We popped by here on a sunny day for some drinks and sweet potato fries. Everything was fantastic. The sweet potato fries are delicious-- the sauce was interesting. It was good, yet I couldn't quite get myself to like it. It was a peanut aioli that was a little chunky with some pepper undertones. Luckily, the fries themselves are so yummy I didn't need it! We (six of us) walk in on a beautiful Friday evening, get seated in the patio outside!! Our server takes our drink orders and brings them out in 10 mins.Well I had ordered a virgin mojito he brings in the wrong one so I request for the one I specified and guess what it took him another 15/20 mins to get me my virgin mojito..that too after calling him and reminding him of my drink which he screwed up on the first go and guess what he says, "I know my bar is slow it will be out!"..WTH!! Worst service from the start till the end. Next me and my husband ordered duck and grits and we asked him if it was a shareable entree since we weren't super hungry and he said yes and guess what the portion was tiny and mind you all we are small eaters so when I say tiny it literally means TINY!!It clearly shows he has no knowledge of the menu. The duck and grits were just OK the grit was in a cake form unlike a purée form and the duck was all shredded totally not what I was expecting!!Though the sauce was decent but the texture was not to my taste!!I have had some best grits in Nola so I know my Grits well!! Well then came the steak and pierogies... The steak was tender and delicious , good flavoring and was cooked to perfection but the pierogies lacked taste they were just filled with potatoes and cheese no flavor whatsoever. FOOD: Hearty breakfast food-- pretty good staples and large portions, nothing super creative/amazing but nothing awful. Coffee is a must in my opinion, and theirs is always piping hot and delicious. I must admit that I've only ever had breakfast here, and the hours make this a go-to spot after night shifts. AMBIENCE: The indoor space is full of light and spacious, with booths and tables galore. The patio is really nice, and you have a great view of the River and the bridge. RESTROOMS: A few stalls shared between the businesses in the building. Acceptably clean. The place is located right next to Mississippi River and on Lake St in Minneapolis. The neighborhood is beautiful. I would suggest everyone to walk around the area after eating here. Every time I come here, their service is always spectacular. They are friendly and fast. I find their food OK. They serve regular food from burgers to tacos. The tastes are nothing special but they have good happy hour deals though. I had Pisco Sour once and it was my favorite. The bartender did a good job on that. Great atmosphere and if you get a chance try to sit outside because it is nice. I suggest everyone to download BluePlate app (it is free and you can earn rewards). It was my first time here. I was like "wow, I guess it's pretty popular here" since there was a wait. Well... it was dinner time. There were some seats open at the bar so we decided to sit there which was nice- faster service. The bartenders were friendly too. He helped me decide on what to get. We are living a terrible moment, a resurgence of the virus and the tables are not clean properly. The silverware comes wrapped in paper napkins exposed. A pity. The place is nice, the surroundings are beautiful. The patio is quite nice. The service is very good and attentive and helpful. Now, 4 Stars for the food. The cheese curds were very good, The Fish and Chips very well prepared. The Flourless Chocolate Cakes delicious. Came for dinner and left very happy! Ordered the chicken and waffles - the gravy was delicious and the waffle was nice and fluffy. The chicken was a little plain and not as crispy as I would've liked. The steak and periogis were delicious! The steak was cooked beautifully at medium and the periogis melted in your mouth. I also enjoyed the different cocktails, my favorite being the dynamic duo. For dessert, we tried the banana cream pie. It was deconstructed but was marvelous! I've been here several times and I've never been disappointed. The steak salad is one of my go tos, along with the sweet potato fries and aoli dipping sauce - oh my gah, they're so good! The kids meals are always well balanced. The service has always been fast and friendly. I have normally only been here for lunch and dinner but today I had the brunch. The breakfast tostadas were so good! It was basically a fried taco shell in the shape of a bowl filled with chorizo, black beans, scrambled eggs, gauc and topped with Crema and goat cheese. Devine. I tried Ma's Meatloaf because I love beef, but wanted some other than a burger. It was delicious! Had never tasted such delicious meatloaf.The mashed potatoes and vegetables were delicious as well. We were seated on the patio, as this was the first 70+ degree day