Driving around Texas eating great BBQ and Tyler's Bbq in Amarillo TX is always on my list. Tyler's has the charm that is true Texas BBQ. They welcome people here as if everyone is family. They have a large parking lot. They have indoor and outside sitting areas. So the process here is you go through the line and place your order they start with the proteins first then the sides with bread pickles and onions last. They cut and weigh the meats in front of you so you see what you are getting on your tray. You pay at the end and you get your tray of food after a short wait. Saturday is $16.00 a lb Beef Ribs. No hold on the ribs so get there early as the beef ribs are delicious and worth getting in line early for. We got brisket which was a 10/10. We got the beef ribs some to eat there and 1 to bring home to Houston 10/10. We also got the sausage 11/10 it was spicy as we got jalapeño cheddar and the black peppercorn. We also got PORK BELLY WITH BERRY CHIPOTLE which was 10/10. Everything here was delicious and so memorable. They make their own pickles so make sure you get some of the delicious homemade pickles! Tyler's Ribs are worth the drive! We left nothing on the bone they were so good. Rich smoke, great crust, unctuous flavor, moist and tender. Three ribs ordered and devoured. We also had the moist brisket which was outstanding. Pork belly was a smash hit with the distinctive smoke flavor and just right sweetness. The sleeper surprise was the house-made black peppercorn and jalapeno cheese sausage. The staff and service is so friendly and patient with our order. The first time we went to Tyler's was in 2018 when they hit the Texas Monthly To 50 BBQ list. We were pleasantly surprised on this second visit. Tyler moved locations in 2019 to a much larger location with ample parking and good seating capacity. We were very comfortable and enjoyed the wonderful memorabilia on the walls. Bonus is the restrooms were very clean. The coolest part of the trip was meeting up with Tyler Frazer again. In 2018, my wife and I finished visting all 50 TM BBQ joints at Tyler's. When Tyler learned that he was so gracious to invite me for a pit tour. He commemorated that trip with a TM BBQ pin that featured several other pit masters from that issue that I proudly still have. This trip, we got there around 9:00am as we drove in from a BBQ run in Lubbock and were worried that we may be fighting the Route 66 100 year anniversary crowd that had taken over Amarillo. Luckily, we beat the crowd. Though Tyler's doesn't open until 11am, Tyler opened the gate for me to rest at the picnic area and we talked for 5+ minutes even though he had a lot of prep work to do before opening. Later on, he came to our table and talked with us and told stories for another 15 minutes. That alone made the whole experience unforgettable. Bottom line, Tyler Frazer is the GOAT, a Texas BBQ rockstar in my book. He is the epitome of Texas BBQ hospitality and a pioneering voice of celebrating Texas BBQ and small businesses. Our first meal in Texas. Doc our road trip driver found Tyler's bbq on Yelp right after we crossed the Texas State line and called our order in. Hubs said as soon as we got back into the car he would rate it a 5 star and that it was the best meal so far. Doc added the people are so nice. I ordered a sliced brisket sandwich and cole slaw for each of us. What a nice surprise, Doc concocted a sweet tea and iced tea for me. Hubs had his usual, Diet Coke as drinks were included. Doc had 1/4 lb side of brisket with hot sauce. She's so health conscious. Gotta admit their regular bbq sauce was so good. Loved the perfect sweetness of it. Put it on every slice of my sandwich. There are 2 restrooms, one person at a time. The interior is spacious, cool decor and had a station to wrap up your left overs to go. Extremely happy Doc found this place- yum!!! What good fortune. I haven't been this way in months, but this trip I got to eat a Tyler's BBQ twice in less than two weeks! Both times I had the ribs and they were falling off the bone delicious!! As always the staff is so pleasant and helpful. Today they were really busy with long lines but they were cheerful. Despite the crowds the restaurant was quiet and the bathrooms very clean. The only downside was I missed seeing Tyler both times. But the staff said they would pass along my "Hi" to him. read more

