I had that with the baked potato, veggies and a house salad to start. I was surprised that the house salad was so fresh and crisp.. definitely coming back. Not sure what all the hype about this place is about. When we got there, there were maybe three other tables. We sat on the outside patio which looks really great. Very interesting, like it can be held for a reception or something. The waiter seemed very put together in the manner he spoke and professionalism. But then we asked him what his seasonal Samuel Adams was and he replied "IPA, Barrel House". It was kinda funmy though. So we went with it. First, the prices of the food are relative to any Restaurant in Paso. Our problem wasn't the way the steaks were cooked or even the wait time. It was the fact that we ordered the jalapeno poppers for $9. We got slightly burnt poppers that were definitely store bought (or vender purchased), followed was our salads we had the caesar which was super plain. Some chopped romaine, caesar dressing, parmesan cheese, and croutons. The best part was the bread and whipped butter. Next we had our entree, I had the sample platter with the 5 oz. Tri tip, 3 pieces of ribs, and a cycle in breast. All entrees are served with your choice of potatoes (steak fries or baked potato) or rice, and vegetables. I chose the steak fries which are probably the safe choice. The vegetables come straight from those frozen mixed vegetable bags. Super bland and just boiled. Totally not worth the price. The tri tip was cooked perfectly to medium rare, the ribs were kinda dry but I guess they fell off the bone, and the chicken breast.... Just your frozen boneless ones you can get in the 10 pound bags. But I guess the chicken breast was still juicy, so that's a plus. Then there's my boyfriend's peppered rib eye. He had the baked potato which looked like it was microwaved!!! Can't stand microwaved food. Besides that, the steak was cooked perfect, but everything just seems half assed. Had the worst experience ever. We walked in to join our friends. Sat at the table for twenty minutes before anyone even came to serve us. Never even got a menu. This was our first time. We've heard about the restaurant and since we were in the area thought we would drive by and check it out. The menu looked yummy and so we decided to stay. The staff was very friendly and the restaurant was clean and comfortable. I ordered the Ortega burger because even though the steaks sounded amazing, we weren't really prepared to go that route...this time. The burger was really good. It had a smoked flavor to it with a chipotle dressing. My husband ordered the French dip. He said the meat was very tender and ate every bit. We were also served a homemade bread and butter when we first sat down. The sandwiches also came with fries and salad. Super happy with our dinner. Lot's of good reviews so we decided to take the 50 minute drive out to give it a try. Beef Dip Sandwich had the most tender beef ever.....but the flavor of the au jus wasn't there at all, so the sandwich had no taste. Fries were the common crispy on the outside regular frozen like many other places offer (somehow expected they would have made their own). My husband had their soup, no flavor. Come here for steaks folks...they do it right! Wife had a filet, I had the ribeye, added sauteed mushrooms and onions ($3 extra). Absolutely the best! Exactly the right seasonings, perfectly done, and LARGE portions. It's casual country out in Creston; no need to dress up! Added bonus? The wine corkage fee is $7. No where cheaper! We loved it so much we returned in the morning for breakfast...How can they make eggs and bacon taste so awesome? Don't know but it was! Not only was this some of the best bacon we've ever had, but the fruit was so fresh and flavorful! (How many times have we eaten Cantaloupe that's looked good but no taste? Not here!). We have been here 2 times now and enjoyed it both times! I always enjoy places where I can take my kids and not worry about them bothering other people...and this is one of those places. The first time we sat inside and got to watch our pizzas being made, which my kids thought was pretty cool. And they were good! The 2nd time they accommodated my request to sit our larger party on the patio, for my husbands birthday. The kids ran around and played, the parents enjoyed the nice evening and good beer and wine, and the food was AMAZING. I very rarely hear my husband say his steak was great. He was happy to answer my MANY emails with questions and always responded right away...and believe me, I asked a lot of questions. We held both the ceremony and reception here and it was beautiful. They did a wonderful job setting up and everything was exactly as I had asked. My guests raved about the delicious food (they catered too, for a great price) and also the great service they received. If you like to get the wrong food and have a manager of the establishment not care about the customer The Loading Chute may be for you. I had the unfortunate experience to try and get a simple pizza to pick up from this establishment. I ordered a sausage, pineapple and bell pepper pizza via the phone. They said it would take 20 to 25 minutes. I got there to pick it up and they made a sausage, pineapple and jalapeno pepper pizza. They apologized and said they would make me a new one right away. I said that that was o.k. and as long as I needed to wait for a new pizza I ordered a prime rib dinner to go along with it. After waiting 45 minutes I asked what happened to my pizza. They said they did not put it in right away because there were other pizza orders that they received. I believe since they screwed up my pizza first they should have put mine in right away to correct their error. They did not. After waiting another 20 minutes after waiting the first 45 minutes I finally got my pizza. It was wrong again. This time there was no sausage. Instead of making another pizza correctly, they just threw some sausage on top and said that was all they were going to do. The manager on duty said if we didn't like it we could just leave without anything. Not acceptable in my book but I took it since my wife and I were starving. We had not eaten all day. I took it along with the prime rib dinner home. When I got it home and opened the pizza it turns out they screwed it up again. They added onions with the sausage when none were requested. So after 3 pizzas they still got it wrong. By the way the prime rib dinner was all fat, they did not give me the ranch dressing I ordered with the salad and there was no butter for the baked potato. Just for the managers attitude alone I will never go back there and I will never recommend this place to anyone. The food was not acceptable either since I did not get what was ordered and the meat was mostly fat. I would not take a chance on this place at all. read more