of 2021. As the weather cooled, the heaters were turned on, which made the last 30 minutes even nicer. James was a great server. I enjoy Longfellow Grill for its simple menu, but great flavor and quality of ingredients. I started ordering from Longfellow during Covid and the food was always fresh and ready quickly. The outdoor space is nice and right along the Mississippi River Road. First off the fries here are so delicious, they are flavorful and crispy and even with takeout they are amazing. I've had the Beet Salad a couple time and it's huge. They give you a whole container of herbed goat cheese and they don't skimp on the beets. Burgers are always good, juicy, and packed with flavor. They have a good breakfast menu. It's simple but the food is good. It will continue to be a go-to when im craving some American food. read more

I recently came for a birthday happy hour with some coworkers, and we had a great experience. The host happily rearranged tables on the patio for our party of 8, and even set the high chair before seating me. (Side note - why isn't this a standard thing? I'm always wildly frustrated when I've asked for a high chair and then I'm seated before the it's at the table. You understand that this means I have to awkwardly lurk next to the table holding my toddler until you bring the high chair, right? Anyway, I digress.) Longfellow, as do most Blue Plate restaurants, has a pretty good happy hour menu with compelling drink offerings and a nice variety of food choices. I availed myself of a few pints of Insight Brewing's Sunken City, as well as the Merc Burger (excellent), steak sandwich (petite, but delicious), shrimp & sausage skewer (good but not super exciting), and truffle potato planks (disappointing, although I learned my kid is really into truffle aioli). Overall our server did an amazing job handling our table - we were admittedly loud, and (with two small kids in tow) a little on the rowdy side. She kept everyone well fed, well hydrated, and was very accommodating when it came to splitting the check. The only reason this is a 4-star rating and not a 5-star rating is because of how the happy hour drink specials work - it's 2 for 1 tap beer and single pour cocktails (which is awesome), but they have to be the same drink (no mix & match beers, even if they're the same price) and they bring them both out at the same time. HOWEVER this cost should be absorbed by the company and not passed on to your customers. From a company that owns establishments like Freehouse, Edina Grill, the Lowry and more, they're not strapped for cash. One star off for greed/lazy bookkeeping on the part of the management company. It honestly makes it tough to want to continue to support businesses that don't want to dip into their own profits to make these resources available for their employees. Now, back to the beginning. Lately my fiancé and I have been finding ourselves over towards the Mississippi River so we've been trying to explore restaurants, breweries and coffee shops in the area. I'd seen signs for the Longfellow Grill crossing the Marshall Ave bridge for years but had never thought to stop in. Until tonight. It was between here and another local establishment but ultimately chose LG for their more expansive menu - and outdoor seating options. There's a paid lot attached to the building but we just found street parking in the neighborhood nearby. The restaurant was busy but we were seated instantly. Turner was our server and found the perfect balance of being friendly without being overbearing. While there were so many great options to pick from, the Szechuan salad was a no brainer for me, wanting something with Asian-inspired flavors but leaning towards the lighter side. The steak was perfectly grilled and just enough dressing to give it flavor without over saturating it. My fiancé started with a "small" salad and an order of the appetizer wings. The food arrived quickly. It was the old joke about the food being terrible and the portions being too small. Actually, the food was okay, just bland and uninspired. But the portions were truly lacking. We were both still hungry after finishing our meal. The staff was efficient and friendly. The service was quick, bordering on rushed and a touch too informal for my taste. There were no breakfast specials. The best part was the hash browns, crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. This is a fantastic brunch stop worth checking out. I came here for a reunion with some friends I hadn't seen in a long time and it was my first time here. The main reason I really walked away loving this place? Service. Wow the service exceeded my expectations. It might have been the two Bloody Mary's I had while I was here, but I wanted to hug our server before we left. He was friendly in a truly honest way, efficient and never let our waters or drinks dwindle to a sad end. I ordered the Biscuits & Gravy ($10.50) - savory, delightfully glutenous and the bread underneath crisped just right. A home run. My friend got the Breakfast Tostadas ($10.95) and they were just beautiful in a way that breakfast can rarely be with it's heaps of food. The Bloody Mary's we ordered were stellar: Just the right amount of spice and a perfect garnish (Now, they aren't showboating with a chocolate eclair and full chicken wing up there because they don't seem to be a kitchy-boutiquey brunch place with catch phrases and weird stuff that masks the true essence of who they are). If you want a solid Bloody Mary this will trip your trigger I promise. Here's something else I loved: They didn't rush us by turning our table as fast as possible. We stayed there for 3 glorious hours because we had a lot of catching up to do. Never once did I feel like I was unwelcome, even though it was busy. I get it, it's prime time on Sundays mid-morning & so often I've seen a 'too soon' flick of the wrist when a server drops off our bill about half-way through the meal. It makes me feel awkward. I guess this fact adds to my first point, the service is great and you'll feel welcome here no matter how long you decide to hang out. The only con I can think of is the fact that they don't have a parking lot. I parked one block up on a residential street. No biggie, it is Minneapolis after all. I was excited to see that the Longfellow Grill was so close to my home in the Longfellow neighborhood. However, I've been disappointed in my visits thus far. I've tried both their lunch and dinner menu items. Every experience and meal I've had here has been lackluster. I would describe the food as "fine," but certainly nothing stands out to me. All my meals have also taken quite a bit of time to come out. I recall going for a quick lunch with a friend, which ended up being a nearly 2 1/2 hour lunch. One draw to Longfellow Grill is their large outdoor patio. Of course, this is only enjoyable during the summer months, which in Minnesota does not last long. read more

We have met at the Grill for breakfast on several occasions and find both the food and service wanting: a) meals arrive cold and often missing an item or the wrong item b) for a breakfast, the price/value is out of line c) the wait staff is responsive when issue is called to their attention and dutifully replace items these experiences are during the week and early morning with a low number of patrons and tables. It was good. I know I am a giant pain in the rear end when I go out to eat. I ask a thousand questions about the menu becasue it's CRITICAL that I make the best possible decision. I am super nice about it though. Anyways, the server was in training so there were two of them and I asked a million questions about their salads before settling on the spinach salad with added chicken. I also got some kind of blackberry poblano margarita concoction that was delicious. My servers were patient and indulged all my questions. The drank was good, not too sugary. The salad was good and came with a giant chunk of brie, which was awesome, and a corn muffin. My friend liked his sandwich too. Overall nothing blew us away, gfood was basic, but solid. Its been a while since I had been here, and it had been a while because my previous several visits had sucked. I don't know why I thought this time would be any different, but the wife and I had got a babysitter and were going to see a movie at the Riverview and Longefellow Grill was close, so... We arrived at 5:10 and put our name in and were quoted a wait time of 20 minutes. We left at 6:00pm with two groups still in front of us. I understand you can get a wait time wrong, but when it is that wrong, its just plain lying. While we waited, I went up to the bar to order beers. Getting anyone's attention to receive help was a Herculean task that was only accomplished by a group of strangers banding together to get the bartender's attention. This bearded hipster was moving at such a snail's pace, and served me with such disdain that I wanted to leave and be done with it right then and there. But at that time I believed we were close to being seated and so gutted it out. I went up to ask about the wait time at one point and explained we were going to see a movie, and needed to decide if we should fish or cut bait and find another place. I was told were were next. About 10 minutes later I watched a couple get seated and went up to ask how if we were next how come they were seated. "Next" and "seated right away" are interchangeable here, and both are factually inaccurate. I recalled as we drove away hungry that the last time we were there we waited for a table for twice the wait time that was quoted. I won't go back here. Ever. In my life. I live five blocks from Groveland Tap and Scuzi and slightly further to Highland Grill. Its going to be a long time before I return to those places, or any Blue Plate restaurant again.
