Stumbled in to llamber because everything else was closed when we were looking for dinner at midnight on a Monday. Amazing food. Portions slightly bigger than tappas. Two people were super full after four dishes. We ordered the tomato bread (recommended by the waiter), salmon carpaccio with ginger ice cream, the tuna (amazing sauce), the octopus with mushrooms and egg which you mix into the sauce and the beef. All was AMAZING. A MUST in the born neighborhood. Loved the decor. Very inventive and modern and up cycled wood and it felt warm and cozy but still sleek and chic. Friendly staff too, amazing ! I don't even know where to start. Everything we ordered here was delicious. My favorite was the foie gras balls and these two dishes.. I can't remember what it was and my phone ran out of battery. Our meal was fantastic; one of the best I have ever had. We ordered 3 dishes: That Beef Carpacio with mustard ice cream was amazing!!! We also had a mushroom dish that was delicate ND creamy, then a potato dish that was made even better with the addition of some of the cream from the shrooms. Save room for dessert. Ours was a spectacular mix of sliced berries in a tart sauce with a cream chaser (to be sipped after every bite). Outstanding food at reasonable prices. I am used to being shocked by my check. Thoughtful presentation, good textures, and well-timed delivery of the components of the meal. I would give six stars if I could. The whole story: We ate here last night after reading the reviews. We didn't have a reservation and were seated at the bar - which turned out to be an excellent treat, as the bartender (José) was fantastic. We got the artisan bread basket (served warm, crispy outside and soft inside), cod fritters (out of this world, perfect texture and great taste), beef carpaccio (great taste, good pairing with the bread too), and charcuterie (fine, nothing special). I had a cocktail with pimms and gin, strawberry and cucumber. I believe this was a José original and it was subtly sweet, with only a hint of the taste of alcohol (but you certainly feel it when you're done!). For the main course we had angus beef and veal. Veal was served with potatoes, carmelized onions, and a sweet/savory sauce. This dish was beyond reproach. The Angus beef was fine but far outshined by the veal. Both went well with a red bottle of wine recommended by José. For dessert we had the passion for chocolate and the Catalan cream. I LOVED the Catalan cream in both taste and presentation. My husband preferred the passion for chocolate, which had a nice smokey finish that went well with the whiskey/port cocktail that José created. We are only in Barcelona for a week and had never intended to see anything twice, yet we may have to circle back to this place again, at least for a cocktail and dessert. read more

Tapas made fancy... and probably more expensive than necessary, but the food was plated up beautifully with interesting twists on the typical tapas dishes whether in shape, presentation or flavor combo. Thoughts on specific dishes: Especially tasty was the octopus rice dish with pistachio pesto and sage... rice was wayyy on the salty side but the sage was so yummy I continued eating it. Also surprisingly great was their version of traditional Catalan pan con tomate. Nice crusty seeded/hearty bread with finely chopped tomatoes (rather than just the juice of tomato rubbed in - which is what you'll find at most other restaurants). For charcuterie and cheese, definitely go with the half portions as these were already more than generous. Skip the "cod marinated in the idea of guacamole" - it's basically thinly sliced cod slipped between slices of avocado with a Bloody Mary reduction on top, side of root vegetable chips and random Tabasco gelees. Funny name but don't do like we did by ordering it for the novelty alone... unlike the other choices, it's more gimmicky than good. read more

Absolutely delicious!!!! We were disappointed with some of the food so far in Barcelona and felt like we were stuck in a tourist trap. This restaurant was the cure. It was amazing, interesting and woke up my taste buds. We had the cheese plate to start (half size) which was delicious. Two of the six cheeses were strong as someone else mentioned. But they were very interesting and the waiter gave us fair warning. We had the bread with tomato (great), the burger with foie gras (an interesting, unique taste on the American classic). We also had the pork and beans stew (amazing!). The grilled white asparagus (a special of the day) was seasoned perfectly. My desert was the special, a white chocolate foam with berries (blew my mind delicious)! Also, the service is out of this world. This was one of the best meals I have ever had, and I have eaten at Daniel, and other fine restaurants in New York. When we got to Llamber, we had to wait for a table at the bar; no problem. They served us complimentary spicy olives and our drinks were delicious. Upon being seated in the backroom next to the candlelit fireplace (I think we had the best seat in the house, no kidding), we were warmly welcomed by our waitress who was able to recommend an amazing bottle of Rioja that I'm still salivating over. Here's our review of what we ordered: (1) Cheese plate: SO good. We ordered the "large" portion and we were told it came with very stinky / intense cheeses, but we weren't deterred. Unfortunately, the last two cheese were so strong that we couldn't eat them, but the first four were amazing (2) Tomato bread: awesome, would highly recommend (3) Salmon carpaccio with ginger ice cream: sounds so weird, but was seriously one of the best things I have ever eaten! (4) Roasted vegetables: this was the one thing I would not order again; while the Romesco sauce was nice, the veggies were really nothing special (5) Sorbet + mini bundt (?) cake with hazelnut filling: OMG amazing, I wish I had one right now!!! This is an excellent place for breakfast after a tough night out on the town. Located next to El Born CC, the only thing it has against it in the morning is that it's in the shade, so it's not as nice as it could be if it was 100m away! Don't let that stop you from going there though. Half the time Barcelona is so hot you actually want to be in the shade so it's not such a bad thing. The coffee is fairly decent (though nowhere near as good as Nomad). The food is very tasty and the service is really friendly, if a little slow (this is quite normal in Barcelona as the pace of life is considerably slower in Spain than in many other countries. I'll definitely go back here next time I am in Barcelona :) read more

