Our first restaurant when visiting Fairhope. It was priced right along with good service. My husband enjoyed creating his own lamb burger by choosing from a variety of toppings, cheeses and breads. I took the easy route and choose combo 3, then my meat: bison and focaccia bread. He won as the lamb was moist. My husband and I ate there when we were in town house hunting. My experience wasn't good at all. It took forever for someone to wait on us, and once they finally did, it took forever to get our food. I told them well done on my burger. It was more of a medium, almost rare. I was starving and we wee in a hurry for our next appointment, so I ate around the edges that seemed done. The fries were greasy and tasted like they had been sitting there and they just dumped them back into the grease to reheat them. They never came back to even check on us or refill our drinks. We had to ask someone else for our check. I was hoping for a better experience because I love small quaint places like that, but I don't think I'll ever go back even now that I live in Fairhope. read more

I give this place four stars and not five for really only two reasons. A bit pricey and they don't have a bathroom. We both got the veggie burger (but I considered the wild boar since they do a daily selection of wild game). My wife got it on a salad ($3 up charge) and I got it on foccatia since they were out of wheat. Sauce was free but toppings are each $0.85 and cheese is $1.25 but it is local cheese so atleast you know you are paying for something special. The waiter was very courteous, attentive, and helpful and the chef even asked how the meal was and it was excellent! The veggie burger patty may have been hand made after we ordered it. All ingredients seemed fresh and crisp and tasted delicious! The sides were extra too (I don't agree with that, every burger should come with a side!) so I didn't appreciate paying extra for that. I got the mixed veggies, they were fresh as well but the oil or vinegar they used was a little over bearing, I smelled it first when he brought the plates out. But it tasted fine, just wish it had more spice and less of the oily vinegar taste. We will return for sure and even want to try their breakfast menu. But I'll be sure to use the bathroom beforehand or hold it... (I hope they end up working a bathroom into that building at some point!) They have a BYOB policy so bring your beer! (but realize the problem that creates with no bathroom....) read more

This small restaurant is a gem. The waitress could not have been more helpful. They specialize in dishes and food made with local products. A sign posted in the front of the restaurant advertised for breakfast, "the best shrimp and grits anywhere." Indeed, at the end of a two week road trip through the South, and after sampling many versions of shrimp and grits (Charleston, Savannah and even Commanders in New Orleans, Charleston, etc.) this was the very best version!! read more

First of all, the food was delicious. When we go on vacations we like to look around for local fare. Locals was about an hour or so drive from where we were staying, but it was so worth the drive. This is a hidden gem in Fairhope. Instead of having a zillion items on menu it is very simple and all done perfectly. I have eaten shrimp and grits all over the south but nowhere better than here. Note this is a BYOB place so grab your wine or beer on the way. Red and White is a block and a half away and also highly recommended. read more

Michelle was our server and she was exceptional in helping us decide and making suggestions. I got the Wade's Lamb with Bacon and it was phenomenal. My wife got the chicken sandwich and my mom-in-law got the grass fed beef. The mash potato were obviously made from scratch and the only way to make them. We all got focaccia bread and it was fluffy and delicious. I also got the seafood bisque and it was divine. If we make it back to Fairhope we will be stopping in again. I would recommend for anyone who has not experienced "Locals" to make it their next stop. Those behind the curtain obviously pay attention to more than just fresh ingredients. Their dishes will surprise you. I was presented with the multilayered Lar's pork entree on my first visit and almost felt guilty for destroying a work of art. After returning on two other occasions, I have enjoyed everything that I have tried thus far. Saving the best for last, I simply would like to say that the service is friendly, helpful and always prompt... which has constantly made my experience at Local's something to remember. This little spot is great. They have a smaller menu but it still has plenty of different options from wild game to tasty veggie choices. The owners and staff are friendly and remember you when you come in. It is byob which is nice when you are looking to drink your favorite drink and save a little cash. This spot is amazing for brunch, lunch, and dinner. The only drawbacks are that it can get a little noisy (bothersome for the older crowd sometimes) and that it doesn't have a bathroom. I personally don't find this to be a problem especially if you are prepared before you stop by. I would recommend this spot to anyone and have taken a number of different people visiting the area. read more

Had breakfast here. A lot of made from scratch items here, which I really appreciated. Coffee cups are huge which is a small but thoughtful offering from the restaurant that I personally appreciated. Focaccia toast and the Gouda grits deserve recognition, while everything else was standard breakfast fare. Not pricey, but not cheap. Would love to try it out at lunch next time I'm in town. Stopped in for some eggs Benedict sadly there legendary hollandaise sauce is only available on Saturdays. We stumbled across Locals mid-afternoon on a Friday when no one in our party of three needed food but two needed to use the "facilities." They were very accommodating and had a great sense of humor as well. We promised to come back. I'm guessing they considered the odds to be slim but sent us on our way with a smile and "see you later then." On Saturday we did come back. A lot of personality and a touch of kindness will have that effect. I am glad we did. The personality was intact well into the lunch hour rush and the food was excellent. Most of the ingredients for the anything but typical burger menu (it includes beef, bison, lamb, and even kangaroo) are harvested from local suppliers. Hence the name, Locals. The burger buns were actually fresh baked breads, desert was melt in your mouth to be savored not consumed delicious, and even the coffee was good. I have been to this restaurant several times and they do have good food. The burgers, the the shrimp and grits, and the deserts are good, but there are a number of other restaurants with equal menu items. I have another reason for never going back to this place. My wife and I were waiting in line on a busy night and and we asked for table for three (our daughter was about three minutes behind.) A table for two was available and we asked the hostess if we could add a third chair and she affirmed it would be okay. A gentleman sitting by himself offered his extra chair so I put it at our table. My wife sat down, and another lady came and said that the third chair would have to be removed since it was blocking a fire lane. (We did not know). My wife said that the first lady (we presumed was the hostess) told us it was okay. My wife is one of the most soft spoken people I have ever known. The lady fired back at my wife and said "she is not in charge, I am". "Where is the third person." We told her that she was a couple of minutes from being here. The lady said that she couldn't seat us until she got to the restaurant. It would have been nice to have been told this from the beginning. We left and enjoyed a great meal elsewhere.
