I am going to be honest and fair with this review, feeling that I could pin-point the issue with why the reviews are mixed and also comment upon flavor irregularities. The place is new and part of the anchor restaurants for this new Oldham Village, which is honestly another over-hyped production of twenty-first century strip mall that will fade it's newness after fifteen years and make this place an eyesore, but I digress. What is Q39 but a franchise correct? The original is off of 39th between the Westport and KU Med center area. It may have been the go to "hole in the wall," which any food connoisseur knows those are the best places, and when they get popular the corporate investor execs get greedy and want to bank on the success of the small place. This is what happens to any restaurant or coffee shop, where the original looses its flavor just by opening at a convenient location for the suburbanites who are too afraid to venture into the urban realm. My husband had been wanting to try Q39 for some time, and I was apprehensive since I know how most people in this area don't share the same taste pallet or appetite that I have. I believe we should have gone to the original Q39 when he wanted to try it out several, several years ago. So, when we heard it was coming to L.S. we decided to try it out, even though I knew that most likely it was be tweaked for the suburbanites here. We visited a few days ago ordered the Judge's Plate and the Combo plate. The service was up to speed, so not sure what experiences were bad for others, and we also came midweek just before the dinner crowd, so there's that. I felt as if the staff were trained to serve and act as if this were some destination restaurant, or we lived in a destination city, which we obviously don't. They wanted to know the answer to the typical suburban restaurant, "Have you been here before?" and I made the mistake of saying "No," which invited the charade of treating barbeque like it's new to Kansas City. LOL The food was not bad. The ribs weren't bad either, and the beans? Grandma can make you baked beans just as good, but not like Arthur Bryant's beans. Q39 ribs, pulled pork, brisket and chipotle sausage were just as good as any barbeque restaurant in the suburbs. Remember Dickies? How about Smoke Stack? Although they may be a bit better. The price is just the same here. Overpriced suburban barbeque. If you want fancy lights, updated modern restaurant decor with automated bathroom flush after you use it, and want to pay this upcharge with your barbeque, go for it. The food isn't bad, but you just have to wake up America and know what you are paying for: Convenience in the suburbs.

We are so thankful to have a Q39 closer to home. It seems roomier, inside and out, compared to the others, which is nice. The staff were very welcoming and friendly, from the front door to the wait staff. Our server, Grant, was awesome! He was very friendly and helpful with our questions and requests. He did a great job letting us know about specials and some of the best menu options. One of his recommendations was a whiskey flight of four local bourbons, which I took him up on. They were all easy sippers which I enjoyed. For our food, we started off with the Smoked and Grilled Pork Belly. It's amazing! The pork belly is cooked perfect. The slaw, marmalade, and aioli go so well with the salty and smoky pork. My wife had the Mr. Burns, but substituted brisket for the burnt ends and an order of fries. She loved them both. I tried the Q tacos with brisket. They were delicious. The slaw and aioli went well with the brisket. It'll definitely be in our regular dining out rotation.

Food and drinks are wonderful, second to only their service. Bartenders Phoebe and Brian were both awesome! Great service and great recommendations! The atmosphere is lively, but not loud. Great place for a group or date night. Will return and happy to have them in the LS community.

Food was fantastic and we had a great wait staff. JD and Caleb were some of the best we've experienced on our weekly Friday night dining.

Like another iconic joint in the metro, this one is a former gas station. The brisket at that place is a little bit better. However, everything else that I tried here is spectacular. The sliced brisket was just a little dry. It wasn't bad. The sausage was amazing. It is housemade with green onions and incredible. I generally don't care for sausages that are different, but this one is exceptional and everyone at the table tried it and loved it. The pulled pork was fresh, which is super important and delicious! Wonderful smoky flavor and super tender. They know exactly what they're doing with pork. I'm gonna say that the beans here are the best in the metro. I'm very particular and I don't like beans that are too sweet like Slaps. Those gag me. The Filling Station beans are absolute perfection. Other reviews say the same. The creamy coleslaw was wonderful! My wife put it on her pulled pork sandwich and I had a little bit for dessert because it's sweet. The homemade potato salad was also the best I've had in a long time. We can't wait to return!

The wine bar, for tastings, is right there letting you know wine is a major focus. The selection of wines is also there, each with flavor notes and suggested pairings noted on a card. This provides a pleasant start to an evening. Armed with this information, when we got to the table, we were able to order one for each of us that we thought would suit our pallets. I enjoy sweets so the Scarletto delivered perfectly. My spouse had the Summer Berry Sangria, which she really enjoyed. Along with water and our wines they brought a pretzel bun and butter. It was delicious and I couldn't resist another. We had the prime rib sliders for an appetizer. The accompanying garlic spread was amazing. My wife had the pistachio encrusted grouper came with 3 good sized asparagus spears and mashed potatoes. I sampled and the grouper was about an inch thick, citrus notes and the crust of pistachios slightly salty and good nutty flavor. I had the braised short rib risotto. It had the subtle earthy notes from the mushrooms, totally tender and delicious also. After dinner one of the service ladies refilled my water glass and some accidental spilled in the table. No harm, no foul. But then asked, after cleaning up, if there was anything we would like. I asked for a third pretzel roll and yes, not ashamed, brought it home for tomorrow. Everything else was so good none of it made it to carry home. The restaurant is spotless, plenty of staff in hand to give extra assistance when desired.

I've always enjoyed the wines here and my wife and I enjoy the menu as well. We love the small menu section with healthy items for those who are watching their macros and calories. They also have a nice selection of various pasta dishes, proteins, and seafood. The servers snd staff here are always on point. We have been to a couple of Cooper's Hawk locations and so far this one is our favorite. It doesn't hurt that it's the closest one to our house in Lee's Summit. We make sure to grab our monthly wine bottle and if we are having chicken or fish, especially if it leans Italian, the unoaked Chardonnay is our go to.