Service is really poor: Not paying attention to us for 20 mins in a 60% empty restaurant, wine glasses with lipstick on it, forgetting orders and cleaning the tables while we are still eating, pooring in two wines while ordering 1 and much more. This place rivals the restaurants in NYC, LA, and Chicago. Each dish was extremely well-executed and tasty. It is a bit pricier than the average restaurant in Barcelona but totally worth it. Mateo was our waiter and he was very attentive and provided recommendations on the number of orders to place to make sure we didn't order too much or too little for the number of people we had. Amazing, Amazing, Amazing! Did I mention it was amazing? We stumbled upon this neighborhood gem after attending a nearby Flamenco show. From the moment we walked in, the service was impeccable. I suffer from severe food allergies and they made sure that I could truly sample the food offerings but still be safe. I cannot tell you how rare that is. And the food - beyond expectations. From the tuna tataki to the chicken and cheese croquets to the king crab and asparagus fondue (the brought extra fondue without asking to the black pudding with squid ink rice to the outstanding prawn carpaccio special every morsel was flavorful and delicious! They took Catalan classics and added a modern and tasteful twist. This will go down as the best meal we had in Barcelona! read more

Great for dinner or just tapas & people-watching - located just outside one end of the Born Cultural Centre... Tapas - decided to stop here for a beer, got tempted by the Meat tapas and enticed by the waiter to have tomato bread to accompany this. Great choice and both dishes beautifully prepared & presented and delicious. I wanted to have a look inside at the decor and the waiters encouraged me in to have a look around & happy for me to take photos - really helpful, friendly staff & I loved the floating bottle wine rack. Dinner - having seen the innovative menu we went back a few days later for dinner & sat in the back. We had some Pica-picas (small dishes) which were fab followed by mains of Cod with onion/potato/liquorice & baby cuttlefish on black rice - both fresh, with beautifully balanced flavours & perfectly cooked. Cod and liquorice - who knew? We asked for wine recommendations from the waiter for the starter & main and were not disappointed (& they weren't the most expensive on the menu either - one was the cheapest they did). We had to have dessert now, so opted for Catalan cream foam with raspberries - super soft and light like a velouté version of berries & cream - inspired. read more

The food was pretty good but it was completely ruined by the overall dining experience. One star service. The waitress didn't come over to our table for at least 10 min after they sat us. Then she rushed through the menu and did a really bad job at explaining some of the options. The kitchen was out of many of the food specials and it was only 10pm. The staff argued in front of the customers several times and it created an awkward environment. The staff seemed overwhelmed and the working flow was all over the place. Maybe we just came on a bad night, but it was our first impression and it wasn't a very good one. We weren't even offered a complementary drink or dessert to make up for all the troubles. I would say 4.5 stars. I heard this place was busy, but I came at 6:30 on a Monday and was seated immediately. The Spanish eat late so I guess I was here on the early side, I did notice the place filled up while I was eating. I tried the salmon carpaccio, cod fritters, pan tomate, and steak with edible coals (charred sweet potato). Note that for the pictures the salmon and cod were half portions. Service was good, and everything I ate was tasty although maybe not mind blowing. The salmon carpaccio especially was interesting, as it was served with a ginger ice cream. The plate was well balanced, and was a dish that made you think a bit while eating it. I would definitely come back here to try more things on the menu. read more

Hands down favorite meal of our trip! We came here on a Friday night and had a reservation (make sure you make one because they weren't seating people without them). Everyone was SO nice and welcoming. They recommended we buy a cheaper wine than the one we'd picked out which they thought was better! (I don't know if that's ever happened to me at a restaurant). We ordered the tuna which was out of this world!! It came with black garlic sauce and had a nice soy flavor. I could have ordered another. We had the cheese and ham croquettes, as well as the mushroom dish! All were wonderful. For entrees we had the gnocchi which was the best I've ever had. Huge portion of truffle and the sauce was delicious. We also shared the grilled octopus which was fabulous. Octopus was cooked well and not tough or chewy like I've had in the past. We showed up early (by Spanish standards) and they seated us, but said they had a reservation for our table in 2 hours. Then they did not rush us at all. Delicious wine and really delicious tapas. The vibe's relaxed and cool (but not over the top), there's a fair few wines by the glass, the tapas are creatively put together and delicious (a squid and wild mushroom concoction particularly stood out). Oh, and there's a cheese plate to die for. If I had to pick fault with one thing, I'd say that one of the (very friendly) waiters had to be prompted a couple of times about bringing some bread. But it's early days, so these things should definitely be ironed out. Otherwise, loved it. read more
