which had a mild smoky flavor but the coffee wasn't as strong as I'd like. read more

Popped in here for some pastries and a latte. The latte art is on point here. We got the Afternoon Tea Bun and Tebirkes. The Afternoon Tea Bun was very good. I split it and my portion only had the citrus and not the tea. The Tebirkes was good, but I think could have used more almond cream. My one grip is the bags they use are flimsy!! I had two break and it got the Tebirkes' sesame seeds EVERYWHERE. All right.. probably a love/hate relationship with this place. Love their croissants, tebirkes, and pastries. Every single one I've had there is amazing. Absolutely delicious. Ambiance is lovely. The buts: 1. They're a bit of a walk from the CTA station, but I guess you have to walk off the calories somehow. 2. Tipping policy which has been mentioned already by previous reviewers. Like, why??? This place is like eating a full on meal with service (ok, but the only service you're getting is them placing your pastries in a baggie, handing it to you, and checking your order out. Um... ok. One reviewer said they were able to get the extra service charge removed, but when I asked to adjust the service percentage in store, they didn't allow me. Hmmm.... I wish I got a picture of the most amazing thing I've had here (or in generally in a while) but I took it on a plane and it got smashed around. Everyone NEEDS to try their camansi meringue tart!! Now!! It is incredibly delicious and so unique in flavor. It's like if an orange, lime and lemon were mixed together. The crust was perfectly crisp and buttery. I wanted to love this place since it looks super cute and who doesn't love buttery pastries? I had a blueberry muffin and the quiche. I thought the blueberry muffin was a bit hard, dry and crumbly. And the quiche crust was thick, hard and dense. The filling was good, but it was also cold. It wasn't a great grab and go experience. If you're looking for an aesthetic coffee shop, this is the place for you. First of all, super beautiful on the inside plus the pastries are so gorgeous. For 2 drinks and 2 pastries, it was around $30 which wasn't too bad in my opinion. Wish they had more seating. The lavender in the coffee was subtle and the chocolate croissant was one of the flakiest ones I've had. I'm a fan of this place! Their afternoon tea bun and hot herbal tea were delicious. The consistency of the tea bun was light and fluffy--a bit more doughy than a croissant, easy to eat. The interior is clean and pretty. The bathrooms are well maintained. There's plenty of parking (free and paid) nearby. Service is spotty throughout the bakery. I would come here earlier in the day for the freshest pastries as they do sell out. When I came at around 10am on a weekday, they still had plenty. I've been to their original location several times and this is my second visit to the new wicker park spot. The first time I walked up and got a morning bun, which is my favorite thing ever, and a coffee. The morning bun is simple, but also anything but. Buttery, sugary, tender, with a distinct Earl gray taste...I can't recommend it enough. Today I picked up a raspberry semla that I had preordered earlier in the week. Did I need it? No. But all proceeds were going towards GirlForward, and I justified it by walking to the shop. I waited a few minutes for them to help another customer and was "in" and out in a few minutes. I came here with a large group on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, and the owner + employees were super accommodating of us. They recommended a handful of their favorite items to us and we brought them out to the parking lot around the corner so we didn't take up space inside the small bakery. I had their chocolate hazelnut pasty. I've had so many chocolate croissants in my life, but this was something different! The chocolate was gooey and creamy, and the pastry was flaky, crisp, and melt-in-your-mouth. There was a slight glaze and sheen on the top, as well as a few baked hazelnuts (or roasted). The nutty flavor came through and blended well with the chocolate -- neither was too overpowering over the other. It was hard not to love it! This pastry was rather decadent and is definitely more of a dessert than a brunch bite. We also had the Earl Gray croissant and the sticky cinnamon buns. Took a nice walk from North Avenue and Ashland over to Division and Western to check out Lost Larson bakery. I've heard good things from a handful of people regarding the original location. I think that one is in Uptown or Andersonville or something. Anyway, I tried the cardamom bun, as well as a saffron pastry I think. Both were delightful! They also make a cortado there which I enjoy very much because I kept having them in London and Amsterdam. Quick stop over to Lost Larson and I was out they close at 2 PM. I am a constantly lost and of Danish ancestry so Lost Larson was calling to me. We parked our long boat, pulled on our vekso helmets, and headed into this purveyor of delectable Scandinavian influenced goodies. We ordered a Cardamom Bun, a Kouign-amann, a Blueberry Muffin, and a Spinach and Feta Danish. Wow! All of these treats were very special. The cardamon bun was a luscious sweet roll accented with cardamom and topped with granulated sugar. Soooo good! The kouign-amann was a flaky-sugary-crunchy festival. This was one of the best kouign-amanns that we have ever had! Yummy! The blueberry muffin was excellent with its cakey blueberry goodness. Our spinach and feta danish reminded us of some of the best spanakopita that we have had in the past. The spinach and feta tastes blended perfectly with the flaky pastry bed that they rested on. Delicious! We left Lost Larson feeling a little less lost and ready to go out and conquer the challenges that lay ahead. read more

