It's a perfect spot to hang out with friends as well as family. The staff is very well-mannered and attentive, they keep checking on you without being overbearing, which is really nice. The Long Island Iced Tea is one of my go-to drinks here, and it's amazing. They also offer complimentary nuts (cashews, peanuts, and chickpeas) which are super tasty and perfect when you want a light snack along with your drink. They opened just a month or two ago, and we've already been here around 6 times, that itself says a lot. Food highlights: Chicken Wings - I call them jumbo chicken wings. I love the garlic parmesan, and my wife loves the buffalo garlic parmesan. 5/5 Chicken Nuggets - Nice, juicy, and crispy. 5/5 Loaded Fries - My absolute favorite appetizer. 10/5 Grilled Chicken Melt - The bread and chicken are sooo good. 5/5 My friend tried the Pitawich (falafel & chicken) and said it was really good. Lots of bars do this so it's not a huge ask. I told her- I'm always afraid it will be too sweet or not good. And she kind of shrugged her shoulders Okay. I said what do you think of it? And she says (no joke): 1) I'm not a frozen girl 2) I don't like mango (deadpan). And just stared at me. Okayyyy way to upsell your available drinks. For me a Caesar should have that briny anchovy depth, and this one tasted freshly made and perfectly balanced. It felt authentic and thoughtfully prepared. The old space used to feel dark and cramped, but the updated interior feels much more open, modern, and inviting. Our waitress was also excellent throughout the meal--attentive, kind, and clearly doing her best to keep up with a packed dining room. Unfortunately, that's where most of the positives ended for us. The chips were thicker than usual but still good, and while the salsa had decent flavor, it had almost no heat at all. We also ordered guacamole without onions, but it came across very bland and could've used more lime, seasoning, and some jalapeño to brighten it up. My wife did enjoy her strawberry margarita, which was both flavorful and noticeably strong. I ordered the mole enchiladas and found the mole sauce surprisingly flat and lacking depth. Other dishes around the table were described as just okay overall, although the kids were very happy with the thick, fluffy pancakes. The biggest issue was timing. We didn't receive our entrees until almost 3:00 PM, which made for a very long wait, especially with kids at the table. To the restaurant's credit, they brought out two slices of cake to apologize even though we never complained. Overall, we left pretty underwhelmed, especially considering the occasion. We love to dance and let's face it, the area only has country dance places - which I do enjoy, but we definitely missed the energy and music from Doc Browns. My mistake for thinking Broken Oak would be similar. There was no DJ and there was no dance floor. There were long high top tables all over, and one bar. There was a weirdly dark little upstairs area I'm not sure what was to be used for. At one point I asked the bartender if there was supposed to be a DJ and where exactly the dance floor was, and he said "I just started last night so I have no idea." Meanwhile the drinks we ordered were not great. I know the place just opened and maybe it was an off night, but a brand new establishment shouldn't have off nights on Saturdays, imo. It felt like just another mediocre bar/restaurant. My advice? Find an identity and be unapologetically that. What's the area missing? What can you offer that might be unique? It's not what you're putting out now, I promise. You've got a big, beautiful space - use it to its advantage. And maybe a refresher to the bartenders on what exactly this place is supposed to be.

The tuna was a bit overdone, but it was full of flavor and tasted great. The grilled salmon came out next and it was delicious. It has moist and tender on the inside and seasoned well on the outside. The crab meat and gravy topping really set it off. Overall, it was great coming back to SILO Alamo Heights and getting reacquainted with the menu. I'll be back to try more of the menu.
