This place is great, and, after eating here for the first time in years, i was so happy they have added tofu to their list of protein options! But after trying it two times (once as an addition to a salad and once as a scramble instead of egg) I'm pretty disappointed with the execution. Tofu is not just a substitute for protein/eggs/etc. It needs seasoning and it needs to be prepared properly. Both times my tofu was soggy and flavorless. I thought when I got it the second time in the scramble it would have seasoning, but it was just tofu as a replacement for egg. I hope they work on their recipes and make the tofu a satisfying protein option for vegans and vegetarians instead of the only option. read more

The Lodge kitchen had lovely atmosphere and the service was perfect. The servers are very attentive. The food on the other hand is was somewhat disappointing. We went for dinner and started with the mussels and clams. They were cooked perfect and the best thing we had. The steak was cooked to perfection and the fries were great. The two items that were disappointing was the salmon and gnocchi. The salmon portion was very small and the accompanying vegetables sad. The leek was tough and flavorless. The gnocchi was presented in a very unattractive way and it didn't taste much better. The little brown tubes were tender. They need to lighten the color and use a fork to create a shape. I don't yelp very often, but Larry is worth it. While my boyfriend and I stayed at Sunriver Resort this past weekend to celebrate his birthday we showed up to breakfast a little rushed b/c he was behind to his birthday golf game with his buddies. Having worked in the food and beverage industry myself for 20 years I know that "we're in a rush" isn't on the top of a server's list of favorite things to hear, particularly during Sunday Brunch rush. My "servers guilt" would have never let those words leave my mouth. But my boyfriend doesn't quiet know all the faux paux's, fortunately for him. I was pleased when Larry met his request with fast paced, professional, service with a smile, instead of the softened look of "yeah... you and everyone else in here is in a rush." Not only was the service great for brunch but when I stopped by later for a solo Bloody Mary Larry continued to give that same stellar service throughout the day. I used to work at a place really similar to this, I'm pretty certain Larry was the guy running circles around my section, and making it look easy while he was doing it. The food was great. I wasn't too impressed with the hollandaise I had the morning before, but I'm kind of a hollandaise snob after working breakfast at top spots so many years, so maybe I'm being too critical. The sautéed greens were delicious. We both really liked the subtle sweetness of the donut holes. You should order from the bloody mary bar, although until Larry waited on me I didn't get qued in the first time around there were so many topping options, so ask your server about the bacon, asparagus, & etc. Thanks Larry! Pretty disastrous. I've never read a more nonsensical menu in my life. I hate when restaurants try to over complicate their menus to try to make it easier to gouge you. I'm glad I stayed away from the curry because I have a feeling it would have been significantly worse than my $18 ($21 actually because I added sautéed mushrooms) burger. Carson's, your pickles are gross. They are thin and textureless and taste like someone soaked them in vinegar and sugar water. Your sauce for the Brussels sprout appetizer was icky too. How can you reasonably charge $25 for beef stroganoff and $23 for fish and chips when your employees have their shirts partially untucked and rhinestones on their butts? My boyfriend spit out the chutney that is supposed to be paired with the duck entree. He also had an entire pile of garlic off to the side of his dish. That's pretty unappealing. I'm sorry, but for the prices being charged and the stuffy atmosphere, I expected mind-blowing food. Pretty upsetting when I know our bill was in the $200 range and the best thing about my meal was my glass of wine. To the manager that likes to respond: don't bother. I know you won't actually relay anything to your "team" and you'll keep serving the same expensive, confused muck. Keep your comments. We won't be back. read more

