There are thousands of these diners in the metroplex all with basically the same menu and same type of food. This cafe with prime real estate on Main Street I assumed would turnover tables quickly and arm their staff with some kind of structure and process- this was not the case. We came on a Sunday and it was surprisingly tame- no wait, a few scattered tables here and there, I expected to be in and out in 45 minutes. Two hours later we left with our bellies at least full, but it was stressful and exhausting to watch it all unfold. When we were first seated, it took a very long time to get our drinks ordered and we had to watch others who were seated after us be taken care of before anyone had spoken to us for quite some time. After forgetting about us, I finally flagged someone down and asked for a coffee and they apologized and the drinks came pretty quickly. We then waited 25 minutes for our food to come out. They seemed extremely backed up in the kitchen and the lobby kept getting more and more crowded. My husbands order was slightly wrong, but no use sending it back at this point. It would only take more time and we just wanted to get out of there. Alone and forgotten at our table we finished our meal without water refills and asked for the check 10 minutes into our meal hoping by the time we were done eating we'd have the check and be out the door. Food was very good. I ordered the chicken fried steak with gravy. It was very well done. Tasty seasoning in the breading and not greasy which I really appreciate. I asked for crispy hashbrowns and they were perfect. I ordered a biscuit with it which was yummy. The waitress brought me more gravy quickly when I requested some. My friend ordered the Boursin toast which she enjoyed, but would have liked a thinner piece of toast instead of TX toast thickness. She ordered 1 pancake and shared a bite. Food, atmosphere and service were all excellent. The menu offered a wide selection at good prices and the items we ordered were delicious. The restaurant was immaculate and the music relaxing. I love Grapevine and I try to support local businesses but it's hard when server doesn't understand what you are trying to order off the menu... why are the owners trying to be the servers ?... this was the last time I'll be going to lone star cafe, the woman owner swiped my credit card like 6 times, she said "no paper coming out, it's not working" I called my CC company and they said, "yes it's working, I see the transaction in our system" but woman owner kept swiping my card. Instead of her, trying to figure it out if her system was messed up, she just asked me just to give her another card, she didn't want to do any work. At the end, she left the man owner to deal with us and she went to the back. I could tell she was annoyed but I wasn't rude it all, I just showed her phone with my credit card app opened to show her that transaction was pending, that it was not my card, it was possible her system. But anyways, don't waste your time if you want to have a nice breakfast with your family with no issues. We moved from NY/NJ area and had been missing diners that serve quality but simple diner food. After trying several places with disappointment, we finally found the one that we love. It might look a bit underwhelming from the look outside but once you enter in the restaurant, the decoration is nice and modest and gives you a good cozy feeling of being in a diner. We ordered some breakfast items and we all love the food. Coffee was also good compared to some of coffee we tasted at other diners. in this area. Ordered food here when we visited the vintage railroad. We got the migas and chorizo skillet and a side of pancakes. The skillet was 70% cottage potatoes, which made it very heavy and also unappetizing . The migas were okay, the hasbrowns were barely cooked on the outside. The tortillas had a weird after taste. Went here earlier this morning with my girlfriend and was more than delighted to try this down home Texas Cafe for brunch. It is located right off the highway on main street adjacent to the Saltgrass on the other side of the highway. At first glance- it looks below average with outdated bland white paint and one door in the front. Once inside, it's a party. Was greeted by a young waitress who promptly got us; menu's and drinks. Within a few minutes the actual waitress that was assigned to our table greeted us with a smile on her face. I ordered 3 pancakes, 2 scrambled eggs and an order of hash-browns that were fit for a king. Only 2 items that kind of turned me off were; lack of actual table space (sitting area too small) and the amount of food served for 2 eggs was about 3 bites. The last time we were here might have been almost 2 years ago! The interior of the Cafe is updated but the food went downhill.

The manager is the hostess and also takes your order. The waitress brings the drinks and food only. The manager tells everyone that comes in 20 minutes but it was longer. They have many clean open booths and tables but don't seat people. I guess they don't have enough help. The pecan waffle was good. The skillet was like someone just tossed some things in. I thought the cheese would be melted more because that helps keep everything together. No one really checked on us to see how everything was. It's like her is your food and that's it. We didn't get a check or told how to pay. So we were ready to go after being there for over an hour for brunch. I would not recommend unless you have a lot of time and no kids. read more

There were three in my party and we all ordered something different. The overall consensus as the food was great and the price for all three was under $45.00. We weren't in a hurry so it didn't matter but is worth pointing out as it was noticeable. I had pancakes, eggs and sausage and Bae had a burger and fries. I vacillated between giving a 3 or 4 and I'm a nice person so I went for the 4 but really it was a 3.25. I don't know if I was impressed enough to go back. Faith was my server and apologized for my short wait. I like that because I understand you are busy sometimes. From that point forward service was "lightning fast". After I ordered, I had my food in under 10 minutes. The food was hot and presented very nicely. The menu has many items making it tough to select but forcing you to return to try the other items!
