    Four piece

3.5 stars Stopped into Mitch's Texas Style Barbecue in Amarillo, which is tucked inside a Valero gas station but don't let that fool you. I was just looking for a quick bite before hitting the road again, and the Yelp reviews didn't steer me wrong. I ordered the four-piece combo: two ribs, two chicken tenders, waffle fries, and a drink. Everything was served hot and fresh. The barbecue sauce was solid, nice flavor without being overpowering. The ribs were decent, and the chicken tenders were cooked perfectly, though the breading was way too spicy for me (I ended up peeling it off and still enjoyed the chicken inside). Waffle fries were crispy and satisfying, and the price felt fair for the portion. Nothing fancy--again, gas station--but definitely better than expected. Would I go out of my way for it? Probably not. But for a quick, hot meal on the road? It hit the spot.

It's inside of a gas station, of which we were surprised!! They were out of pulled pork sad news Got the brisket it was a bit dry for my taste It came with no home potato chips, they were good, the macaroni was not worth my calories.

Staying at the RV park next door & this was an easy walk over. This is not a typical Truck stop/gas station restaurant. It is a Restaurant with a truck stop attached . You can see from the pics the amount of food was definitely worth the prices. Getting to watch the staff member make your plate was fun. He made sure your product was weighed to ensure you didn't get short changed on amounts. I saw someone complaining about dry meat, well we didn't see/experience that. Do they not know what BBQ sauce is? Wife's turkey was tender, juicy, & had enough to add to her salad today. Her macaroni & cheese with green peppers was delicious. Little too warm for her, so I was the lucky one. My pulled pork sandwich was great & had enough to bring home for a next day sandwich. I enjoyed the special chips. Plenty of seating for families. THEY HAD TEXAS SWEET TEA. Parking lot will accommodate any size motorhome of pull RV. The staff were friendly, quick, keeping seating area clean, great customer service. Look at the staff photo, that is a great team.. I was to give a shout out to Domonic, because he was quick with a smile & kind word. We will be back. There is a large dog park, kid's playground, & covered picnic tables right outside.

Unsuspecting little bbq place inside a truck stop. You walk in you can smell the bbq. You order at a counter and walk down the line. They have a condiment bar with bbq sauce, pickles and peppers. We were there less than hour before they closed so some of their options were limited. We ordered brisket nachos add queso cheese. The. Hops are kettle cooked chips and I know you don't think nachos when you hear kettle cooked chips but hear me out. They were soft yet still crunchy enough to hold up to the amount of topping they put on the nachos. Toppings we chose Beans Queso Shredded cheese Jalapenos Spicy bbq sauce Additional toppings they have that we didn't get were Sour cream Onions I think I may be missing a topping but can't remember for sure. They load the toppings on and it was definitely enough for 2 of us to share. The brisket wasn't dry and had a decent smoke taste. I also got the only sausage they have had left for the day which was polish. The skin on it was a bit tough and it was greasy so I don't think I will be ordering that again. Hubby tried the banana pudding and said it's the best he's ever had. They cut up the banana fresh and crumble the wafers on fresh as well so no soggy gross toppings. Pudding was light and fluffy He also got a lemon bar but hasn't tried it yet Overall decent bbq with truck parking and EV chargers.

    Ribs, hot sausages and brisket

Located at the Toot n Totum truck stop just outside the Amarillo airport. I had the hot sausages (star of the show) ribs and brisket. The brisket was a little dry. However the sausages and ribs were tasty, moist and served hot. For the sides I had cole slaw and green chili Mac n cheese. I'd pass on the beans as they looked a little long in the tooth.

I've had gas station Q that was bomb. This wasn't one of them. Service was friendly but the brisket was dry. The beans & slaw were average. The green chile & cheddar sausage link & green chili mac 'n cheese were both very good. Kinda' disappointing for the sole TX BBQ we tried on this road trip.

Roasted Turkey, chips, potato salad and coleslaw.

We were pleasantly surprised to find Mitch's bbq at the EV charging station in Amarillo, TX. Fast, clean, great menu, and delicious meat! My husband and I had the #1 meal - meat, chips, plus 2 sides. We both ordered turkey. Very moist and not salty! Great tasting bbq sauces. $30 for two people. Wish they had this restaurant where we live! All the sides looked great. My husband had potato salad and coleslaw. I had green beans and Coleslaw.

They were supposed to be Hawaiian sliders on Hawaiian bread, but just plain bread nothing Hawaiian at all about them.

The mac & cheese was disgusting. My food was served cold they were out of almost everything. The meat was very dry. Not worth the stop at all. The steam tray items look like they've been there for a month.

Stockpile: chopped brisket & beans on chips.

Well, so much for my diet. The Stockpile is just too much BBQ brisket with fixings to skip at $12. Plus, I have to eat something while charging my Tesla here. They make it to specifications, hot or regular sauce, jalapeños or not, and cheese, of course. Plenty of other meat trays and sandwiches too. The tables are in the middle of the convenience store, so don't be shy. Beats the Wendy's here by a mile.