Went there for orders to go on 8/25/20. This was the cesear salad we got, barely any dressing on salad- it was $11. Got two cheeseburgers and one was half soggy and off the bun. Ordered a beer to go they didn't have the one I asked for and didn't give me the option of choosing to get a different one or not get one they just assumed and gave me a different kind and let me know when I picked the order up. Not sure why this restaurant is rated as high as it is. It is totally overpriced for the quality of the food. I had the trout which was coated in cornmeal but absolutely no seasoning. The salad under the trout had bacon which was more like pork belly but totally a bunch of undercooked fat. The fish and chips had way too much breading and the coleslaw was just a dish of cabbage with no dressing. I asked for dressing and they brought a vinegarette , not appealing. We were staying at the resort so breakfast at Carson's was very convenient! Just a quick walk over. It's winter so there is snow on the ground and lights in the trees, really beautiful setting with the lodge! We were seated promptly and our server was very attentive, she answered any questions and refilled coffee/water without it ever running empty (thank you!). The prices are on the higher end but since this is a resort, it is to be expected. The restaurant is beautifully styled with huge windows overlooking the snowy landscape. We ordered the cinnamon doughnut holes (very good, definitely recommend), the biscuits and gravy (there are two size options, we did the smaller one), and an omelette. Everything tasted great and we had no complaints about our food. It also arrived fairly quickly after ordering which is a plus! I should also note we arrived at 8 am and by 8:45 the place was almost full so there could be a wait depending on what time you arrive. Incredibly delicious and enjoyable breakfast experience. My partner and I are visiting from California and came to Carson's for breakfast to start our day. Every employee we encountered was kind and greeted us with a smile. The server, Larry, had a warm and welcoming personality. The menu looked fantastic! I was torn between the breakfast burrito, eggs Benedict, and egg sand which. All had creative names based on the landmarks and nature around us - great attention to detail! I opted to order the Egg Sandwich and started off with cinnamon sugar doughnut bites. Everything was delicious! My only complaint, because I'm a spoiled Californian is no avocado Larry offered guacamole which was a nice recommendation. Very surprised at the negative reviews. We were hesitant to go but we were staying at the resort and had a free meal there in our package. First of all, no one mentioned that they serve popovers at the beginning of the meal. It's been years since I had one and it was delicious. We had the bucatini pasta which was cooked very well and the ribeye rare. That too was cooked perfectly. Add a side of Brussels sprouts with bacon and call it a meal. Plus our drinks were served quickly The prices are high but nothing unusual for our expectations. The space is nice, you're not sitting on top of anyone and you can have a nice conversation. A great view and the service was very attentive and didn't seem rushed to get us out of there despite the holiday weekend. read more

I am sorry to give this review but the quality of Carson's food has been on the decline and tonight was the worst. Yes, the view is incredible (this two stars and not one) but my Trout was way over cooked and was presented on soggy greens absolutely swimming in a warm vinaigrette. Something I would expect at Denny's or Sheri's...not here. We come here often and for the past year we have seen prices rise and quality decline at Carson's Kitchen. From now on we will stick with Sunriver Brewing or just about any other place in Bend. read more

Frank provided such adept and professional service that I returned for a second night. The food was beautifully presented and prepared, but I wanted all that and more. I'm working hard at a conference here, and I wanted to be both well-fed and catered to. Mission accomplished! A single woman eating alone doesn't always garner excellent treatment, so Frank's efforts deserve mention. Everyone he waited on received similar great service. We were in Sunriver for a conference (about 20 people for dinner). Service was good, food was okay but nothing to write home about.

