Sweet Auntie Burger
J.R. B.

I really really really wanted to love this place and let me say the people are super sweet and welcoming. The place is clean and feels a bit like a BBQ joint in downtown KC which I liked. The burger was ok and the fries were ok but nothing special and for a place that has "Burgers" in the name I had high expectations. It was $20 for a burger fries and coke, which isn't bad if the food was great but it it wasn't. I got the Sweet Auntie burger so will give them another try, I'm just not sure why I'd come back outside my desire to support a local business.

The BEST burger spot in town! My favorite spot to visit when I am in the Lee's Summit area. Everyone is so friendly when you walk in. There's so much to choose from but I had to get the Unk's Burger and you're able to customize what you want on it. Highly recommend if you never been!

Best of Burgers! Come on, KC, where is the list of the best dive burgers that has Unk's on it? And if there is one I haven't seen it so, please correct me if I'm wrong but, I'm making my own list and Unk's is coming out close to the top...which is exactly where it deserves to be. Maybe it's been forgotten since it's off the beaten path in an unassuming strip mall in Lee's Summit but, the owners are warm, welcoming and were on the local news! So, it should be a well known destination, once I saw them on the news I knew I had to stop by for a sloppy burger and I was so pleased that I did. I was already out in Lees Summit one day with a few friends and we found ourselves starving so, with haste I remembered that Unk's was nearby. We all arrived and beyond my surprise they served beer, first score of the day! (even if the selection is slim to nil beggars can't be choosers) Now, onto the important stuff, the vast variety of unique burger toppings and add ins that Unk's offers. This sets them apart from any other dive bar that serves burgers or smash burger giant chain. You can tell Unk's is family owned when you're proudly offered to try their chili from behind the order counter and man is it brag worthy chili! And yes, you can top your burger with it. Also, notable are the delightful onion rings that Unk's offers as a side, the batter is thick and crispy without soaking up too much grease and it adheres to the ring even when you take a bite, that is a rarity. This time around I went with a burger that was already pre constructed on the Unk's menu and boasted some serious spice! I don't remember the exact name but all I know is it set my mouth on fire, in a good way. It had some variation of habanero or ghost pepper pepperjack cheese which always provides the perfect counterbalance of heat and the creamy reprieve of dairy and also had a generous helping of jalapenos. This burger was the definition of The Ring Of Fire and I enjoyed every bite of it, it was one of those burger eating experiences where throughout you tell yourself you are going to stop eating but you can't. And I didn't regret it one bit, it was such a savory experience from the thin (but not too thin) juicy (but not too fatty) patty and the buttery (but not too greasy) pillowy (but not too soft) bun that I would repeat this burger bite over and over again. Moral of the story, if you haven't tried Unk's and you are a sucker for a divine dive style burger and a dang good onion ring and some top notch chili then stop on by because at Unk's you'll always feel like your family, and leave with a belly full of burger.

This was not my jam. I understand that people like it. But the burgers with the onions, chopped up in them, were not for me. I told the gal at the cash register that I didn't have much time. And she left my burger sitting in the window after it was done for several minutes before I just walked over and grabbed it myself. I hope they continue to do a great business but I can't swing paying $14 for a cheeseburger and a water.

OMG!! Can't say enough about this place, food was amazing!! Best burgers in KC hands down. Not to mention the hospitality was bar none. We got the buddy burger and Bodacious Baked Bean burger... my gosh. The baked beans on the deliciously seasoned burger with an over easy egg had our tastebuds going crazy! The Buddy burger has a seasoned patty, hash brown patty, and onion ring... so good!! I'm pretty sure iv met my calorie count for the week, but I would do it all over again! Go check them out. You won't regret it!!

The dining experience was exceptional. The service and food quality were outstanding. My double smash cheeseburger, featuring pepper jack cheese and seasoned fries, was particularly delightful. This establishment is highly recommended, especially for group dining.

Unk's - love the fries!

I loved the people and I liked how we could order from the table. They have fountain drinks and they had bottled. I usually prefer pop from the fountain but Coke Zero wasn't offered that way so I was very happy when I saw I could get a bottle.

Cheeseburger!

Burn Theory Fire Kitchen - Smothered ham with everything bagel, cheese, and gravy

