Waitstaff nice, but inattentive; took our order, brought our food, and never asked if we needed anything or how we were doing. Table next to us asked about ice cream, and was told she had to go inside to see the flavors available. Ordered half a ham and cheese on sourdough and cup of chowder. Bread was cheap white bread masquerading as sourdough, hint of mayo, one deli slice of ham, a skinny slice of cheese, tomato slice and a lettuce leaf. Reminded me of a school lunch sandwich. Chowder was lukewarm, nice flavor, but a bit gritty. $20 seemed excessive. Wife ordered the tuna on wheat, same bread, just darker; kinda of wheat-ish. Tuna and mayo with lettuce and some pickle slices. Best thing about her meal were the fries. Maybe some good, dense sourdough and some rustic wheat bread would have improved both 100%, but for the prices I would definitely not recommend stopping here. Really disappointed. read more

This place looks absolutely darling, like a picturesque beach cafe with warm wood & lots of windows. The food isn't anything to write home about, but it's decent enough. We ordered a coffee to go, though, and that became a bit of a concern. Their steamer is incredibly noisy and clearly needs some TLC. You could hear it from across the restaurant. The coffee tasted extremely burnt. It was such a lovely, quiet day that we decided not to fuss about the coffee and just pay with a smile on our faces. The waitress, who was fairly short with us all along, handed us the mobile card scanner with a smile on her face, waited for us to press the tip button, then immediately dropped her smile & made a snide comment! I was shocked, but that is not how someone working in hospitality should be treating customers. We left, tossed the coffee in the nearest trash can, and got another one down the road from a different establishment with friendlier folks. The tipping prompt at checkout for to-go orders. This isn't on the employees at all -- they're great -- but whoever set up the system (looking at you, management) should reconsider. Service: It was not even a full restaurant or heavy traffic yet they forgot our utensils until we asked for some, and they did not check in with us mid-meal to see how things were going. They did not offer to clean our table of empty plates so we had space to eat other dishes. Food: Mediocre and some of the flavor combinations did not balance well that our party wanted to spit out some of the sauce or soup base.. We recommend others order things that are hard to mess up by their cooks. Price: Way over priced for the portion of food/quality and lack of attentive service. Feels like they upcharged for the tourism as it is close to the beach access. We did not like how we felt rushed to pay or tip then get out. The server hover over us as we were paying on their mobile device. Our party all suggested to get them less tip since they did not like the overall experience. Randomly picked this restaurant among many in Cannon Beach. They have both patio and inside seating. We chose outdoors, right off the street. We were very happy with the experience and found nothing to complain about. The highlights: The warm seafood salad (see pic). Lots of perfectly cooked seafood in a bed of lettuce. The scallops were the best part. I had the chicken salad sandwich and chowder combo to check out the soup and save room for dessert. The sandwich was very good and the chowder, excellent. I hate starchy overly- thick chowder and this had the perfect consistency. Lots of flavor and a great mix of potatoes and clams. Two in our group had the shrimp fettuccini which they enjoyed. One said the portion wasn't large enough, but he's a growing teen so there's never enough food. The pasta came with a side of toasted bread. For dessert we had the Marion berry pie and an Americano. Great combo. Nice that they served espresso and not just drip coffee. Only food drawback was the limited draft beer selection. All Pilsners and IPAs due to it being spring time. I had a bottled Black Butte porter that tasted almost as good as a draft. The service was excellent and the food came quickly. This place is very dog friendly and the bathrooms are very clean. This WAS our go to place for breakfast when visiting Cannon Beach. Not going here anymore. We have 2 small dogs, contained in packs. We sat on the patio the day before and sat the dogs on chairs next to us in their packs - didn't have any issues. The following day we went for breakfast again, only to be told by the young waitress that we couldn't set the dogs (in their packs) on the chairs. We told her we had just done this the day before. Stopped in for brunch on a sunny day and sat outside on the nice patio . Our server was not very friendly but brought us everything we needed. I ordered the crab eggs Benedict and halfway through my first one, I found a long, black hair underneath the English muffin. One of the busboys took my plate away and the server came back with a receipt and informed me that she credited half my breakfast . I asked if I was getting another plate as I was still hungry . She took the receipt, crumpled it up and walked away mad. Never offered a replacement or an apology. I was shocked at her lack of manners and her rudeness. A sweet little ice cream sandwich shop with a creative menu. The chowder fries and bacon was a fun snack. I think I liked the cup of chowder better. There are lots of ice cream flavors available and they have a good selection of pastries for dessert too. I would certainly visit again, and recommend others to try too. read more