My in-laws live in Amarillo, so my family and I are usually there at least a couple of times per year. I've been to Goldee's, Interstellar, Panther City, Cattleack, Louie Mueller, Dayne's, Hutchin's, Drew's (newer place in Maypearl - worth checking out!), Evie Mae's, Hurtado, and probably others I can't think of at the moment. I read the Texas Monthly review on Tyler's and decided to check it out. As soon as we approached the building, we were hit with the aroma of Texas bbq. That's always a good sign! The lady who took our order was very friendly and engaging. The atmosphere was good. The building was not overly fancy, but it was very apropriate for a bbq joint. My son and I split the 3 meat plate. We got the brisket, pork belly, and jalapeño cheese sausage. For the sides, we got the jalapeño cream corn and the pinto beans. The brisket had a good flavor. Fairly simple flavor profile, but it was nice. It wasn't as juicy as places like Goldee's or Cattleack, presumably because Tyler's probably doesn't use tallow for the long heated rest. I prefer the use of tallow, but I was still happy with it. It was a good balance of seasoning, smoke, and beef flavor. The pork belly had a nice sweet flavor to complement the smoke. We were also impressed with the sausage. It was rich and flavorful with a little kick. I didn't try the pork ribs, but my nephew was raving about how good they were. The corn was really good. A little more spicy than I expected, but not painfully so. We were the least impressed with the beans, but they were still good. If we had a larger group, I would've loved to try the beef ribs. My overall impression is one of being pleasantly surprised. For some reason, there's just not much of a bbq market in Amarillo. I'm glad we were able to check out Tyler's. I would say it's not as good as my top favorites, but it's better than others. Definitely good enough for us to come back again. read more

Traveling with coworkers and saw this pop up when looking for a lunch spot. This place has a real smokehouse ambiance to it. From placing our order to having it in-front of us took less than 5 minutes, pretty fast service. The highlight of the meal for me was the jalapeño creamed corn, nice heat and very creamy. The ribs were pretty solid, great seasoning and a nice bark. The sliced brisket had good flavor but was honestly a bit dry for us, will probably go with the chopped next time. If you're in Amarillo and you don't go to Tyler's BBQ, you're an idiot. This was THE best BBQ we've had in a long time. I ordered the 2-meat plate and got a FULL half chicken plus 5 huge slices of brisket, along with big sides of terrific slightly sweet slaw and green beans with bacon and just a hint of spice. Oh -- and Texas toast too. All of that for under $25! Great BBQ, massive portions, and an incredible value. We're driving cross-country and are so glad our stay at Spark Hotel led us to this gem. Sadly, Tyler's didn't live up to the hype for us. We did a little research to find the best bbq restaurant in Amarillo, and it seemed Tyler's was the favorite. Maybe we caught them on an off day, but the meal really missed the mark. The brisket was quite dry, the pulled pork lacked flavor, and the beans were not at all what you would expect from a bbq place. There were a couple of good things too. The pork ribs and smoked turkey were good, and the jalapeño corn was pretty good. Overall, the meal wasn't worth the long wait in line. The restaurant was spacious, so it's a good place for a group or family. We are from out of town, so I doubt we will be back. The ribs, chopped and sliced brisket was some of the best I have ever had. Every bite was so flavorful, tender and juicy melt in the mouth. Coleslaw excellent. Potato salad with a little heat and the potatoes were small pieces which made it even better and I grew up in a big German family and some of the best I have ever had. We had the banana pudding and was again amazing. Great spot has indoor and a patio that is dog friendly with misters. If you are ever passing though or staying in Amarillo this is a must. read more

