3/5, December 2023. We stopped here while visiting San Antonio around Christmas. It's a bit out of the way relative to the downtown area but not far from the Rim area. The beer we tried was solid and the service was good. The Brewery is themed to military/special forces and has a solid bar atmosphere. I was hesitant to visit Longtab thinking it was the brewery equivalent to Planet Hollywood/Rainforest Cafe. Basically, where the theme takes center stage instead of the food and beer. I had already come from another brewery and wasn't looking to get too much and considering that I had a low bar for Longtab I anticipated I'd just have a sample and then leave. Chip on shoulder, I walked in and decided I would try their kolsch, Phantom Fighter. 1) Beers in the this style are hard to make, visually, and taste wise, 2) most new breweries don't make this style or make a broad portfolio of beersfor a variety of reasons. PF was actually pretty decent and it made me stick around long enough to try their food as well. Their bratwurst on a pretzel bun with their mustard? Delicious, the chips were a good accompaniment as well, probably better than fries would have been. read more

Happy to update this review. We had been several times before since my last review and it's time to update. This weekend stopped in with some friends who had never been before. Everyone was really impressed with their beer. The giant pretzel was delicious and their charcuterie was a nice size - could have used a bit more cheese but no stars deducted. The right glass per pour is always a plus. Drawback is they don't have flights bur rest assured that any of their beers are an excellent choice as per the group. I like their Texas wine selection. An awesome place to come by to do work or just enjoy company!! My friend showed me this place and told me how it is Veteran owned, and sure enough you walk in and the memorabilia and decor around the whole place says enough! Very interesting to look around and see various pictures, flags, etc around the establishment very nicely executed theme! I loved the causal vibe of this place. I like to call it a coffee shop for beer lovers! I had a great beer the Safehouse (Farmhouse Ale) and it was perfect, nice and light feel to it! I also split a pretzel with my friend! It was HUGE so just a fair warning but plenty between two people. Very nice stop and will be visiting soon, I have heard they switch out the beers according to season and I'm excited to try the other selections! read more

I've been trying to come here for so long. Finally my boyfriend and I went last night. I love the energy of this place. It's somewhere I can find myself just sitting for a while enjoying the company of friends. The staff was so friendly and very attentive. The beer here is really good, and I don't even like beer so that's saying something. The Bulls Bock has to be the best beer I've had. We got the Bavarian pretzel, house salad, and Cubano sandwich. Everything was great. No complaints on the taste or quality of the food or beer. My only thing would be price racked up to over a 100 for two people. We are very glad this locally/veteran owned brewery is right down the street from us. First timers but we will become regulars in the near future. We were promptly greeted and chose to sit at the bar. The atmosphere is very patriotic and I salute these fine people for that. Now the beer? One of a kind. They aren't slanging sour/lactose/artificially Flavored nonsense, they are brewing super smooth and the real deal traditional brews of the European descent. Had a fantastic dunkel, saison and a dopplebock. I hear they rotate and brew beers frequently so expect something new. Also, we tried the pork belly nachos and dang, that hit different. The only thing I don't like is the location can may be be scary in the evening being inside the loop in a kind of warehouse district. This is probably the best kept secret in town. I seriously wasn't aware this place was open. Located in an area full of car repair shops, you could easily pass it up. This place is for everyone. It's delicious and they serve large portions. I didn't expect much from their food, but I was wrong. They also sell canned beer and coffee to go. We started by sharing the soft pretzel. It's a perfect appetizer for beer. For my meal, I had the Blackened shrimp hoagie. it came with large pieces of shrimp. It was perfectly seasoned. The side was house seasoned chips. I can't complain. It was a good meal. For beer, you can always as for half pours so you can try most than one. This place sells typical beer. Nothing too crazy. The wine served is from Messina Hof. I am willing to swear that Longtab has a professional chef on staff. The food is damn good. The environment is calm and the music is at a comfortable volume. It was crowded And their was a reserved section for a party. There were no lower type tables only the tall ones. We were going to leave when Sarah said she could get us a low table set up. The pretzel and the shrimp cheese dip were great. My husband loved his dark beer and I liked my iced latte. We will definitely be going back. We came to enjoy some beer and snacks. It was a small cute place with TVs and a good amount of indoor seating. The staff was really nice and fast! Got the pretzel since we got there late and they were out of a few things already but the pretzel is all I really wanted so we were happy! It came out warm and huge portion. Long tab is one of my favorite local breweries. The location is very unassuming but don't let the warehouse location fool you, these folks know what they are doing when it comes to beer and food. It has a pub vibe but gourmet food. They also have a terrific selection of coffee! The menu rotates so it might look different each time you come. My current favorite is the turkey kale salad. I think about this salad and crave it. They also have a pretty solid pretzel. The beer is plentiful with a wide range when it comes to type. The stout is my favorite. Service is always nice, the wait staff is happy to make recommendations. The prices are a bit higher than an average pub but the quality of the food is the reason why.... Totally worth it. Trying out local beer after watch solar eclipse, this one was a close one, so we decide to give a try. The shareable is good size for two of us, great variety and pair up perfectly with beer. For beer, we tried The Tribe, great choice for coffee lover. Red Empire is also an exceptional beer. Hope one day they will be in the Houston market. read more