I'm left wondering... were we in…read morea parallel universe or something‽‽‽ We stopped in after an appointment I'd had on a Monday in Lees Summit. We decided to have a quick early dinner here in town, and did a Yelp search for "great places to eat near me". This place was high in the list. We read the reviews and found ourselves driving around a building that had ZERO markings for the Burn Theory Fire Kitchen on it, but our Maps app said we were here. Turned out, the food for Burn Theory Fire Kitchen was cooked in a food truck in a parking lot and served inside the Diametric Brewing Company which is located at the address listed for Burn Theory Fire Kitchen. I will say, my husband ordered a special beer called "Cherry Street Wheat" and it was very unusual, and seriously tasty!!! I'm not a beer fan, but would drink one of these any day! So, getting back to the food... we'd both ordered a trio of street tacos that we did a mix and match of with their various proteins. We ordered this way to share with each other. We also love to discover new and unusual bites. After reading the reviews and their menu, we were excited for the promise of something uniquely delicious... and were completely disappointed!!! All but one (excluding the shrimp) of the six different tacos we'd ordered, bordered on the inedible side. The proteins were seemingly overcooked, folded into little leathery tortilla shells, and served to our table cold, dry and tough. They tasted as if they had been reheated from the weekends leftovers. Maybe we came on the wrong day. Perhaps if we'd visited on a weekend, or on the same day they were actually cooking the meats initially, we'd had a better experience. I don't know, and frankly do not plan to find out. Additionally, to be fair, their condiments (ie: the Ketchup and BBQ sauce) seemed to be made fresh and made from scratch. They were sadly the best part of our meal. Honorable mention to the Diametric Brewing Company which served us one of the most delicious and unique beers we've ever tasted!

They bring it straight to you when it's done. The guy who brought ours was super nice. He asked if we needed any utensils or sauce. I was just having a beer and then was taking my grub to go so he brought me a bag to carry everything easily. I ordered the Burn Theory Cubano: House smoked ham and pulled pork, melted Swiss cheese, pickles and house made mustard on toasted brioche. This sandwich was huge! It's very shareable if you're ordering sides. The meat was super smoky and I loved the flavor. It's definitely a top 5 Cuban in KC. We ordered several sides: seasoned fries, smoked Mac and cheese, and a Caesar salad. The Caesar salad was good sized and easily shareable as a starter. I liked the house made dressing. If you wanted to have this as an entree, you have the option to add brisket, chicken, or shrimp. I will definitely consider it in the future. The seasoned fries were pretty standard. My boyfriend liked the seasoning and that they didn't put too much on them. My 3 doggos also enjoyed a few. The smoked Mac and cheese was probably my favorite side and I'll have a hard time getting a different one in the future. The Smokey flavor was perfect and not overwhelming. The pasta wasn't overcooked and the sauce was creamy. I end up at Strange Days pretty often and I feel like this is a perfect addition to the area. I'll definitely be ordering from them in the future while I enjoy a beer.

THANKS ERIC (with a C!!) Our food was nicely plated, temperature perfect and portions were VERY generous. The Classic Breakfast was my choice. Eggs cooked as directed, breakfast potatoes, one smallish, breakfast sausage in natural casing. A steak knife would have been helpful. I don't know the brand of bacon they serve, but it was FABULOUS! Thick sliced, prepared beautifully and mmmm, mmmm GOOD! The plate includes a Cheddar Biscuit. It is BIG and delicious LOOKING! I had to bring it, half of my potatoes and the sausage "to go". My husband ordered the Sausage, Egg & Cheese Biscuit. He was not a fan of the less than tasty sausage. #DIL ordered a Chicken Biscuit - - she shared a bite of the chicken. Let's just say, I KNOW what I will be ordering NEXT time we go. Our grandson ordered his favorite Biscuits & Gravy. HUGE portions, suitable for a growing young man. We will be back! P.S. The Gilded Pear cocktail was delicious. The Key Lime Pie was exquisite. Lovely plating and scrumptious. I shared it with my husband PLUS we brought half of it home.

I'm not sure why we were treated that way. When the food arrived, my boyfriend's burger was completely different from what he ordered. He ordered a BBQ burger with extra crispy bacon, but it came with no sauce and no bacon at all. My burger was very dry, and the fries were overcooked. I do like crispy fries, but these were far beyond that. I assume the food issues were a kitchen mistake. On a positive note, the ambiance was nice, and our server was kind and attentive. She checked on us more than three times. My boyfriend is so kind and he didn't want to send the burger back.

As transplants from another state, and BBQ not being our first language, we wanted to try new things! They came to the table and we were all sort of perplexed. Were they supposed to look like...that? Either way, we dug in. They were cold in the middle, also a strange discovery to us. I ordered the burnt ends, which came to the table closer to cold than warm. The blue cheese potato salad was tasty and all it needed was a lil salt and pepper to make it perfect. All was going well, until my husband was about 4-5 bites into his brisket wrap. He asked me to smell it, and I did. It was funky! Smelled a lot like a foot and not a lot like a tortilla. He asked the server to smell it and they agreed it was a bit odd. The manager came over and denied it smelling like anything. My husband had finished his meal, and we weren't looking for a freebie but wanted to let them know it was a lil weird. Instead of acknowledging the potential issue, we were dismissed as "wrong." It just didn't sit right with me. My husband had some definite issues in the hour or two after eating, so we won't be back. I won't say it was food poisoning because genuinely it could have just not agreed with my husband. I'll put my disclaimer on here, I hope people do enjoy and continue to patronize this small business, it's just not to my liking.