We arrived at 6:15pm on a Wednesday to a sign that said "sold out". We decided to go in and check it out anyway and found out that were out of ribs and beef but still had turkey, pulled pork, and several kinds of sausage. We went ahead and ordered, but also noticed that they were already beginning to turn chairs over onto tables as if they were near closing. We were to meet my brother and his wife who arrived about 5 minutes after we did and they were told that they were all out of everything. There was only one couple who had gotten their food after we did, so there was no way they were out of food. The food was ok, but not outstanding. It was also very hot inside. When visiting Amarillo, I was told by two of my colleagues, that if I wanted good BBQ, I should visit Tyler's, or Spicy Mikes. Since we were in a bit of a hurry, we stopped at Tyler's on the way to the airport - luggage in tow. The team was amazing, reducing a line of patient patrons in only minutes. Being exactly lunchtime, there was a line to the door. I could see people's orders: Pork Belly burnt ends... sausages, brisket. It all looked very nice. We went with brisket sandwiches as a steady baseline, but the guy in front of us! Oh my gee... sausages chopped into smoked turkey, packed into a baked potato. Really glad we stopped in, it's an Amarillo institution that you shouldn't miss. The place is clean, quick, the pickles are excellent, all meats smoked to perfection. The sauces are memorable. I would want to rate this place between 3-4 stars but I really was too disappointed to give it four stars. Nothing was inedible but nothing was really great. As some others have noted, the brisket was dry and really needed the sauce to give it some moisture (not a good thing for Texas BBQ). Learning how to hold your brisket is half the battle for producing BBQ on a commercial scale and they clearly don't have that process down here. The ribs were OK but weirdly salty and also a little on the dry side. The pulled pork was completely bland and mushy without any sign of bark. The sausage (cheddar-jalapeño) was probably the best thing on the place. The sides were equally unremarkable. Oh, and the "Texas toast" was completely untoasted: just double thickness white bread (not that I care that much--but worth noting as it's all in the details). If this place were in Albuquerque, I might eat here on occasion. As a place in Texas, thus just isn't that great. And as I always say about BBQ, it's basically an attack on your body, so if you are going to subject yourself to something this unhealthy, it better be really great. Sadly, this isn't. Again, Yelp reviews must be taken with a grain of salt (yes, this one as well--though I have made and eaten an awful lot of BBQ in my life, so I will claim to know what I'm talking about). read more

The food was really, really good, we especially enjoyed the brisket. The pulled pork was some of the best I've had in a long time. They clearly know what they're doing! As for sides, the cole slaw was recommended and my wife thoroughly enjoyed it. The other highlight from the sides was the creamed corn...again, really good! I had such an incredible experience at Tyler's Barbecue.. I first stopped in around 3:30 on a Tuesday and asked about gluten-free options. The staff member I spoke with was extremely knowledgeable and transparent--she explained that all of their meats are technically gluten-free, but due to sandwich prep and shared stations, there can be cross-contamination. What really stood out was that she didn't just stop there--she offered a solution. She let me know I could pre-order meats and they would set them aside before service to ensure they stayed gluten-free. I placed a pickup order for the same time the following day. When I arrived, I realized I was early and assumed my order would already be sliced and ready--but instead, they had thoughtfully set aside a bulk portion to slice fresh for me. Even with a line of about 10-12 customers, a staff member took the time to explain they would prepare my order after finishing with others so they could use a clean prep station. That level of care and attention to detail meant a lot. And it didn't stop there. When I received my order, another team member let me know that since it was the end of the rack, he included an extra rib for me. When I got home, I realized they had actually given me more meat than I ordered. This team went above and beyond in every way--thoughtful, accommodating, generous, and genuinely kind. I never made any special request, yet they handled a simply inquiry (which I am Celiac)...with care and enthusiasm. I'm incredibly grateful and will absolutely be back. read more

The plate also came with 2 sides of slaw and potato salad and everything on this plate was delicious!!!!!!! We also ordered a brisket sandwich and it was bomb!!!! Just walking in, was transcendent! The wonderful smell of the Barbecue being sliced and diced, OMG! Had the brisket and ribs with potato salad and their stewed beans.
