An update from last visit. I was there with several friends for lunch on a Tuesday late morning. At the suggestion of one of my friends, I ordered the Trigger Fish Melt. Our server was Avery who was great at handling 6 old guys. One of my buddies asked for Swiss cheese on his melt and was told they didn't have any. Then Avery said "I might be lying" suggesting she didn't really know since she works mostly at the other Capt Woody's location on HHI. Mine came with American cheese and was delicious. I would have ordered it with Swiss as well if I knew they had it (which they did). The place was quite busy. For ambiance, we saw 2 delivery trucks which provided some loud background noise and blocked our view of downtown Bluffton. Other than that, it was great!! read more

Disappointing lunch. Flavorless low quality food. Soggy undercooked wings, tasteless burger, mediocre chicken sandwich and greasy undercooked onion rings. Grouper sandwich was ok but also lacked flavor. French fries were the best part of the meal. Server was adequate but failed to ask if everything was ok. Generally speaking, most of the Restaurants in old Towne Bluffton are good. Captain Woody's is in line with that assessment . Good value for the quality as well as the portion sizes. Service is very friendly and accommodating. I had the fried flounder which was served lightly fried for a sandwich and broiled for my wife's platter. Appears that good flounder is harder and harder to find, but I believe here it is on their regular menu. Definitely coming here again on our next visit to Bluffton. read more

8-17-24 Late Lunch Let's cut to the chase this place I had bookmarked and it had many reviews so I thought it would have been a winner. Sadly it was not and joins the group of one and done. We parked very close by and once inside waited for the hostess. She appeared in a matter of seconds and asked if we wanted to sit inside or outside. Since we could see from the outside it was screened in we chose outside. Unfortunately with lack of air movement it was warm and the smell of fried fish hung in the air. After we ordered our drinks I ordered a Moscow Mule as none of their specialty drinks sounded too interesting to get. Hubby got a Miller Lite in the bottle. After reviewing the menu he noticed a lack of non seafood items. I told hubby we could go after we get our drinks but he insisted we stay. So he chose fried pickles for us to share and a burger that said 8 ounces but was really 3 ounces after cooking which came over cooked without condiments requests ie mayonnaise. Due to the late hour he just grinned and beared it. The fried pickles were ok I have had them before at other restaurants. They give you a generous amount as we didn't finish them. I ordered the Fried Flounder platter. Note you can only get fried I asked, or grilled not broiled. It came two big pieces of fish on top of French fries and two hush puppies. Flounder has always been my favorite fish this dish was ok nothing memorable about it. I think if it was broiled in butter it would have enhanced the flavor more as I really didn't quite get the flavor this way nor did the hush puppies. My drink the Moscow Mule was meh and so was the flounder platter. Disappointingly so therefore we won't be back. It's not like they could have made it better other than air circulation, cleaner table, ketchup bottle full ours was empty but the fries looked lackluster so I skipped. One and done. read more

What a great place to go to get awesome service and delicious food! We were greeted and seated very quickly. We came in for lunch and we were looking for some delicious seafood. Our waitress was kind, attentive and friendly! We ordered hushpuppies for appetizer and they were delicious and big! For our entree's we ordered grilled shrimp with green beans and fried shrimp with fries, coleslaw and hushpuppies. The grilled shrimp entree also came with red potatoes but I did not want potatoes, so she offered to give me extra green beans which was so great! The inside has many tables, the outside is covered and filled with many tables as well and they also have an upstairs! The bar area is small but I feel like that is not a problem at all. I was hesitant to try their newer restaurant in old town Bluffton but what a terrific surprise! The exterior, interior and especially the cool brick arch at the hostess stand are gorgeous! There is a screened patio and a rooftop bar with a dining area. We had a very attentive waiter - I believe his name was Chris. My friends started with Gonzalez Rita (margaritas) and I had a Pineapple Express. The drinks were perfect and strong! In a world of overpriced drinks, $10 was a steal for these delicious drinks! We shared the best fried pickles - the batter was light and not a drop of grease in the basket. Perfect! My friends loved their shrimp po boy and fried flounder sandwiches. I loved the shrimp basket. Shrimp were cooked perfectly and the fries were thick and crisp. We loved our lunch and can't wait to come back for the rooftop bar! It's gorgeous upstairs and looks like a good time. read more

Great little seafood nook in old town Bluffton. Very prompt and friendly service and a feeling that you've walked in your neighborhood restaurant. Our party enjoyed hush puppies that were flavoured with red and green peppers as well as corn pieces, and served with sweet honey butter. Our dinners were very good - a freshly fried shrimp basket and also good (question if house-made?) coconut shrimp, served with sides of delicious asparagus (veg of day), fries (nice and crispy) and coleslaw (needed salt, but ok). My husband and I stopped by for an early dinner, the service was really nice and we were attended pretty quickly. It wasn't as busy when we first arrived but it slowly started to pick up afterwards. For appetizers we ordered their Onion Rings and Kickin Camarones. The Onion rings were really crispy but the camarones were my favorite. They were tossed in this sweet and spicy sauce that added to the flavor. It was so good I ordered their fish and chips which the fish was fried perfectly and it melted in my mouth as soon as I bit into it, the outside was crunchy and crispy. My husband ordered their scallops jasmine and oh my god, I may be biased since I love cheese and I love scallops but it was super rich and creamy. Though it looks much older due to the abundance of reclaimed brick and wood, Captain Woodys is only 12 years old. It uses those reclaimed materials to make a comfy, casual dining spot. We visited at 11am--a good time because closer to noon Captain Woodys began filling inside and outside in the screened-in patio. Burgers are 1/3 lb., cooked to order patties with a side. Coleslaw was creamy with a light sweetness. A turkey sandwich had juicy flavor--partly due to cooking technique and partly from the Thousand Island dressing. This place is a fun venue with something for everyone (indoor/outdoor/upstairs bar, etc.). The door at the hostess stand is quite the statement piece. The bar drinks were nice as we waited for our party to arrive (no reservations accepted). The children's menu is terrific and the kiddos were happy with their choices. Captain Woodys has set a high bar for the rest of our Christmas trip. We stopped on our way to Hiltonhead after a long day of travel. Everything was incredible right down to the tarter and coattail sauce. Our party of 5 covered the menu. We had a late lunch at Captain Woody's and sat outside in the screened-in porch. It was comfortable sitting outside even in 90 degree temperatures since they have powerful fans going - but they're not loud or disruptive at all. Service was attentive and prompt, and the menu offers a great range of options. My husband had the grilled chicken sandwich with house-made chips - both were very good. Many restaurants fail with house-made chips because they leave them too greasy, but these were thick and crisp and delicious. I had the crab cakes with sautéed vegetables and potato salad. The crab cakes are HUGE - I was barely able to finish one of the two - and the potato salad was delicious. We loved everything except the sautéed vegetables, which were a little too oily. I've always been a fan of Captain Woodies from their first location to their second location on HHI. Loved that they opened one in Bluffton! Even with the changes of price increasing and sometimes smaller serving size, it's still a go to for us and to introduce new "locals" and "vistors". There are only a couple of disappointments now with the Bluffton location. The tables outside aren't cleaned very well and the cushions should be replace yucky. The hall leading to and including the restrooms need updating and cleaned regularly. One hint.. avoid the patio when delivery trucks park next to it and from there the other restaurants.
