For a chain steak joint, I wasn't expecting a lot. But an 8oz filet for 19.99$? Sign me up! Got the renegade filet with a sweet potato and rice pilaf. Meal also comes with a small loaf of bread and butter. The steak was seasoned well, the rice was a little too salty.. and my sweet potato, I assumed was going to come unbuttered, but it came buttered and sugared. The menu advertised a cinnamon sugar butter, and I'm pretty positive that they just dumped a packet of cane sugar on top of the butter. Service was a bit slow and it took a while to get our drinks, but it was pretty busy for snowmageddon.

I originally found myself here after searching online where I could get a good bowl of French onion soup on a Sunday evening. I have only been to Longhorn once before at a different location, but this time I was dining alone and felt I could document the full experience! Although, I came here for the soup the mixed green salad stole the appetizer show. From the house made ranch and what taste like house made croutons too?! I normally opt for no croutons since they're usually extremely dry and hard, but as someone noted before they are still light, airy and very delicious! The cheese was freshly shredded as well and I love that cucumbers were diced instead of big slices, the only thing I wish I did was take a picture. The French onion soup looked amazing, but it was a bit salty and the crouton under the cheese crust quickly soaked up most of broth leaving more an onion gravy than soup. Wasn't a fan of the complimentary bread, I think the tiny pieces of wheat threw me off? Without any of intention of eating a steak, I ended up ordering the 12 oz ribeye with asparagus and brussel sprouts. The ribeye was cooked medium and it was perfect, I had A1 sauce on stand-by and didn't use a drop! The asparagus was cooked to perfection as well, but way too salty/over seasoned to eat more than a few. I was really hoping to enjoy the brussel sprouts the most and they tasted great, but once I got towards the bottom it was mostly oil. If you want a GREAT steak and salad this is the place to be. If you're a vegetarian/vegan wanting to enjoy only sides this steakhouse isn't for you.

Restaurant: nice but dang, couldn't they wait til at least 5:00 before they turn down the lights so low you can't see the people across the table from you?! Service: wasn't too bad, server was friendly if a bit slow. Food: good, never had a bad meal here but I have had better. Drink: the new dragon fruit margarita is very sweet and has seemingly little patron. I did enjoy the flavor.

    A great Dinner

Food was great! Better than expected! Service was not great - server didn't come back to check on us unless bringing the meal/drinks, plus she forgot I asked for extra condiments. She also had no clue what beers were on tap (menu states "ask server for beer selection"). Later we waited and waited to hopefully find her walking around so we could ask for steak sauce. Finally I had to go back in the kitchen to ask for it, only to find a bunch of employees gathered around their phones. By the time we had what we wanted at the table our food was cold. Good, but cold. Took most of our meal home to heat up later. With so many different restaurants offering great food AND great service, it's hard to recommend Longhorn Steakhouse in Olathe... but your service may vary.

In the spring, my wife works a Friday evening/Saturday morning "side hustle," so we almost always go out for dinner on Fridays when she gets off. The only problem with that is by the time we can get anywhere to eat the lines are generally pretty long. Such was the case last night, but we found an acceptable wait time online at Longhorn Steakhouse and headed that direction. Since we had a bit of a drive to get there, we hopped in queue online for an anticipated 20-minute wait and we were there in short order. About 40 minutes after our arrival we were escorted to a booth for two. Our host was delightful, and our server amiable, but on the whole our experience was lackluster. We ordered our usual spicy chicken bites appetizer; the wife had chicken strips and a baked sweet potato, and I ordered a rib eye, medium rare, with Brussels sprouts. We each had a salad: mine a Caesar and hers a house salad w/blue cheese. Our food was fine, though my steak was more medium-well than medium-rare... (but the Brussels sprouts almost made up for it-- truly one of the best sides I've found ANYWHERE.) It wasn't the great steak I'd been craving, but again, it was fine. My wife's chicken, on the other hand, was OUTSTANDING. Our server seemed too busy to give really great service, as evidenced by the more than 10-minute wait with empty water glasses at the edge of the table. (Yes, I looked at my watch!) I couldn't help but wonder if they'd been filled more quickly if they had been cocktail glasses or wine glasses. I'm not generally a complainer, but this was the first time out of MANY visits to this restaurant that I went away disappointed in our decision to go there. I'll grant that it could simply have been an off day, and i really wish I could give "half stars" in ratings. This would have been a three and a half... certainly not an "AMAZING 5," and not really a "VERY GOOD 4." Our visit was better than an "AVERAGE 3" but not great. The 4 stars of this review average last night's 3 with my former review's 5. Next time we visit, and we WILL go again, I'll reconsider this review and adjust accordingly.