Very cool concept to have a full service BBQ place inside a convenience store (with Tesla Super Chargers). My man ordered the sliced brisket plate and I ordered the 2 meat plate with two different types of sausage. Our sides were fried okra, coleslaw and mac and cheese. Lastly, I though an order of the banana pudding would be great. We choose poorly with everything. Boo. It's not often that we walk away from a meal unhappy, but ya know. It happens occasionally. Mitch's has some room for improvement and with some tweaks, can be much, much better. Here's a few we noticed: less cheese in the sausage (I know, who would have ever thought less cheese is better!). The okra was soggy, so maybe working out the timing so that the crispy coating isn't compromised. The brisket was good, but the sauce was too vinegary for me and just meh for my man. The banana pudding was maybe the most disappointing. I'm not sure that the pudding actually was, but it was unlike anything I've ever had - way too dense with only a hint of banana. The staff cut 1/4 of a banana into small pieces and added a few slices to the bottom and top sections of the container we ordered. He took a few 'nilla wafers and crumbled them up on top of the dense mass. It was odd. No beuno. We each took a few bites and left the rest. We could have chosen the Wendy's that was next door, in the same open space. As we were leaving, we both shared that Wendy's would have been a better choice. Sometimes, it's knowing what you are getting that matters most.

They welcome people here as if everyone is family. They have a large parking lot. They have indoor and outside sitting areas. So the process here is you go through the line and place your order they start with the proteins first then the sides with bread pickles and onions last. They cut and weigh the meats in front of you so you see what you are getting on your tray. You pay at the end and you get your tray of food after a short wait. Saturday is $16.00 a lb Beef Ribs. No hold on the ribs so get there early as the beef ribs are delicious and worth getting in line early for. We got brisket which was a 10/10. We got the beef ribs some to eat there and 1 to bring home to Houston 10/10. We also got the sausage 11/10 it was spicy as we got jalapeño cheddar and the black peppercorn. We also got PORK BELLY WITH BERRY CHIPOTLE which was 10/10. Everything here was delicious and so memorable. They make their own pickles so make sure you get some of the delicious homemade pickles! We tried the potato salad, coleslaw, jalapeño cream corn and the pinto beans. All the sides were good but the cream corn was the best. I highly recommend you make a trip to Tyler's BBQ.

We also had the moist brisket which was outstanding. Pork belly was a smash hit with the distinctive smoke flavor and just right sweetness. The sleeper surprise was the house-made black peppercorn and jalapeno cheese sausage. The staff and service is so friendly and patient with our order. The first time we went to Tyler's was in 2018 when they hit the Texas Monthly To 50 BBQ list. We were pleasantly surprised on this second visit. Tyler moved locations in 2019 to a much larger location with ample parking and good seating capacity. We were very comfortable and enjoyed the wonderful memorabilia on the walls. Bonus is the restrooms were very clean. The coolest part of the trip was meeting up with Tyler Frazer again. In 2018, my wife and I finished visting all 50 TM BBQ joints at Tyler's. When Tyler learned that he was so gracious to invite me for a pit tour. He commemorated that trip with a TM BBQ pin that featured several other pit masters from that issue that I proudly still have. This trip, we got there around 9:00am as we drove in from a BBQ run in Lubbock and were worried that we may be fighting the Route 66 100 year anniversary crowd that had taken over Amarillo. Luckily, we beat the crowd. Though Tyler's doesn't open until 11am, Tyler opened the gate for me to rest at the picnic area and we talked for 5+ minutes even though he had a lot of prep work to do before opening. Later on, he came to our table and talked with us and told stories for another 15 minutes. That alone made the whole experience unforgettable. Bottom line, Tyler Frazer is the GOAT, a Texas BBQ rockstar in my book. He is the epitome of Texas BBQ hospitality and a pioneering voice of celebrating Texas BBQ and small businesses. We always look forward to his reels on Instagram as he welcomes the day with a weather report thoughts for the day from Amarillo. My hats off to you Tyler! Keep up the great work. Looking forward to seeing next time.

You order food at the register and then sit down, so when you order a dessert, they can put a little note to serve it to you at the end. Speaking of dessert, that pecan cobbler ala mode smacks! The perfect ending to a delicious meal. The meat is so tender and falls off the bone. You don't need a knife to cut anything. A plastic knife will do the job easily. They say the brisket is the star of the show and I can attest to that. However, the turkey is the runner up. I don't know what they do to that Turkey, but my husband and I might have to grab more to take home with us tomorrow. They were so nice too because we ordered a 1/2 rack of ribs and they ran out, so we got the last of the ribs. The also doubled all our meats! It didn't feel like the performers were very comfortable either. Husband ordered a steak medium rare, but it came out WELL DONE. Lady in the party next to us had to send her steak back to the kitchen not once, but TWICE. We are not high maintenance people. This is just a touristy place where the staff have to churn a high volume of customers each day. So quality is probably going to fall to the wayside. Also, I got the beef tips and mashed potatoes which comes with 2 sides. I got the hatch chile creamed corn, and the steak tomato and onion. The creamed corn was BLAND and the steak tomato with onion was just a raw tomato with a dash of salt and pepper and 3 rings of RAW PURPLE ONION. I thought the tomato would be blistered and the onion grilled???!! And the kicker was that the waitress gave us the wrong receipt for our order. (Which yes, when you're serving so many different tables, chances are you're going to have mix ups). They have some fun games in the outdoor seating area like Cornhole and connect 4, but it smelt like sewage outside. Redeeming factor is that the bread rolls are warm, tasty, and complimentary.
