I went to the LJS listed as the best by Yelp people (corner of 19th Ave and Bell). I bought the "all you can eat"(*) Sunday special. The place was clean, the staff friendly and helpful. I asked for a mix of fish fillets and chicken breasts, and kernel corn as one of my sides. But they said only french fries, coleslaw or hush puppies were available as sides. That didn't really bother me, as I don't much care for fries, slaw or hush puppies anyway. And more room in my belly for the main attraction. I'd have ordered corn and green beans, were they available. So: I was pleased with my trip. The food was very good. Maybe the best =cheap= seafood I've had. And as I said, the place was clean and the staff was nice. I wound up eating three fish fillets, three chicken breasts and a fountain for $11.8 (including tax) at today's prices [Sun Apr 14]. Given the quality of the food, I'd say that is a bargain. If they would build one closer to me I'd eat there often. But the closest is about a half hour away, so I only get there if I have another reason to be near them, like a doctor's appointment. * I think calling your offer "all you can eat" is a mistake. Ahhhh a clean restaurant! I ate hear because this is my boyfriend's favorite of any of the other locations and it's the only one that is only a Long John Sliver's and not a taco bell or co-branded restaurant. It's their "Flagship" location with Cape Cod style structure (blue roof) and nautical themed decor. Of course we had the fish and chips, I mean c'mon! They took my order with a smile and brought it to my table when it was ready. Who does that anymore? The batter was crispy and food was good. I was most impressed with how clean the condiments on the table were, you almost never see that so it was surprising, in a good way. So please pass the malt vinegar! While we were eating, a hard working employee was cleaning all of the tables with a smile. I can see why this place is so popular. If you haven't checked this place out, I recommend you do. I've never been hear on Talk Like a Pirate Day but I heard it's a big deal at Long John Silver's. Psst...if you like extra crispies (fried batter crumbs) they're on the secret menu. This Long John Silvers location is considered one of their "flagship" locations. They test new meals there to see if the customers will like it before it goes to all of their locations. The restaurant is always clean, the drive thru is fast, the food is served hot and fresh, it doesn't ever come out stale or overly greasy. The employees are nice and friendly. My husband and I always ring the bell as we are leaving to let the employees know how much we enjoyed our food. We have been coming here for the past 10 years. There aren't many of the original Long John Silver's left. Many of the newer ones are incorporated with Taco Bell and don't offer the full menu. This one does, which is one reason to come here over others. This location is clean, counter people are courteous. Food is delivered hot. The food is fried and super salty, but it delivers the same Long John Silver's flavor you remember from years ago. They also offer broiled healthier options at the ones that have a full menu. Fried LJS is always great, but not healthy of course. The baked fish entrees are yummy, and healthier. But portions are barely enough. I wish they would put out coupon sheets in the mail or newspaper more often like they used to. Prices are a little high for the meals that come with drinks. 10% corporate discount is nice, even though some of the personnel have to be reminded that it is still valid. The managers always approve it. Usually the restaurant is very clean. I wish they had the small ice cubes that look like rabbit droppings. Hubby found himself with a sudden craving for Lon John Silver's, and turns out this is the one closest to us. He thought there was one by the Harkins North 16 but it seems that has been gone for a few years now... So we made the trip to this one. Service was good, food was OK. Place was clean. We got the 2 meals for $10, and we both selected the fish and chicken plate. The only things were that they were out of tartar sauce and we had to wait a while to have it refilled. Also, I asked for lemons or limes and I was utterly surprised when they got me some plastic packets... yes, I am that naive, I was expecting real life lemons, but that says more about me than about them. My wife and I have frequently visited this restaurant primarily for the shrimp. In the past it has been excellent in our opinion. We went there last evening and were sorely disappointed. The shrimp were not of good quality and they are approximately 30% smaller than before. What a disappointment! Don't want to go back for another experience like that one. Every so often I crave the taste of their fish, so off I go...this location is reasonably close to my residence, but located at a very busy intersection, just plan ahead. I try to get here near dinnertime to avoid the wait of freshly cooked fish. It's nice that they don't keep it sitting for awhile, but sometimes I am starving and don't enjoy the wait. Drove through Thursday night and got one of their platters for my son, and I asked for the 2 chicken planks, fries, and hush puppies for myself. I get up to the window after an incredibly long wait, and paid for my food. Should have checked the bag before driving off. Reached into the bag to make sure my son's dessert was in there, when I discovered my order was missing! I quickly called the restaurant and spoke to someone who, after checking my order, insisted I only ordered two lone pieces of chicken. Say what??? Who does that?? And these people want $15 an hour??? Hands down, Long John Silvers has the best fried fish and I'm not joking. I've been going there since I was a kid, and I've never been disappointed, and that's coming from someone who doesn't really like fish. The fish is of great quality and the crispy batter is delicious. The cole slaw is also tasty. The one thing that could be improved upon are the fries, but the hushpuppies kind of make up for that. This particular location is very clean, and has a fun nautical diner-like interior. The manager of the place is super nice and always greets me and my family when we come in. long johns is delicious if you go there between 10 and 2, if you go any later your shrimp will be fried in old grease. it will taste very burnt, not to mention the shrimp are very small. but during 10 and 2 the shrimp are big, golden and oh so good. i love the fish at anytime of day (well maybe before 5) they do hold on to that old grease you'll taste a huge difference in taste from opening vs late in the evening...i'll just make it plain and simple, just go right when they open just to be on the safe side. read more