We initially chose it thinking "oh it's v day, people will want to do something nicer than TRH". WRONG. Told a 3 hour wait and we shuffled over to the Olive Garden. Well, this year, I was smart. I went online weeks prior to make a reservation, only to find out that they don't take reservations--only a waitlist. So I plotted. I told myself that I'd start looking at the waitlist starting at 2p for Valentine's Day I kid you not, by 330p, the waitlist was already at 1.25 hours. 30 min later at 4p, the waitlist was at 2hrs. Perfect. 6pm dinner sounds great! We arrived and they seated us within 2 minutes. Our waiter came promptly and checked on us so many times. Salads came out literally within a minute of us ordering. Entrees took five minutes. A wait staff stood there and waited for us to cut into our steaks to ensure that it was to our liking. And we pay at the table on a machine on our own time. We got in and out in 30 minutes. Whoever is the manger/GM know how to manage. Kudos to them for an insanely smooth holiday dinner. Also... a chain restaurant having an almost 4 star review is insane--but now I understand.

It definitely gives "I was formally a sports bar that was hap hazardly put together to try to pass off as an upscale restaurant." It feels cold and unwelcoming in a way. The music over head was barely audible adding to the sterile feel of the space. So bottom line for me, I liked the food well enough, but with the ambiance and service lacking, I won't return.

Several dishes were overly salted, and the Caesar salad was especially sad--wilted lettuce and lacking freshness. The restaurant was very crowded, but not adequately staffed to handle the volume. Service was slow throughout the night, and they ran out of items on the Restaurant Week menu. I was served melted sorbet and had to send it back. Our dinner took nearly three hours, largely due to long stretches of waiting to be served or checked on. Busy nights are understandable, but the lack of pacing and execution really took away from what could have been a much better experience. They had a jazz band playing which was a nice experience. If you go, ask for a table on the right. We were on the left side and about frozen every time the front doors opened, which was a lot while the band was bringing in their equipment.

We were seated on time at a table next to the bar-side of the dining room. Speaking of the dining room, it's a nice, if standard size for a strip-mall space, but I really appreciated that the tables were not stacked on top of each other, as seems to be the case at more and more places these days. It felt like there might be some chance of our entire conversation not being completely overheard by our neighbors, which was nice for a change! Our waitress was fantastic! She walked us through the menu, the restaurant's approach to cooking and seasonality, some of her faves, and made wonderful recommendations! We decided to split a few small plates, which was a great approach! We got to try about 1/3 of the small plate menu, and loved it all! It was all great, but the Black Cardamom Burnt Ends are NOT to be missed! It made my cardamom-loving, Midwest soul very, very happy indeed! The space is a really nice size - not massive or overwhelming - and with the shades drawn down (to seal out the late afternoon sun, thank goodness!) and dim lighting, the mood vibes were solid for a romantic anniversary dinner! The other ambiance item of note is that the restroom corridor smelled absolutely fantastic! Upon investigation, it was due to a burning candle from a lovely local-KC company that was custom made for the restaurant! Yes, they're for sale, and yes, we picked up two! While everything was lovely and the food was very good, you're definitely paying a high price for it. Not that it's not deserved, but the "value" feels aren't necessarily "off the charts", by any means. And that is really my only critique, if there is any at all! Food = 5/5 Facility = 4/5 Service = 5/5 Ambiance = 4/5 Value = 3/5

We hit the club for brunch with a group, and while the ambiance was pure "Country Club Chic," the execution was a bit more "Sunday Morning Sand Trap." The Liquid Courage I started off my round with two drinks. the Bloody Mary. It was fine--tasty enough, but it certainly didn't change my life or inspire any poetry. However, things got interesting with their Tequila/Cold Brew/Liquor 43 concoction. Topped with an egg foam cap, it was actually pretty solid. A bit of a gamble, but sometimes you have to roll the dice when the menu is trying that hard. The Culinary "Hit and Miss" Then came the food, or as I like to call it: The Great Consistency Crisis. The Steak: I asked for medium-rare; I received medium-well with a "char" that felt more like a personal vendetta against the cow. The Potatoes: Apparently, potato portions are determined by a lottery system. I received about half the amount of the person next to me. Maybe I didn't look hungry enough? The Eggs: My over-easy eggs had crispy, hard edges and arrived at a temperature I'd describe as "lukewarm at best." We also had to hunt down salt and pepper like we were on a scavenger hunt. Honestly, I probably should have just hit the buffet and cut out the middleman. The Service Our server was perfectly nice, but he appeared to be roughly twelve years old. Since he wasn't legally old enough to understand the complexity of a craft cocktail, he couldn't give us any info on the drink menu. We just had to "go with our gut"--which is a dangerous game when tequila and cold brew are involved. The Verdict I'm not saying I won't be back, but consider this a fair warning: if Round 2 involves another charred steak and a side of "room temperature" eggs, I'll be sending it back for a rerun faster than a shanked drive into the woods. 3/5 Stars -- Great for people-watching, questionable for potato-equity.