Pineland Oppression is a decent IPA. I really liked the Breacherbock, a wheat Doppelbock. Didn't have any food. Curious as to why the prices for a pint are so high, here and at Busted Sandal. I'm from the Boise area, and 99% of the pours are $5, even 10oz premiums like bourbon barrel stouts. One last note, Doppelbock is spelled dopplebock on the can. read more

Being a retired Army NCO who had First Sergeants and a few Commanders who were Special Forces I am always partial to places like this. The atmosphere is great and the people working were friendly and helpful when asked about their beers. I ended up ordering the Hellas dedication beer, with one sip I was reminded of being in Germany. They have a nice selection of beer which they brew and you can get cans of their beer to take home. As for food you will have to forgive me, as we were having such a good time that I forgot to take pictures of the food. There were 4 of us in our group, 3 of which are retired Army. We started off with the Pork Belly Nachos then I ordered the Grilled Cubano sandwich. The food was was very good and I intend to return soon. read more

A friend of mine posted that she and her husband were here. I was kinda shocked. I thought I was keeping up with the beer scene in San Antonio a whole lot better. For a brewery to sneak into my part of town without me knowing was a wake up call. I need to Google "breweries near me" more often when I am at home, and not just when I am on the road. Anyway, I got here as soon as I could. I had my youngest son with me. He was a bit under the weather and passed on the beer. He had an espresso instead. I don't really think he knew what he was ordering when he did it. I asked him and all he said was, "It's coffee and I like coffee!" I on the other hand was there for the beer. I got a flight with all four of the beers they had on tap. I liked the branded glasses on the flight. The board they were on was a cool arrow shape that military buffs could probably name. Me, not so much. The first two beers were Pineland Oppression and Quiet Professional, both IPAs. I liked them, but I am really looking for a juicy IPA these days. They were both pretty lite. The third beer was Snake Eater, a Cascadian black IPA. It was nice. The last one was G Chief. It was a cherrywood Porter. I really liked it. It had a nice rich smokey taste with a tiny bit of a coffee undertone. I wouldn't call it a coffee porter though. After tasting all four, I was left with a desire to try more from this brewery in the future. We were there for lunch. N2S had the bratwurst on a pretzel bun. He said it was good, but commented that the stone ground mustard outplayed all the other flavors. The part that he left the mustard off had more bratwurst flavor. I had the bacon jam ham and cheese panini. I really liked it. It was crispy and the jam gave it just enough sweetness to really complete the flavor scheme. Now, I need to point out something I did not like. The sandwiches come with chips like Ruffles. I'm not sure of the brand. But, the ones on my plate were those little ones mixed with pieces you get from the bottom of the bag. I would recommend that Longtab replace them with kettle chips. They are more robust, would stand up to the sandwich flavors better, and most importantly, won't get broken as badly. Nobody wants to eat the bottom of the bag with a paid for meal. I like the way this place is set up. The bar area is nicely done. They have room for many more taps as they grow their operation. Having the tables and the brewing equipment in the same room always appeals to me. Okay... I only gave Longtab four stars. Once they get some more of their beers brewed and on tap, I will boost it to a five. I expect to be coming back here a lot in the future. I really need to try that roast beef Reuben panini! read more

I haven't written a review in awhile. It's dusty in here. Anyway, so I didn't expect to find a really good Cubano sammich in a military themed brewery during Oktoberfest season...but damn! The grilled cubano was fucking faboo! My wife got the schnitzel and käsespätzle and oh my Jesus....I hope they consider this as a permanent menu item in the future. Better than that one place downtown that also has good schnitzel... The beer here is always phenom. This day we tried the Bearded Bastard because IPAs are for the seasoned beer aficionados.
