What a welcoming, family owned restaurant! Everyone was friendly. We were greeted by the owner as soon as we walked in. While looking over the menu, we were given a sample of the baked beans, and that completely changed my mind about what I was ordering. I don't remember the exact name of the burger, but it came topped with those baked beans. At first, I had looked at it on the menu and thought, not for me, but after tasting the beans and chatting with the cook about the burger, I was convinced to give it a try. I'm so glad I did because it was absolutely delicious! The burger and fries came out fresh and hot, and everything was seasoned perfectly. My son and I went in for cheeseburgers because we have heard such good things about Unks. My child is cheeseburger obsessed and he LOVED the kids cheeseburger. I had the grilled chicken sandwich with sautéed mushrooms and a side of fried pickles and it was amazing!! They have a huge variety of burgers (including GF gluten-free buns), chicken sandwiches and sides. The thick onion rings and seasoned fries were so fresh and tasty!! Unfortunately, a few moments brought down the experience for us. :( Sticky floors, refusing to offer tap water to refill a water bottle, no paper towels in the women's bathroom, a bit of a funky smell in the dining room, and the burger patties being on the dry side. Best of Burgers! Come on, KC, where is the list of the best dive burgers that has Unk's on it? And if there is one I haven't seen it so, please correct me if I'm wrong but, I'm making my own list and Unk's is coming out close to the top...which is exactly where it deserves to be. Maybe it's been forgotten since it's off the beaten path in an unassuming strip mall in Lee's Summit but, the owners are warm, welcoming and were on the local news! So, it should be a well known destination, once I saw them on the news I knew I had to stop by for a sloppy burger and I was so pleased that I did. I was already out in Lees Summit one day with a few friends and we found ourselves starving so, with haste I remembered that Unk's was nearby. We all arrived and beyond my surprise they served beer, first score of the day! (even if the selection is slim to nil beggars can't be choosers) Now, onto the important stuff, the vast variety of unique burger toppings and add ins that Unk's offers. This sets them apart from any other dive bar that serves burgers or smash burger giant chain. You can tell Unk's is family owned when you're proudly offered to try their chili from behind the order counter and man is it brag worthy chili! And yes, you can top your burger with it. Also, notable are the delightful onion rings that Unk's offers as a side, the batter is thick and crispy without soaking up too much grease and it adheres to the ring even when you take a bite, that is a rarity. This time around I went with a burger that was already pre constructed on the Unk's menu and boasted some serious spice! I don't remember the exact name but all I know is it set my mouth on fire, in a good way. It had some variation of habanero or ghost pepper pepperjack cheese which always provides the perfect counterbalance of heat and the creamy reprieve of dairy and also had a generous helping of jalapenos. This burger was the definition of The Ring Of Fire and I enjoyed every bite of it, it was one of those burger eating experiences where throughout you tell yourself you are going to stop eating but you can't. And I didn't regret it one bit, it was such a savory experience from the thin (but not too thin) juicy (but not too fatty) patty and the buttery (but not too greasy) pillowy (but not too soft) bun that I would repeat this burger bite over and over again. Moral of the story, if you haven't tried Unk's and you are a sucker for a divine dive style burger and a dang good onion ring and some top notch chili then stop on by because at Unk's you'll always feel like your family, and leave with a belly full of burger. read more

I really really really wanted to love this place and let me say the people are super sweet and welcoming. The place is clean and feels a bit like a BBQ joint in downtown KC which I liked. The burger was ok and the fries were ok but nothing special and for a place that has "Burgers" in the name I had high expectations. It was $20 for a burger fries and coke, which isn't bad if the food was great but it it wasn't. I got the Sweet Auntie burger so will give them another try, I'm just not sure why I'd come back outside my desire to support a local business. read more

If you haven't been to Unk's Burger, you simply must. A friend of ours recommended Unk's and and what he said was true great tasting burgers. Once you walk in, you go up to the front counter and the menu is above you and you look what you would like. What was great was that Justen was taking orders and he was terrific in explaining the different types of burgers. In addition, they are mindful of people with gluten allergies and have gluten-free buns and make sure the food is separated to alleviate any cross contamination. I ordered the Unk burger, which has onions in the burger itself, and I added ghost pepper cheese to it. The burger was tasteful and just enough heat from the cheese. I will have to add you must try Unk's beans. They have a great flavor to them. And as an appetizer, the fried pickles are amazing. I totallyrecommend Unk's burgers in Lees Summit. Anything with lots of fat and grease will be tasty. 2nd, when I got there I had to communicate my order no less than about 5 times. 3rd, it took about 25 minutes to get my to go order, which was only 2 burgers and fries and I was the only person there. 4th, to say this is an inexpensive burger joint is completely false. 2 meals with tip was over $45. I have enjoyed the taste of Unks burgers in the past, but I am very disappointed with their service. They have messed up my orders twice in a row, and they have refused to fix their mistakes or refund my money. I paid extra for toppings and sides that I did not receive, and they did not even apologize properly. They said "we don't offer refunds or remakes but will talk to the chef and call back",but they never did. I think this is very unprofessional and disrespectful to their customers. This restaurant blew away all of our expectations! As soon as you walk in the delicious smell of burgers fill the air! We were promptly greeted by smiling staff & seated at a roomy table for my husband, son & I. Our server was very knowledgeable on the menu items (which come at a very fair price). They lay paper down on the table for patrons to doodle & draw on, then select ones are put on the wall as decoration for their very happy clients. The manager (maybe even the owner, I wasn't clear on his title) was a super comical fixture of the restaurant, his smile lit up the room as he checked on each table to ensure satisfaction. Don't remember how I found this place (had to be social media) but I am so glad that I did because the food was awesome. My husband and I placed an online order (the process was so easy) and he drove to pick it up. We had the unk burger, wings, curly fries and a kids meal. My only complaint is that it is a little pricey but the food was so good you forget you spent an arm and a leg. We do plan on returning. It was worth the drive and the soggy fries.
