They have surprisingly good food for a hole-in-the-wall restaurant located in the countryside just down the street from Amarillo Dragway where we spent our weekend. It's a no frills bar and grill with a pool table, some tv's, and a good size menu which includes steaks. I cannot express enough how friendly and welcoming the owner (I'm assuming) of the restaurant was, he was a true delight. I order the 12 oz Ribeye with baked potato (fries option) and it came with a side salad. When I try a new steak place I always order my meat medium rare so it doesn't get over cooked, that was a mistake here. They know how to cook to the proper doneness, so order with confidence. I sent my steak back for a couple more minutes and it was fine. The loaded baked potato was perfectly cooked and delicious. There was one odd thing, the meal comes with the tiniest serving of beans I've ever seen. It was in one of those little plastic cups you get at fast food places to put your ketchup in and was only half full. I think that if they can't give a proper serving size they should probably just skip this addition because it looks thrifty. My husband ordered the 18 oz Ribeye cooked medium and it was outstanding! It is a thicker cut of meat and had a really beautiful char on the outside. This is the steak I will order in the future. It's too much to eat in one sitting, but I will happily take it home. read more

Stopped by the day after Thanksgiving and the steak was wonderful! Grace and I split the 24oz and it was so flavorful and perfect for two. I asked for A1 steak sauce forgetting that we were in Texas. Grace had a fully loaded baked potatoe and I picked the onion rings. Yummm to both. Jack has the 12oz rib eye and he loved it. We ended our meal by splitting the peach cobbler with ice cream. We had plans to eat at the Big Texan but thought we would give Lone Star a try since it was just 2 miles from where we were staying. We were so satisfied with our meals that we returned the next day and never made it to the Big Texan. The first visit we both had the Ribeye & baked potato. Both were super tasty and cooked perfectly. On the second visit we were not disappointed by a burger & chicken sandwich with fries. If you take Washington St. and go south past I-27 and past TX-335 and then go west on FM 1151 (Claude Hwy). It'll be on your left. You'll think you're lost because all you see is fields and farms. Then, out of nowhere, there's this little dive bar with a gravel parking lot. That's Lone Star Bar and Grill. Be careful when you pull into the parking lot - they have a giant dog as a mascot. He's perfectly friendly, but he's just roaming the parking lot at night so drive slowly! Decided to try this place out after a coworker of mine raved about it. Brought a few of my favorite people and decided to make a night out of it. Right after walking in, I was very conscious that we were the only people of ethnicity in attendance. I thought it would be really uncomfortable, but the owners made us feel right at home. There's a pool table in the middle of the place, a pinball machine, some arcade machines and a really nice jukebox. Seriously, it's a BOSE jukebox with touchscreen. Fancy! So there's a lot to do besides eating and drinking. It's like a Dave and Busters in the boonies. I ordered the 18oz. ribeye ($24), which at the time, was the smallest ribeye they offered. It was HUGE, but not very well seasoned. It seriously tasted like they just slapped it on the grill and that's it. I would've loved to at least have some A1. My wife ordered the burger ($10), which was much more seasoned and tasted pretty good. My friend ordered the bacon-wrapped filet, which was tiny, but at least it had a lot more flavor. The french fries are a very crispy and tasty side. After dinner, we decided to play some pool. Each game is 50 cents, but don't worry if you don't have quarters. They'll be more than happy to add it to your tab. This is a great place to hang out with your friends, kick back, play some pool, listen to Johnny Cash on the jukebox and eat some hearty beef. Unfortunately, they're only open for dinner on the weekdays and the food is a little too expensive and not as well flavored as it should be. Still, this is a charming dive. The peach cobbler & coffee were pretty tasty to boot. They even supplied us with our own fly swatter! We chatted with the proprietor, who said that they'd bought it in August (so it's under new management). My husband and I both had the bacon wrapped Filrt, which was tender and perfectly cooked. I just got back home after being gone for 17 years and my brother took me here for steak. Steak was over price and tough. Didn't care for the swarm of flies in the building! Service was good and very accommodating! Only complaint from all four of us was the Ribeyes were smoked, heavy smoke! Personally think it takes from the flavors of a good steak. Wife and I had Chez-Burgers, they were ok... the home cut fries were dark-dark brown and dripping with grease, they did'n't offer Diet Dr. Pepper (so that wasn't a good start) and I've seen cleaner eating establishments, I've see worse too. That being said though, the service was good, the burgers were cooked to our specifications, and I believe the price was parr with the food. However, I don't think we will be going back. We had lunch in Mineral Wells, Tx. While there I looked for places to eat once we got to Amarillo. After reading the reviews, my wife absolutely refused to stop anywhere else between there and here. But my 10-ounce filet was the size of my entire hand, and my friend's 16-ounce ribeye took up half his plate. I've never had a better steak in my life. Strictly a food place atmosphere this night. Bottled beer only but cold! About 15 minutes from entrance to Palo Duro Canyon State Park. I had a Philly Cheesesteak and it was good but nothing special.