Perfect crispy light and airy breading/coating on the fish- tender, moist perfectly cooked fish inside- with no weird brown/grey parts inside! I have been to quite a few fish 'n' chips places in and around Phoenix, and sadly there aren't very many here. I've tried George n Dragons and a few other so called English pubs around town- and Long Johns has much better taste and quality. Their fries are absolutely scrumptious- they taste hand made not frozen. I used to visit Long Johns as a kid and they were terrible. They must have changed their recipe, because it's really just wonderful now. Don't laugh- bring home a basket of their food and serve it to the family and ask them how it is. THEN tell them it's Long Johns. They must put some secret ingredient in it that's addictive. Overall, they do NOT taste like fast food at all. It's better than the restaurant stuff anywhere in Phoenix and cheaper too. I had a hard time sharing small bits of fish with the cats, they fought over it! Really, really delicious. I used to be a hard core Long John Silver, not so much now since they changed their batter, but I still stop there once in a while. Last night we went out to run some errands and so some shopping, found ourselves by LJS on 18th Ave and Bell Rd. In the old days, this used to be a great location. Here's our experience last night. We went in and no one was in siggt6, we waited I would say about 4-5 mins. We were calling "hello...hello" nothing. We could hear them yapping in the back. Some guy was cleaning the bathroom heard us and went and told them that we were there. We order our food and sit, they bring it out, and a few mins the food comes out. We start to eat and we all look at each other. Out food was cold. All 3 meals, including the fries and hush puppies. My son took all the food up to the counter and told the, I believe it was a manager, that the food is cold. She said that they serve it at 145°. He told her to touch it. She did and said "OH". Now by then it was getting late, after 7:30 and we needed to get going, we have a child that needs to go to school the next morning, they did offer to cook us fresh food but that would have been another 15 mins. So we got our money back and left. What a let down night that was. We do not have a location near us so we were excited to eat there. For a fast food place LJS has or I should say had decent food, it's a shame to see it go down hill. They have already closed over 800 locations. If they do not pay attention to what is going on, bring back the quality of good they had and their good batter that made them succeed in the first place, they won't be around much longer. read more

Since they became combo restaurants with Taco Bell and A&W (most closed) they have gone downhill. The best location was at 55th Av and Indian School years ago. The staff was great food always on point and we always rang the bell when we left. I joined the online club and got a coupon for joining so I tried the location at 91st Ave. & Northern they do not honor the coupons and I see from reviews the other locations don't either so crossing them off my list. read more

We live down in Tucson and have lived down there for 40 plus year and the first 25 years or so we had long John silvers at 22nd and Alvernon... I do not know what ever happened to them but I always loved there food. So when we were on our way home from Flagstaff we had to stop and see if the food was has good as I remember. My three boys had never even had a chance to experience a chicken plank... And I really thought that I was going to probably be disappointed since I haven't had it in so long but it was outstanding. It tasted just like I remembered... The customer service was absolutely outstanding... We will definitely be back. I know it's not the healthiest choice in the world... But if one has decided that tonight is not the night that you're going to eat healthy go a head and do it right and get some long John Silvers. I will be updating this tomorrow when I can find the manager's name the help this out he was fantastic and if he ends up reading this before I talk to him thank you for your great customer service you made our trip back to Tucson so satisfying with all that food...
