This is the most assuming place I have been to in Columbus, but, wow, it did not disappoint! The interior is festive and fun enough to put anyone in a good mood. And, your mood will only get better with the cook-to-order food that is served hot and delicious by the friendly, and very busy, server who talks with everyone in the room. Be aware - CASH only! Highly recommend!

I wanted to update my review with a few more pictures. The food was served quickly and it was once again tasty. The prices were great. There are several things on the menu that I want to try on my next visit. Love the Christmas decorations! Our waitress was attentive to our needs. I will be back!

Best place in town for a delicious inexpensive breakfast or sandwich! Once you enter, it's Christmas time again! All year long! Friendly employees and wonderful atmosphere! I had the two eggs, biscuits and gravy and hash browns! So good!

Decided to go off the beaten path this morning. Went to Lois Mann's on High Street. They have been at this location for 11 years and 40+ years at their previous location. My waitress was Julie, very good waitress that checked on me numerous times. Ordered a #5- 2 Eggs, hash browns and biscuit and gravy. The eggs were cooked to a perfect medium, the hash browns were made with skin on potatoes that had a phenomenal deep potato flavor. Could have just ordered a plate of them. On to the star of the show, you get this huge biscuit, perfect texture, split it open and pour a huge bowl of gravy on it. Gravy was made with a nice sausage. Yummmy!!! All this for $6.95. Cheap and delicious food is a major plus. On to what everyone talks about, the decor. Place is one big Christmas Decoration. And quite the collection of guitars all over the place. I will definitely have to come back for the lunch menu sometime. Everyone needs to check this place out, especially if you have kids.

Lois Mann's Restaurant is known as "The Christmas Cafe" because it stays decorated year-round.

First impression: This restaurant is very clean and tidy. We were agog looking at all the elaborate Christmas decorations. It's known as "The Christmas Cafe." The tables are decorated with lovely vinyl coverings that look like brocade embroidered fabric. Fooled me! Plus it has all types of string instruments on the wall. To the food review: We ordered homemade lasagna with rich simmered tomato sauce and the cabbage rolls with coleslaw side. Both meals came with toasted and buttered long loaf slices. We both had a house salad (one came with the cabbage rolls as a side). Our waitress (Jillian) was excellent and friendly. Jillian said to come back on Wednesdays to hear the bluegrass band from 1-3pm or so (no extra charge). Lois Mann filled us in on the history of her restaurant back to when it was at Parsons Avenue & Markison for 24 years. The restaurant has been at the current location 13 years, she said. We hear Lois does a lot for the southside community. Lois said "bring the kids." They get a gift every time they come in. Generous lady. We will go back. Note: This is a cash only restaurant (ATM machine conveniently inside). Would love to try the sausage gravy and biscuits that everybody raves about. Breakfast is served all day!

Cabbage rolls Yum! Served with 2 side dishes. Homemade mash potatoes and green beans

Additionally, having had a Goodman's Deli mile high corned beef sandwich when I lived in Cleveland, I had even higher expectations. Their most popular sandwich is the Reuben so I went with that. Katzingers did not meet them. When I arrived to pick up my sandwich I was shocked the line wasn't out the door to place orders before they closed and the dining room had maybe 6 people in it. There were about 6 to go bags on the shelf along with mine. When I mentioned to the cashier that I was surprised it wasn't busier, she said it'll be busier tomorrow. I said the day after St Pat's? No answer. Another not good sign in my mind. When I got home, the wrapped sandwich was bigger than my hand but not very tall. The paper had areas of grease which is a good sign for this sandwich. The corned beef itself was tender but there wasn't as much of it, maybe an inch high and 1/3 of the bread had no corned beef. I also could not taste the thousand island dressing. The rye bread was toasted but pretty soggy. The crust was mostly crunchy. The bread slices were paired upside down putting a narrower side a larger side against each other. There is not enough sauerkraut and it is not very sour. I was given the choice of a dill or garlic pickle but I cannot tell you how it was because they didn't put it in the bag. I expected this sandwich to have so much meat in it, I could eat for multiple days for $18. Again, disappointed. Maybe I should've gotten the deli sized version but paying that much for a sandwich... The inside of the deli is fun and it's obvious it's been around a long time and has been well loved. I wanted to like Katzinger's but since the price and the quality don't match, I cannot.

It may not look like much, but it packs a whole lot of "great" inside of it! PROS: -Service is fantastic. The servers, despite being less than an hour from close, were super friendly, and they made me feel like I was part of everything. No clique-y vibes or disgruntled employees. Lots of joking and laughing from the staff when they weren't serving. -Food was delivered freakishly fast. We had barely got our beer when we had apps, and we had only managed to get the chili cooled enough for a few bites before entrees came out. The kitchen was really on top of things. -Really large selection of salad options. Their ranch was really delicious, but most importantly, all the salads felt like relatively "healthy" salads unlike many places that try to make them restaurant "quality" by stuffing them with cheese and other treat-y options. This could definitely be a place you could take someone who had to watch what they were eating for various reasons. -Prices were very, very reasonable, and we came away with a good meal without spending too much. -It was raining when we left, and staff was offering to walk people to their cars with their restaurant umbrella. Seriously, it was amazing. CONS: -No dedicated parking lot. There were decent available spots on a Thursday night at dinner, though. It just might be a few blocks walk. -As a chill night, it was okay, but I could feel this place feeling a bit crowded with tables too close together on really busy nights.

They came to take our drink order and by the time they returned we were ready to order. We chatted for a bit and our food came out in what seemed to be a good time. I ordered the Patty Melt with onion straws. My husband got the Thurman Burger. We were surprised by its size when they came carrying it out to our table. Believe it or not he ate every single bite. Said it was delicious. Mine was equally as delicious. Maybe not quite as big but that was fine by me. I actually quite enjoyed that they served the 1000 island on the side. It made it way easier to eat. The cheese was nice and gooey. Just perfect. The onion straws were good too. I shared those with my husband. They were actually just as good on their own as they were dipped in any kind of sauce. That's big coming from me bc I love dipping! We got a box for our leftovers and headed out happy with a great first time experience here.
