The outdoor open patio at Woody's was full, so we opted for pizza. There was a large party in the and a couple of people sitting at the bar, but we had plenty of open table area around us. We started out with a meatball (local ball $11). This Texan wasn't impressed, but my Italian friend from Jersey loves it, so it must be good, lol. I had the monkey pizza, which was pretty good. First, it was Madison who made our experience an exceptional one. Her bubbly personality and her pure joy for her job, her customers and just serving people really came through. Second, the food was awesome! My hubby and I enjoyed two starters, fried mozzarella, buffalo chicken dip and then we built our own pie. What was great about this part is we didn't know it was "happy hour" because it was our 1st time here. (We just relocated from Daytona Beach.) It was Madison who let us know and gave us her recommendations. My husband and I have worked in hospitality and Madison is a true asset to this restaurant. She should work every Friday and should always be behind that bar. She was working her butt off. Oh, and if you want to know more about the food, though we could not eat it all, and brought half home, it did not disappoint. It was so fresh, and better than we have had in a while. Lastly, total shock was the cost, we have been right next door and it was double the cost, but keep in mind we did come to Local Pie by accident during happy hour. We went there for my son's 13th birthday last night because he loved their margharita pizza so much. We had 13 people in our party on a Saturday night so we were concerned about any restaurant being able to accommodate us . They put us in a private room upstairs with plenty of room to spread out. Our waitress Taylor ,was so sweet and she even brought my son a special dessert for his bday and sang happy birthday to him with us! The food was great- best Buffalo wings we have ever had! What a nice little pizza shop in cute downtown Bluffton. With so many choices around, we were really craving pizza so we ended up here. We ordered their specialty pizza of the day, which had a ton of veggies on it. It was good but not spectacular - I think we just weren't big on having potatoes on our pizza tbh. Kinda a wild choice of topping. We also had the garlic bread (yum!) and the wings (also yum!) with their bbq sauce, which has a mustard base. I would normally hate that because mustard makes me gag but there's soooo much extra flavor to these wings I didn't mind. I mostly ate those. Our waitress wasn't the most attentive because she doubled as the bartender and spent a lot of time talking with a VERY loud group of people at the bar who I assume must have been regulars because she was very familiar with them. My wife and I shared a calzone on a Sunday afternoon recently. The kitchen helpfully cut the calzone in half for us and placed the halves on separate plates for us. Unfortunately, the meat inside the calzone was cold; not tepid, not cool, but cold. We declined the initial offer just to heat it up because the outside was heavily charred. We like heavily charred, but heating it further would have rendered it burned. The new calzone was better but the meat this time was just barely warmed. We received the calzone directly from the oven. The chef explained to us that the wood-fired oven was too hot and therefore threatened to burn the outer layers whilst leaving the inside cold. I get it but it's the restaurant and not the customer who should 1) recognize the problem and, 2) do something about it. If they could jot properly cook our calzone, they should have steered us toward something that would cook well and evenly in their wood-fired oven. Despite the temperature of the meat, the calzone was tasty. I'd love to try again when the oven is at the proper temperature to cook a calzone. My only quibble with the taste -- it could have used a little more ricotta. The staff was nice about the situation and gave us an unsolicited discount for the trouble. I appreciate their candor and their taking responsibility for it and (hopefully I suppose) not marking us as unreasonable guests. I do not send food back lightly. It ultimately screws up the meal when the other guest's food is fine. But I think it was appropriate in this instance. Will we return to try it again? Probably not unless they post a sign saying, "Oven regulated to make a proper and evenly cooked calzones." With dozens of nearby alternatives, I would not put myself in a position to be disappointed once again. read more

