Great old school bbq spot. This was my second bbq stop during my visit to Amarillo and food did not disappoint my taste buds. The friendly bartender steered me in the right direction and I ended up with Dyer's Special. My plate came loaded with brisket, ribs, coleslaw and potato salad with side plate of toast and bowl of beans. The restaurant is split into a large dinning room and a good size bar with plenty of dining tables. As a side note the one of the ladies working there has a great sense of humor and helped my wife played a practical joke on me. Well done! You get 5 additional stars for that. read more

Delicious! Stopped in today for lunch. The place was quiet. Food came out fast, and the service was good. Portions were HUGE for the price. We had ribs, catfish, chicken tenders, and fried pickles. The pickles were super thin and crispy. Catfish was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Tartar sauce was more flavorful than most- an extra tang of garlic or onion. I had a wonderful visit at this restaurant. I had been here once before a couple of years ago but evidently underappreciated it. It was okay but not the cheapest in town. And I'm on a budget, both the travel budget and the senior budget. But I was in the area and decided to give it another try because it was close and I hadn't been here for a while. In spite of all the social distancing due to the coronavirus I had a wonderful experience! There was a wait to get in because they could only use about 50% of their tables but once I was seated the server took care of me right away. I decided to order a beer to go with my meal and they had one that was an expensive , $2 or $3, I can't remember. I looked over the menu and chose the light plate ribs for $10.99. No offense to any of the other BBQ places but I think these might have been the best ribs that I've had since I've been in town. Of course I think I've said that before when I've gotten good ones. These really were delicious. They give you a lot of food considering it's the light plate. I was able to order two sides plus it came with bread. Everything was delicious and it was enough that I had leftovers to enjoy the next day also. The only reason for four stars rather than five is there was one time during the evening when no one came by for a very long time. I'm one of those people that doesn't usually need anything but I was told I would receive some sauce but it never did come. I mentioned it to my server at the end and she made sure to include some with my leftovers which was great. The person that delivered my food and promised the sauce was not the same person who took my order. I still tipped well and was happy with my experience. I would also like to give a shout out to the man going around clearing the tables and cleaning them. He was right on those tables the instant people got up and left, something I have not seen a lot of recently. And he didn't just give the table a quick swipe, he thoroughly wiped it down along with the chairs as well. This was some of the most thorough cleaning in a restaurant I've seen since I started going to restaurants again during the pandemic. I was highly impressed. I may have not so high standards, but considering this is a small town and not a whole lot of choices, Dyer's worked. Ordered the variety choice for starters as it's a sample of what you can eat for your regular entree. Their onion rings were amazing and their slaw was good in the sense it wasn't overly creamy, but just right. The ribs and bbq pork were better than I imagined, not dry but somewhat juicy. This was absolutely ridiculous! 2hrs away from home wasn't busy had at least 5 tables empty when we was seated! We waited for over 10min to even be talked to. Our little waitress came and apologized and said she didn't even know she had a table! Then we literally had a burger and a half/ small bbq plate. We waited for over 45min for our food. It came it was cold the burger was supposed to be well done they cut the edge and yes it was done lol but all through out it was pink it had bleed out on the bottom bun! To be deep in cowboy Texas on a Friday night at dinner at a BBQ joint jammed with pickup trucks and locals is 98% guaranteed to be great. Strangely not here. We stopped at Dyers on our way from CA to TN per a friend's recommendation since it's close to the hotel we stayed at in Amarillo. The bbq brisket was sooooo yummy and it came with ALL the trimmings, not a choice of one or two and the price is so reasonable! So, on our way back we made sure to stop there again and this time we ordered to go- brisket and chopped beef and they were just as delicious!
