Very best BBQ anywhere and a true gem in this small town. Limited BBQ and hours, but well worth planning any trip in the area to eat here. Will not regret it.

I was there for the debut of their food trailer in Clovis, New Mexico. I had a 3 meat plate that consisted of brisket, turkey and burnt ends with coleslaw and potato salad. It was amazing! The owner of Redstone Pizza (who let the owners park next to them) said they've won awards. I can see why. Each meat melted in my mouth. It was the first time for burnt ends for me. I see why people rave about them. I've experienced at least five bbq joints in the past 30 years in my hometown and all pale in comparison to The BBQ Shop. I believe I've experienced true Texas BBQ. Gourmet Texas BBQ. Even the sides were superb. Now I have the best in pizza (Redstone Pizza), Asian (Emily's Filipino) and BBQ here in my hometown. And they're all food trailers! Very cool...

The chopped beef sandwich was sensational with underlying seasoning that gave it more depth of flavor than most barbecue I've had. It was late in the afternoon so I wasn't sure if there would be any food trucks we liked next to…read morethe Clovis library, but I was certain that neither Lee nor I felt like cooking this evening. There were only three: one with Asian food with all its fresh bean sprouts and green onions and crispy fried rice, one with super crispy fried chicken, and the barbecue truck, Jetfire. The owner (I guessed) was out front, talking to another guy. I asked if they were open and if they had anything that a couple of old folks who couldn't chew "too good" could eat, maybe some brisket so fatty it would melt in your mouth. He kind of shook his head and then said, "I could chop some brisket up nice and soft and put it on a plate with two sides or a sandwich or just some meat by the pound?" Long story slightly shorter, he disappeared into the Jetfire truck and emerged a few minutes later with 2 chopped beef sandwiches, 2 sides of beans, 1 side of mac-n-cheese and a side of potato salad. We took it home and began eating some of the finest barbecue I've tasted in a very long time -- maybe sometime in the 30 years or so I lived in Austin, TX, and it wasn't just the chopped brisket -- each dish was a treat unto itself! The beef had bits of charred fat concentrated with the smoke and maybe worcestershire and horseradish? I don't know, but it was delectable! The bun was perfectly toasted on the grill in butter or maybe beef fat. The potato salad was the perfect combination, IMO, of vinegary, mustardy and mayonnaisey and the mac-n-cheese was the perfect texture of soft but not soggy with a lighter, a little sweeter sauce and chunks of Velveeta in it to give you an occasional burst of cheesy flavor. I think the folks running this truck have a secret ingredient that gives everything a depth and complexity you don't find just anywhere. This has become my go-to barbecue in the area and I recommend it to any BBQ lover. Plus the gentleman who rustled up this food for us was a damn nice guy! The plates were 10 bucks a piece-- well, worth the price, but one plate with one extra side would have been more than enough for the two of us who have fairly light appetites. (We will enjoy leftovers tomorrow!) Thank you, Jetfire!

Found the cafe part of the place stood and pondered the menu (pretty much same menu as posted in the pics) and decided what meats we each wanted on our 2 meat plate + 2 sides. Spicy sausage link with cheese, brisket, slaw and potato salad for him; ham and turkey meat for me with the beans (warned that they'd be talking later) and slaw. Each had a big slice of bread + butter and a sugar cookie. Drinks of lemonade and unsweetened tea were all you could drink and came as part of the meal. There are canned sodas and bottled Coca Cola for an extra price. I saw there was fresh coffee in the pot. All food was very delicious, fresh made, and served generous sized portions. We had so much leftovers we have a good start on tonight's dinner/supper. On the television was the Western/INSP channel with High Chaparral playing. Blast from the past. Great Wall art all over the place, and even outside on the "patio" area where there's cooking going on (spare ribs were smoking for tomorrow's customers). This looks to be a family run business with a friendly attitude. As the husband went to pay the owner-ess started to type in the credit card machine. My husband asked "Do you take cash" to which she replied "yes, we just do see it much." There ain't many a truer statement, everywhere we go it's typically the card. Husband tried to leave a tip and she wouldn't accept it. Just come on back again. I highly recommend this place as a stop over for a leisurely, friendly meal. As we left, the husband said "Nice ole folks ... Usually we have to pay for the cookie (home baked sugar cookie) and they gave it to us free as part of the meal."

Olton is a nice 45 minute drive from Lubbock so check their social media accounts to make sure they have food before you go. We arrived hungry and found a short line. They have plenty of parking in the lot and street available. The wait in line gave us the opportunity to view the menu and plan our order. We got brisket, sausage, pork sliders and 1 catfish fillet. They have inside and covered screened outdoor sitting. You place your order and pay and they bring you the tray of food. Let me tell you that all the food here is delicious. The fillet of catfish was served with hush puppies and tartar sauce, it is the BEST catfish I have ever had!! The brisket was moist with a great smoke ring. The sausage was nice and yummy. The pork sliders looked good and tasted delicious. Everything here was delicious and fresh even though it was around 7pm on Friday. The people that work here also are some of the best people you will ever meet. They represent Texas BBQ at the best. I highly recommend that you make a trip to Rejino Barbeque as the people and food are worth the drive.

As I always do I ordered the brisket burnt ends and the original sides of tater salad and coleslaw (as a honest comparison of the TX Top 50). 1lb of brisket that was the superstar of the tray as it should be. Really good flavor and an even smoke that never was offensive "mesquite bite, hickory bitterness" due to really seasoned oak wood presumably post oak. Sides were fine/traditional ACV style slaw to cut the rich brisket, maybe an egg yoke, dill tater salad that was right on the money. Over all a really good bbq representation of Texas smoked beef, not sure I'd rank 10th in the top 50 but glad to taste what others voted on anyway. I will say the condiments "raw jalapeños" and their layout was a really easy and appreciated change from other bbq joints.

The first time we went to Tyler's was in 2018 when they hit the Texas Monthly To 50 BBQ list. We were pleasantly surprised on this second visit. Tyler moved locations in 2019 to a much larger location with ample parking and good seating capacity. We were very comfortable and enjoyed the wonderful memorabilia on the walls. Bonus is the restrooms were very clean. The coolest part of the trip was meeting up with Tyler Frazer again. In 2018, my wife and I finished visting all 50 TM BBQ joints at Tyler's. When Tyler learned that he was so gracious to invite me for a pit tour. He commemorated that trip with a TM BBQ pin that featured several other pit masters from that issue that I proudly still have. This trip, we got there around 9:00am as we drove in from a BBQ run in Lubbock and were worried that we may be fighting the Route 66 100 year anniversary crowd that had taken over Amarillo. Luckily, we beat the crowd. Though Tyler's doesn't open until 11am, Tyler opened the gate for me to rest at the picnic area and we talked for 5+ minutes even though he had a lot of prep work to do before opening. Later on, he came to our table and talked with us and told stories for another 15 minutes. That alone made the whole experience unforgettable. Bottom line, Tyler Frazer is the GOAT, a Texas BBQ rockstar in my book. He is the epitome of Texas BBQ hospitality and a pioneering voice of celebrating Texas BBQ and small businesses. We always look forward to his reels on Instagram as he welcomes the day with a weather report thoughts for the day from Amarillo. My hats off to you Tyler! Keep up the great work. Looking forward to seeing next time.
