I'm a regular and I come here about twice a month, food is good, never cold, and the employees are always kindhearted and sweet. Service speed depends on the day, really. Sometimes it'll take 10 minutes for your food to come out sometimes 5. The cheesecake is by far my favorite thing here. Don't try the Reeses' PB one, it's gross. Its a quiet place and I rarely ever see people eat here which makes me scared that this place is gonna shut down soon. I hope it doesn't. read more

Had a busy day today and I was near the area and decided to pop into Long John Silver's. The parking lot was full of cars and sure enough. The inside of the restaurant and the drive-through were busy. I walked in and was able to order right away, which was very good considering I was in a hurry. The menu has options ranging from fried clams to shrimp and two types of fried fish, a white fish and cod, and they now offer chicken. I also noticed that they offer a grilled variety, but I did not take the time to look to see what kind of fish it was or if it included chicken. I ordered a two piece meal with two sides. The meal also included two hush puppies and I added a fountain drink. It took a few minutes to get my food, which was good, to me that means they don't have food just sitting around, waiting to be served. When I picked up my order, indeed it was fresh. My sides with this meal, were waffle fries and coleslaw. In terms of condiments, the restaurant offers malt vinegar, which is always a favorite of mine when I eat fish and chips. They also offered white tartar sauce, shrimp sauce, hot sauce, and ketchup. My fish was piping hot. I had to wait a minute to eat it and when I finally was able to, it was delicious. It was crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside. I was pleasantly surprised by the waffle fries. They were very tasty, I like them much better than Chick-fil-A's. They were seasoned just right and had the perfect fluffy texture. The coleslaw was amazing. It almost tasted like KFC's however what I liked about this coleslaw was that it was shredded cabbage instead of chopped cabbage...way to go long John Silver's! I normally don't like hush puppies but I decided to try one this time. It was so delicious, almost like I was eating a giant Funyuns! Yum! The restaurant was nice and tidy. There were a lot of tables and chairs and they were clean. The counter and drink area was also clean while I was eating. There was a worker going around, tidying up additional tables and picking up trays and wiping down the condiment counter and around the trash cans. That is always a good sign! From where I was sitting, it looked like the crew that was working at the restaurant just before 5 PM was running a pretty efficient shop. I was very disappointed. I hadn't been to a Long John Silver's in a couple of decades. I saw they were running a BOGO platter special and thought I'd give it a try. I ordered using the app at 1:15pm for 2pm pickup. The food was ready when I got there, but already cold. They must have cooked it when I ordered it not just before my pickup time. $20 got me a piece of Alaskan pollock and 2 pieces of all-white meat chicken, 6 crispy shrimp; and a big handful of popcorn shrimp. Paired with sides and 4 hushpuppies. My sides were: waffle fries, coleslaw, green beans and cheddar cheese bites. Sounds like enough to have leftovers, it really wasn't. The fried food was about half waffle fries by volume. My first bite was into a piece of pollock, which was tough. I didn't know that deep fried fish could be tough. The waffle fries were essentially plastic and had no flavor. The chicken and crispy shrimp had the same batter coating as the fish. They came close to having flavor, but no. The coleslaw and green beans were ite. Nothing special commercial food. The cheddar cheese bites, being cold did not impress. Popcorn shrimp is a fun food. Tartar sauce and malt vinegar packets were in the bag. I found out later that they have other sauces in packets, which didn't help the shrimp after I left the parking lot. All I have to compare it to is sit down restaurants and the couple of times I have fried fish myself. Considering the volume of food they sell; there is no excuse for such low quality and small pieces. California Fish Grill and Mossman's will remain my go to for fish n chips. read more

And y'all, I'm gonna tell ya, hush puppies don't grow on trees, but from the uncharted island that is home to the Hushlilipuppian people and their leader and Long John's half-brother, Short Ned Silver. When I was a kid, I used to think Long John Silver's was upscale for fast food. They served quality food with a smile, not to mention the best slice of pecan pie. Nowadays, it's comparable to Taco Bell. The customer service level has declined, and the quality of the food has become subpar. Today's visit reinforced just that. But, I still enjoy their fish and chips and don't want this establishment to close down. It's the last of it's kind in town, since the other locations had closed a few years ago. I just wish they didn't have to hurry their customers just because they have a line. When I tried to finish my order over the intercom, I was interrupted and rushed to finish. Just went to Long John Silver's on Ming. I got the two fish and three chicken with double waffle fries and my Mother got the fish and shrimp . We have a large truck, and the parking lot was extremely crowded. There's no way to, maneuver a large vehicle like this in such a small parking lot. More consideration needs to be looked at towards the customer. Also my Mother as, the employee if our condiments were in the bag. We were assured that, they were. I was pleasantly surprised to see signage promoting this new item on the street as well as when in the drive through. I drive all the way from Valencia to come and have long John silvers as there are none near me. And every time I come I want to love this place. But the service always makes me question my decision making. Most of their food is fried. So there's not a lot of interpretation to have. It's either cooked perfectly or over cooked or undercooked but usually because it's on timer, I never have any issues with the quality. What I have issues with are the service levels and sometimes inventory. I gave it a three because it wasn't horrible. But it wasn't fantastic. It's always a long long long long long long long long wait and drive through. I'm not sure why. You place your order at the speaker, and they have enough time to drop it in the fryer and move it along. But for some reason it's always a long wait. So if you like fish and chips, I recommend this place. It's the best chance you'll get at fast food fish and chips. But really if you're in Bakersfield, I recommend Mossman's fish and chips. Worst of all, the food is a hit or miss (mostly miss). My grandpa got horrible food poisoning from Long John Silvers and we have never gone again. It had been years since I last visited this location, but yesterday, in the midst of this crazy pandemic, I had a sudden craving for their chicken strips. And the fries I would put up against any burger joint, franchise or otherwise, that I have visited. To the Aesthetics, to the aromas of the food, Long John Silvers is a great restaurant with great food. At this particular location looks unassuming but it is the definition of underrated Fried Chicken strips and Fried Fish. The Chicken, for me atleast, never has any fatty, super chewy pieces I find in a lot of restaurants so commonly, I was suprised about how consistent the chicken was and the fries and hushpuppies are absolutely the best.