Why was a croissant and a cold brew $16??? Adding an automatic 15% tip for window service seems slightly absurd. On top of that, the coffee was mediocre, with barely any milk at all despite the extra charge for oat milk. The hazelnut chocolate croissant was incredibly dense and very sweet. I liked it but it wasn't flaky and was just too much - I couldn't finish it. All that said, their pastries look so tasty I kind of want to come back to try some more. I would skip the coffee and I would ask them to remove the auto tip which, when added alongside the covid restaurant fee (which I am fine with), and taxes, comes to nearly an additional 30% on the bill. read more

Lost Larson opened their third Chicago location last week and it didn't disappoint. The menu is pretty much the same as the other locations, which is not a complaint! They have a super safe covid setup, you order through a sort of drive up microphone system and they have the credit card machine on the outside of the glass. When your food is ready they call your name and put it on a table outside the door. (It will make more sense when you see it!). I love all the baked good from Lost Larson I really don't know if I can pick a favorite. But I will say I think they have the best cinnamon rolls and I don't say that lightly. From their coffee, to croissants, to the cookies you really can't go wrong. So glad they came to the neighborhood! read more

I've been to their Andersonville location several times before so when I came across this new Wicker Park location I had to see if they had any new items or different flavors. Unfortunately, they had about the same menu but the quality of all their baked goods was still high and I enjoyed everything. I loved their trail mix cookie the most as I've never had it before and I thought it had an interesting flavor profile while being exceptionally soft and moist. The other items I had before and were all okay. The cinnamon bun was a little too stale for me and could have used more icing on top but like I've mentioned in my previous reviews, it was very unique. Like I've also said before, the lingonberry almond cake was very thick and a little too bland for me but very filling. read more

Lost Larson in andersoneville is one of my favorite bakeries in the city. Although this one in wicker park does carry many of the same mouth watering delicious pastries, it does miss the sandwiches (which are amazing) and the great outdoor patio up in andersoneville. I've been to the Andersonville location and I am SO ELATED about the fact there is a location closer to home! They ran out of the cider this time but i can still taste it from my last trip so I opted for a dirty chai instead. The almond croissant was amazing, and I got an almond tart for after dinner. I was also very impressed with their contactless ordering through a speaker like the bank, which was unique and a really good idea for the safety of employees. Their almond lingonberry cake was divine-- some crisp edges, well structured, very light and airy. Not too sweet, but with delightful pops of acid from the lingonberry, and some custard nestled quietly in the middle. Try impressive for a typically stodgy pastry. 10/10 would eat another rn. Chocolate croissant is very disappointingly meh. Their berry danish for some reason is much better-- better lamination, better glaze for sure. It still had a damp bottom, though. Lemonade is so meh. Their use of hibiscus (?im guessing) is smart, but for 6$? OUCH It's funny how my experience is diagrammatically opposite from others'.. maybe it depends on the baker? On the weather? Idk. I love the bakery's name, I love the ethos, the interior and exterior, and the backstory, but maybe a little more consistency would be nice? Who knows? read more