Our rating is a rough average of 3 meals experienced at Carson's--two breakfasts and one dinner. We purchased the Breakfast package at the resort (thus the two all inclusive breakfasts for each morning at the resort) and made reservations for dinner in early celebration of our anniversary. What Carson's has going for it is the friendly, personable hostesses and wait staff, the exploration and attempt of original yet local flavors, menu selection during both meal hours and the view from almost any location in the restaurant. Where Carson's fell a bit flat was the execution of the meals (particularly dinner) and the resulting disparity of expectations with Carson's pricing. Breakfast was average relative to what we selected: my husband tried the Brioche French Toast and Three Sisters (pancakes, ham and eggs); I had the Sage Springs Omelette and Fried Egg Sandwich. I did particularly enjoy the Fried Egg Sandwich--it was quite hardy with the pork belly bacon, bacon aioli and White Cheddar. We probably could have shared the sandwich between the two of us. Our dinner is where we had higher expectations--particularly the pricing and being a primary dining experience at the resort. I ordered the Smoked and Roasted Pork Chop and my husband ordered the Braised Beef Crepinette. My crispy Brussels sprouts were taken beyond the point of crispy and were mostly bitter (a few were edible...thankfully there were enough on the plate to dig through). The pork chop was toothsome with limited flavor; the apple parsnip purée and peach mustard sauce helped make up for the work put into chewing the pork. My husband's braised beef, as he describes, was "good" and worthy of ordering again--I'm not familiar with what to expect from a Crepinette other than it is a "package" of meat, in this case beef (for anyone who is texture sensitive, I would avoid this dish). For dessert, I sought advice from our waitress, thusly ordered the Carrot Cake. To me, this was the star of the evening, the mascarpone mixed with the moist and subtle sweetness of the cake was perfect. My husband, who does not like carrot cake, would not leave it alone. I do feel the dessert and our sweet waitress made up for my disappointment in my dinner meal. Overall, we may not return for dinner, simply due to the expectation of nearly flawless execution of what seems to be great meal ideas relative to the price paid and the 50/50 chance of being disappointed. read more

The first server, from some town south of Salem, sensed greener pastures at her other tables I assume and never returned, leaving a kind, but clearly stretched server (probably much newer) to fend for herself. This used to be my absolute favorite place on the planet to eat; my happy place. My only complaint about Carson's is that the service has never been that great. They typically seem very understaffed and it takes a long time to get seated, your order taken, anything you might need...etc. But growing up in Sunriver, I always tolerated that part just because I love the atmosphere of the lodge and the memories I have there. About three weeks ago my mother was in town visiting, so we decided to treat ourselves to breakfast at Carson's. I haven't been there in a few months and was really looking forward to it. I usually go into great detail about my experience, but I will keep this one short. I was appalled at the price increase and the service was just as poor as it always has been. I understand that Sunriver is not exactly inexpensive, but $20 for a breakfast burrito? Seriously? Breakfast here used to be affordable, and was something we were able to do once or twice a month. Not anymore. A breakfast that cost us $50 six or so months ago, now cost us over $80. What? When a restaurant jacks up it's prices that much, it feels to me like they are purposely excluding the average income customer. This particular visit was the very sad end of 30 years of being a loyal customer at this establishment for me. I won't be back. read more

Okay, so I'm a little on the fence with this place. The food was good. We went for breakfast and I think everyone was very pleased. The coffee was a little weak, but not bad. Breakfast potatoes were inexplicably spicy, like someone dumped an entire bottle of cayenne in the mix that morning. I dig spicy food a lot, but these were crazy hot, sorta wrong for breakfast, and my wife and kids couldn't handle it. The French toast looked pretty plain but my six year old didn't complain. Service was attentive at times, painfully slow at others. To their credit, we were there the week after Portland public schools had Spring Break, so Sunriver was a little dead, but it almost seemed like they weren't expecting any business at all, and the place ended up getting pretty full, so I think they were overwhelmed. I would return, but my expectations for next time would be a bit higher, for the price point and the fancy ambience. read more

Went here for both lunch and dinner while staying at the Sunriver Resort with my family. The atmosphere was friendly and inviting. The views from the restaurant were amazing. The lunch food was good and the server was friendly. The dinner menu was also good but a bit pricey. This wasn't a surprise though as resort restaurants are usually a little more expensive. The quality of the food and ingredients was very good. The best part of our dinner however was having the pleasure of being served by our waitress Sue. I would have to say that she was AWESOME!!! She was extremely kind, friendly, attentive, funny, and just a great person overall. She really made our night! I can't say enough how impressed we were by her hospitality.
