Had an old lock (at least 50 yrs old) that was malfunctioning. Choice of fixing it, buy something similar (very expensive) or getting a modern lock. They don't make locks like it anymore. Would have to drill a new set of holes to put in a new lock (and fill-in the old holes) which was an option of last resort. The people at lock world was able to repair my old lock in under 2 hours. Our 2017 Subaru Forester needed a new key fob so we ordered it on-line through KeylessEntryRemote Inc of Omaha, NE. They sell factory refurbish key fobs. They even recommend certain locksmiths and one was Lock World. This afternoon we took our car to have a new key and programming. It was $10 for the key and $65 for the programming. They do not guarantee the programming as many refurbish fobs are just junk. They said it would take an hour and we went off to lunch. Afterwards, the key and the programming worked perfectly. I called them and asked them the price of rekeying 10 locks. They said it was $30/lock plus $65 house call. I asked them to come and rekey. The technician was very nice and did his job. I asked the technician how much the bill was. He told me the fee was over $1100. I told him what I was quoted. He talked to his manager and the technician told me that his manager had told him that I needed to be charged $120/hr for labor. I told the manager that i was not told about the hourly charge on the phon. He got very aggressive with me. He threatened to take all the keys at which point I told him that I would take him to court. He backed down and I agreed to pay $600 to end the argument. Needless to say I would not work with them again. Update: The supervisore called me and asked me what he could do to address this bad interaction which I would contribute to Friday afternoon fatigue. Used to be my go-to place for all things lock-related way back in the day when I lived in the neighborhood, but they've really gone downhill. There's no longer any semblance of a showroom on Blake--just an open garage off Geary with a van sitting in it while idling for no apparent reason other than to give anyone who dares approach carbon monoxide poisoning. The workstations were all quite clean so I don't want to denigrate their locksmithing services in any way having not used them recently, but if you want to purchase a lockset, they now seem to have very little inventory on hand, don't want to show it to you, can't tell you how much it costs, begrudgingly bring out the wrong thing and tell you "it looks exactly like the one you want" when it very clearly does not and are just generally disinterested in doing anything to earn your business whatsoever. Indeed, they seem more keen in making you stand there inhaling the exhaust from their van until you die than in finding the lock you're asking for. I stood there as long as I could waiting for the sleepy guy to figure his shit out, but in the end he wanted $250 plus tax for a grade 2 lever I'd have to special order and come back to pick up whenever they got around to calling me when I know for a fact that I can get the grade 1 version for around $290 online, so that's what I did after I left before passing out from the fumes. Very disappointed to see a respectable local business degrade this severely and very glad I don't live in the neighborhood anymore. Hopefully they're still fine at the mobile services thing, but I definitely wouldn't suggest that anyone shop here. read more

It took me several days of research until I found someone who could do a car key copy for my Mini Cooper 2003. I was just interested in a copy of the blade and still took me a while to find a place where they can do that. These keys need to be laser cut and only a few places can do it. I emailed LockWorld and they kept me posted until the right key model arrived. Once they received it I went to their shop and in less than 15 minutes I got a functional copy to open my car doors and for less than $50. my complex expensive Nova Lock broken cause of my key was broken and the broken part of my key was inside the lock. I had been looking to buy a new lock cost me a few hundreds dollars in big key supplies and online but all of them are selling the lock I have been using for my apartment. I had spent a few days to kee searching and tried all possible things I could. Finally I had found one big supply all kinds of locks, but they said they only sell locks for locksmiths, not me. No matter I tried to explain. if I called a locksmith to come to my house to fix my lock and a locksmith said he would charge me $190 & $120 per hour & $500 for a new lock. it seems too much for me. Succeeded where others failed. Had niche parts in stock. Quick service, reasonable pricing. Came to them with an off-brand remote head key blank for my 2015 Ford Transit + a genuine Ford remote head key. They had no problem cutting the blank based on the genuine Ford key, and it worked perfectly. Note that several other locksmiths either a.) refused to work on a customer-provided blank, b.) didn't have the equipment to cut this particular key style, or c.) claimed the off-brand cheap key blank was "too big". Lock World did it without any issue. Their fee for cutting onto a customer-provided blank was $35. I got the remote head blank off the internet for $32. Total cost for a perfectly working remote head key: $67. The Ford dealership wanted $185. Another locksmith who refused to work on the blank I provided also quoted me $185 to order a genuine one from Ford and cut it there. While I was there, I picked up two additional keys (without the remote head). These were $45 each, including cutting. So, $10 for the part, $35 for the cutting labor. These blanks are for sale on the Internet for $10, so Lock World's price was right in line with what I expected. If only they had the remote head key blanks in stock, I could have skipped the Internet ordering process altogether. Two other "automotive" locksmiths in SF didn't have any key blanks in stock for this model. All around pleasant experience, and huge savings over going the dealer or "genuine" route. read more

I have been working on old porches for over 40 years. It seems that over time, old vendors close, retire, or move on with life. Last July, a 1965, 356 Porsche, came in with a repair list. One item on the list was a shift lock, not working. The problem was no keys. We removed the lock and got it ready to ship out. The places that we used to use their business phone numbers not working, on the east coast or some wanted to cut the lock, not an option. I started a new search to find a local bay area company to to the job. I dropped the lock off in a place in Berkeley. They were willing to rekey. Everyone in the shop tried. but NO LUCK. I understand this is a German two row round pin lock not your run of the mill Yale lock, so I understood their challenge. The keys for my apartment doors were worn out, and didn't work very well. I tried making copies from one of those kiosks in a hardware store and the copies didn't work at all. I figured that the next step was to take my keys to an actual professional. Professional is exactly what I got at Lock World. The guy behind the counter looked at my keys, and asked some questions like if I had to pull the key back slightly to get it to turn in the lock (yes I did). He was able to cut a new key based on what it my key probably looked like before it wore out. There was one ridge where he couldn't tell what size it originally was, so he cut me two different keys for the price of one in order to make sure I had the right fit. I took they keys home, and to my dismay they nearly got stuck in the lock when I tried them. I was busy so it was 3 weeks before I was able to make it back to Key World, but when I came back the guy behind the counter remembered me. I told him my situation and he asked some more troubleshooting questions, and determined that the blank keys he had used were just slightly too thick for my lock.