We had heard the pizza is great at Local Pie, and the rumor mill is 100% correct. My wide ordered the 10" white pizza, also called The Monkey. I ordered the 10" Little Bear which had mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, sausage, and meatballs. We loved them. And for the first time in quite a while we couldn't finish the ample servings and took home some great leftovers for later on in the day. The waitress was excellent, and kept our sodas filled. I'll keep this short and quick unlike their service. Waited a long time for our food, got fed up waiting, paid the bill and left. Terrible service. When we complained to the lady (not sure what her role was but she had the phone clipped to her and was upfront) and not one of the employees reported the issue to management. The lady did not know how to handle the situation at all. Literally a deer in headlights reaction to our dissatisfaction and complaints. As we were leaving one of the cooks said "we don't need your business" to my aunt when she informed them of the bad service we received tonight. I heard a lot of good things about Local Pie so I thought I'd check it out. I ordered the Buffalo Bacon Pie. I was so disappointed. It was apparent that it was made haphazardly. Trying to review a pizza place fairly is impossible, because it is so subjective. New Yorker's don't like Chicago Style. Coal fired enthusiast don't like wood fired. The Margarita purist don't like the pineapple pizza and on and on. That being said, I'll give you my thoughts on the Pizza at Local Pie. We tried 2 pizzas, the Little Bear (tomato sauce, pepperoni, sausage and sliced meatball) and the Mr. Mittake (garlic spread base, blistered tomatoes, shiitake mushrooms, shaved onion, mozzarella, truffle oil). I will start with the crust, both pizza crusts were very good and baked just right (not burnt or over cooked), probably one of the best crusts I've had in South Carolina. This crust is very similar in style to a Naples, Italy crust (the Naples crust has bigger air bubbles and their flour has a different texture). The pizza toppings on the Little Bear were very salty and the sausage was bland. The Mr. Mittake definitely had the better toppings. The blistered tomatoes were very tasty and complimented the mushrooms and truffle oil. Speaking of the truffle oil, I think they could really enhance this pizza if they spread the oil out towards the edge of the crust (the toppings and truffle oil stopped about 2 inches, from the crust). We had no wait on a Saturday evening and they offer indoor/outdoor seating. The service was good, the prices were really good and it's worth the trip just to try the crust. read more

Had not had a decent slice of pizza since we got here six seeks ago. Figured this was another lost cause - but was pleasantly surprised. Although it's tucked in the tourist section of Bluffton, got a table without much fuss and really enjoyed the food. Service was good, but my one pet peeve: Luke cool beer. Disgusting!!! Had I known I needed to ask for shredded cheese I would have! I did specifically ask for HALF grilled onions and they definitely dumped onions all over it. The crust was burnt and the bottom soggy. Sauce is store bought tasting. The Cinna bites were over cooked and super chewy. Best thing we got was caramel sauce! So glad I don't ever have to order from here again. Leaving early tomorrow morning and they were closing when we got there so we couldn't call to complain. I am throughly impressed! A party of 6 of us from New York really enjoyed this meal! The pizza is thin and well done; just how we like it. They make the pizza fresh and it came out quick! We ordered a bottle of wine because vacation ... wine not?! And the selection of wines were pretty good, the only thing is that the glasses were freshly washed, normally a great thing but the scent of the soap was rough and kind of ruined the taste of the yummy wine ! Other than that, we really enjoyed our meal, the beer selection was good too and we had the aloha beaches pineapple beer and it was delicious ! If you're a fan of New York style pizza or Trenton tomato pies, you know finding something like that in Lowcountry could be challenging. We've tried most pizza places in the Bluffton and Hilton Head area and have only found a couple which even come close. While I've had Local Pie slices at some of the street festivals, I never had a pie from their downtown location. For Mother's Day, we decided to get some pies. I even had a discount card from one of the festivals which we used to call in the order. Unfortunately my wife called the Hilton Head location and not the one in Bluffton. We ordered a large onion and large mushroom pie--- thin and standard crust. They also offer Sicilian style and thicker crust pizza. When we arrived in Bluffton to pick up the pies, there was obviously a disconnect. The girl at the shop immediately called over to the Hilton Head store to cancel and rushed to make our pies---- brick oven can be very fast and handy. The crust is very tasty as well as the sauce, cheese and toppings. Although the crust could be a tad crispier. With South Carolina opening again from the pandemic, there were many people sitting outside eating. They offered a very clean and sanitary environment offering sanitizer and wiping down tables feverishly. The folks there were busy and very attentive. Great service. read more