Unfortunately we didn't have the best experience at Local Grill & Scoop. After walking by a bunch of outdoor seating, we thought it would be a great place to stop for lunch. We asked if we could sit outside and were abruptly (and a bit rudely) seated at the table right next to the door (and the only table without an umbrella on the entire patio). It felt like a weird choice when there were many other tables available. Considering the sun was out and shining directly in our eyes, we asked our server if we could move when she came out. She was not the one who sat us and seemed a bit confused but didn't object. We moved to another table next to the one we were originally at and shrugged it off. We ordered the tuna melt and the chicken fingers. Our food was ready quickly so we dug in. The fries were pretty good, but unfortunately that was the only redeeming factor of either of our meals. The chicken tenders were not good quality. The tuna melt was pretty bland and the bread although toasted/grilled was a bit soggy. I also found a hair that I'm 99% sure was not mine in the second half, so I called it quits. We paid quickly and our server was nice enough once we ordered but overall it was a very underwhelming experience. I know that Cannon Beach is a bit of a tourist area so prices are higher but we didn't expect anything fancy and were still let down. I would try another establishment if I ever return. read more

Seafood and local fare for everyone! The ambiance of Local Grill and Scoop is welcoming, and charming, and the staff is quite nice, too. Whether you choose to sit inside or outside, ample seating is normally available to keep wait times to a minimum. We were fortunate to be seated for brunch just after noon on July 5th. The menu is a perfect moderate size, with decent sandwich, burger, salad, and seafood options. We were able to make decisions quickly, but since it was a holiday week, service was slow (which was fine since we expected this), so we read our books and enjoyed the people-watching. Once our drinks and food arrived, I was glad to see a good portion of seafood in the salad, since many other local spots may avoid adding more seafood. The coffee was not great, and was quite watered down... probably a one-time error that was quickly fixed with a reorder and ice added for the increased temperature. Once we ended our meals, the lines were getting quite long for seating, so we did our best to depart promptly after finishing a few chapters of reading before heading to the beach. Parking can be a challenge, especially on busy weekends or holidays. It will be rare for street parking to be available, so parking further away or choosing to park in one of the public lots nearby is a good idea. read more

I had the tuna melt sandwich which was the best one I've ever had. They don't under do the tuna, they add so much! The bread was wheat and seedy and the cheese was Tillamook cheddar. Very impressed. The coffee was SUPER strong which was surprising because restaurant coffee is usually weak. My dad got the fish and chips which he said was good, but pretty middle of the line. My mom got the crispy chicken salad which she said had many good components, but the ranch was most likely homemade and too buttermilk-y. Very watered down to say the least. But we got the oyster shooters, prime rib and Mediterranean seafood stew with crab legs. Oysters were delicious and very tender, I thought the cocktail sauce was a little sweet for my liking, but I think that just comes down to what you prefer. Prime rib was cooked perfect and could use a little more flavor, but all in all was prepared the way I wanted. The place was empty, and on initial impressions, the tables-chairs-menu, aesthetically, aren't particularly nice and didn't quite live up to some pretty nice woodwork at the bar and other interior. My prime rib looked over done, however it actually tasted fabulous (5/5) I had to ask for the horseradish, but it was made perfectly when they brought it out. My husband Talibut was also excellent, and my son's spaghetti was pretty decent as well, with the side garlic bread being pretty tasty. The fries were decent, typical fries. Good curb appeal but I'm not a fan. We finished dinner across the street and strolled through some gift stores. Decided to try the ice cream here. Ice cream is Tillamook brand and as expected very delicious. It was 6PM and the restaurant was empty. The four of us were literally the only people in the restaurant. Odd when every restaurant in town is packed. I used the restroom, it's been said "you can determine the quality of the restaurant by the cleanliness of the bathroom". We won't be returning. read more
